  I think I'm wasting my time being involved in this, but .... The problem is the old problem, do you base your decisions in your life/mind on feelings or reason.
  

  Here's some extracts from an ABC ( the aussie one) podcast on whether such a thing as 'race' exists,' I quote it just to start a history of racism.

  I need to make one point first. There seems to be something built in to some primate animals. that regards with suspicion any group that's not your own group (more on that later) and no matter what the argued conclusions are. it does seem that most 'racist' arguments are likely based on that.feeling and not a reasoned conclusion,

  But here's the comment I wanted to post now -

  So are all you guys who arguing for a homogeneous.society/community/nation aware that's likely where your notions of 'race' started. Actually the differences you see in what you are calling 'racial groups' can better be described as, 'cultural.'

  Although some western people like to think that it's all explained in the bible ((you know, the Jewish origin myths) its hardly an explanation of what is being discussed here.,

  However, the concept of 'race' seems to have gotten a boost in the wake of European colonisation of various places in the world as (particularly the English) Europeans sought to justify what they were doing to other people. This is particularly important, because the migrations that are being complained about basically have an economic foundation,

  A clear exposition of the process may be found in John M. Hobson's* Book, :The Eastern Origins of Western Civilisation, particularly ch. 10 - Constructing European racisst identity and the invention of the world, 1700-1859: the imperial civilising mission as a moral vocation.

  During the nineteenth century, social Darwinists claimed that 'the Anglo-saxon race had a duty to take over the world' because 'the inferior races of the world were going to become extinct' (hence the use of Darwin's name) and 'progess and civilisation was safe only in the hands of the British.'

  If you attempted to chart this notion you would chart three groups of nations/race. First would be the 'Civilised' peoples of the First World ( at term still used). At the top of this group was Britain, followed by various other Western European nations Then came the Barbaric peoples, The Ottomon empire, the Chinese empire, Japan, Siam, and finally the Savage group, including African peoples etc. Much of what our contemporary western culture believes originated in that nineteenth century process.

  * John Montagu Hobson, is a political scientist, international relations scholar and academic. Currently he is Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield. This John Hobson Is the great grandson of John A Hobson.(if that matters)

  I'm ha-haing at the moment. Why? Because understanding that the collective mind-set in the USA is anti-socialism, a results of the decades of propaganda in which the USA saw the Soviet Union as its big enemy.

  But aome time back I read an article (now lost in my jumbled files) describing how the US government party often used pork barreling as a way to win votes. If a certain congressional district was failing economically, this writer claimed that the government would often spend some money in that area via its ability to spend money on military projects. The writer called it, "Military Socialism."

  I've never gone into the 'truthiness' of that claim. Is it correct?

  they don’t understand the history, the doctrines or the bible.

  many people become jws because they were raised as witnesses so they take the plunge.

  That's my impression also. Over the years I was associated with some 10 congregations and formed the view that less than 20% of witnesses really knew much more than the basics. The majority may have been able to turn up a few texts in the bible to prove something, but a deeper discussion would have seen them at a loss. Being a good witness was a matter of having a good memory.

  Quote: "Am I the only idiot here that converted when I was about 20 years old ? True at that time I was in a vulnerable state and a co-worker shared some scriptures with me and gave me some literature ."

  NO! You're not the only one. I think I was about 17 and probably could be described as vulnerable. This was the early 1950's. WW2 was not that far past, and Europe was still struggling. A movie (of all things-grin) had an affect on me, It was called , "The Boy With Green Hair," about a kid who's hair turned green and would stay green until the world tried to be peaceful.

  I was also a bit of a fan of Dame Mary Gilmore, who could ask some penetrating questions, like: "If there is a god, who will he take to to heaven, the war hero bomber pilot who dropped bombs on innocent civilians and killed many, or the civilians that he killed?" In spite of being a bit studious, no-one had taught me critical thinking skills, and I wasn't smart enough to work it out for myself. I'd become something of a pacifist and when the Korean war started i wanted to refuse the draft that the Menzies' government started. As I tried to work out what I could do, the JW's became news because of their stand against military service. So I went up to one on the street (doing magazine work as it was called then) had a chat, he invited me to the PT next day. So I cut short my customary sunday sailing, and went to the talk. Ted Jarascz gave the talk, so I got intro'ed to him though I thought he was not impressed by my colorful shirt or fashionable buzz cut hair. So I kept going, went to court as a conscientious objector, but the magistrate ruled that I did not have a conscience. Since the Society would gave no advice on what to do, a group of us (i.e. JW kids) decided to obey the direction to report, but refused to obey military orders. That seemed to cause some indecision in Canberra as they took a few weeks to come up with a way to handle us, which in the end boiled down to taking us to another magistrates's court finding us guilty of something and handing us over to the army to be jailed for the two years we should have served in the army.

