Selma deserved it, because she told Steve to cut his hair and shave off his beard so that he can be "presentable".

I went to the Watchtower Study with the "Selma and Steve" article today, and....
by cedars inno, i didn't really - but i'm anxious to hear from anyone who did!!.
what happened after the paragraph was read?
did anyone try to denounce abusing one's spouse under any circumstances, or were most answers supportive of the "advice" given to selma, i.e.

I went to the ASSembly
by MrFreeze ini didn't think i'd ever have a reason to go back to the assembly but my sister was getting baptised so i told her i would go.
i would still like to keep on decent terms with my family who is still in.
otherwise, i would have said no.. there were only a five people that got baptised (four kids and one elderly person).

I would have told that bitch that I had not come there to see her. If she doesn't have anything upbuilding to say she should remain silent.

"We miss you."
by dontplaceliterature init's beginning to annoy me when people send me text messages and e-mails of this sort.
it's even more annoying when it comes from people who i primarily associated with while i was still active, but who i haven't heard a word from since i quit going to meetings a couple months ago.
most of these people live less than five minutes from me and would be welcome at my house anytime.

dontplaceliterature, don't take it personally. It's just a formality with them. Like when someone asks, "How are you?" we respond, "Fine, thank you. And you?" It's been at least 4 years since I've showed up at the hall, and no one has ever stopped by or called. I simply just did not show up one day and never went back. It has been as if they hadn't noticed. But recently, for the Memorial, I received a handwritten letter from an elder, with a Memorial invitation and a magazine enclosed. Interestly the letter was saying how much everyone misses me. The letter concluded with, "We love you." How hypocritical! I like what blindnomore said: "They were never your friends in the first place but your fellow cult members It's time to get to know friends who care about you for being who you are not what you are."

Evil Elderettes, the true Hounds of Hell!
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inmy wife was told a brother was going to be disfellowshiped, "how do you know this is going to happen?
" sister so-so said "he was not repentant or humble to the brother's kindness.
" instead of engaging into a heated debate, she knew who the leak was, so-so's husband.

You know how the WT Society says there's an "Elijah class" and a "Jonadab class" and so on? These elderettes make up the "Delilah" class.

In some congregations, it's the elderettes who make all the decisions, and they actually run the congregation. (Reminds me of prison movies where the "bitches" run the place.) But think about the elders. Many are very talented and skillful and knowledgeable in their jobs, but they have no clue about how to manage people. Maybe some have become elders only because their wives have pushed them to do so. These women have a saying, that they tell the brothers: "You might be the Head, but I am the Neck!"
There are a lot of confidential congregation matters that elders share with the MS's. So in some cases the MS's might be sharing with their wives. These wives can be like elderettes-in-training.

I used to work in hotels the first few years of being a JW. Besides the WT convention, we'd have other groups, such as the World Wide Church of God, booking their annual conventions. In fact the WW C of G was the biggest group.
We did offer a slightly lower room rate, but I think the advantage for the hotel was that these groups would be renting a large number of rooms. If we were a 200-room motel for example, we know these groups would be using at least 150 or 175 rooms.
About 6 or 9 months before the convention I'd see some of the elders coming to meet with the hotel mgr to negotiate rooms.
I bet the real reason for requiring the flock to stay at the "approved" hotels was so that the "Pharisee" class wouldn't be seen doing whatever they were doing in the 5-star hotel. In the 1980's our conventions were in St Petersburg, FL. There was a Hilton right across the street but it was not on the list. But I'm sure the Bethel delegates stayed there! At one convevtion I remember during the announcements the CO said (from the platform) there will be a meeting in such-and-such room for all elders who are staying at the Hilton across the street. All elders who are staying at the Hilton are required to attend this meeting. I don't know what the outcome was, but I bet some of them did show up for the mtg and turn themselves in. I guess is, the visiting speakers stayed there and saw these others there.

My son was murdered today
by truman ini have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

This is another example of a witness who is so brainwashed, he cannot think for himself. So many live in constant fear of being caught for the slightest transgression, and then being disfellowshipped. Reminds me of a line in the song, "The Rose": the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live. Obviously because they are taught that the god who has "allowed wickedness" to go on will certainly destroy them at Armageddon for putting up the flag or for respectfully addressing a priest who has been helping their Catholic relative as "Father" or doing any other normal things the rest of human society does.