  The army bureaucracy decided I had not had a proper medical so had me examined by an army Dr, who asked me what it was all about and made his own decision that I was right and the army wrong and exempted me. Luck was on my side because I was still a dumb kid who lucked in on that day. Took me near 40 bloody years to wake up to what a bloody fool i'd been, I read and re-read some of the stuff that Freddy F. had written in the red book (I think the title was, Life Everlasting in the freedom of the Sons of God, thought about all the "Ifs" that Freddy discussed and concluded that 1975 was a bit iffy.

  I became even more convinced when (about August/September of 1976) Nathan K and Freddy spoke to the Sydney elders at the Greenacre Assembly Hall. Nathan was fighting the cancer that eventually killed him and likely hoping that Freddie was right and 1975 would see the end. But Nathan got straight to the point and said to us that there was not enough time left in 1975 for all the things that Freddy said would happen, to actually happen (implying that they'd been wrong to peddle 1975) and gave Freddy a hard look as he said it. The talk left me wondering, that if old YHWH guided the decisions of the WTS and the JWs, how the bloody hell had he guided them to this point? Freddy got up to try and explain, but nothing he said to me made sense any more.

  Then the next year, the WTS sent Doug. Held out to Aust, to rouse us all up by saying that the big A could still be 18 years away. I stuck around for another 15 years before getting booted out, which led to my wife saying she was in spiritual danger and needed to divorce me.

  So there it is - I can only excuse myself by stating the obvious, What a bloody fool I'd been.

  I came across this discussion on YT. Simply expresses its looking at how AI, humans and robotics could work together. It was a TED talk by a Maurice Conti, with the title: The incredible inventions of intuitive AI.

  Conti suggests that technology will amplify our cognitive abilities in this 3 way alliance. Watch it, I think that it will be 15 minutes well spent.

  This where these sort of arguments start to fall apart, This poster wants to describe Jewish people as "pale." If we accept (for a moment) Jewish mythological origin stories as true, Abraham is described as coming from Ur in Mesopotamia, which means that Abraham was likely a Sumerian or a Semite. Whether or not that story has an truth in it. the Jews can only be described as West Asian ( if it matters). To describe contemporary European Jews as belonging to 'pale skinned' group may be true now, but that situation could only have come about through intermarriage (even if it was only with local converts). The skin color of Jesus and his followers was most likely darker than that of any 'pale' group. And likely many of the contemporary Moslem people of Palestine had the same ancestors as Jesus. The only difference is that at some point in history they found it convenient to convert to Islam. And likely they are 'purer' ethnically than any of the contemporary Jews that rule modern Israel. Paradoxical isn't it?

  Can we (yet) know for sure the skin color of any ancestral people? How many 'white' Europeans have Asian ancestors, as a result of the western migration of the peoples in and to the north of modern China?

  What is really under discussion here are two things. What has been the impact of the modern nations that form Europe on the world? And, in the so-called Industrial revolution, how many things are genuinely new discoveries?

  Skin color is not a choice, our skin color is determined by our genes. In the dim distant past it is believed that all people may have had a 'colored' skin, then a mutation caused some people to lose much of their skin pigmentation and to have a blue or green iris. This causes a problem for these people as they become more prone to develop melanomas (like me for example) than people with more pigment in their skin. Otherwise, there is little difference between so called ethnic groups.

  However, culture* is also a factor in how we view each other. For example, when Europeans began to travel in some numbers they perceived the Chinese and other East Asians as being white-skinned. that was when Europeans where surprised to find such a sophisticated civilisation in East Asia. But as Europeans entered into the era of aggressive empire building and came to the conclusion that they were "special' because they were subjecting people, who had more of the pigment called melanin in their skin (thus a darker skin) to their domination.

  This induced in some European races a feeling of superiority. Think of Kipling's poem, The White Man's Burden. which (if you do not know) was Kipling's plea for the USA to continue its war on Filipino's who wanted to set up a independent republic. The USA did, of course, using similar 'burn and destroytactics that the US army had used against American Indians. Note the implicit racism in the words:

  "Your new-caught, sullen peoples, Half devil and half child, Take up the White Man’s burden, etc

  That world of the superiority of those with a skin with lesser pigmentation started to come to an end shortly after the USA's war of domination with the Philippines. Japan fought a short war with Imperial Russia and sank two of the Russian fleets, shocking many in Europe with its Eurocentric mindset

  "Culture has various meanings in English. I usually use the word as referring to those things that can vary because of our background or choice. From a biological perspective we all must eat, and we eat somewhat similar things but from a cultural perspective those food products may be prepared and cooked in different ways,
