Did anyone else find this intriguing/fascinating about this year 2011 and the year of your birth?
by StoneWall inby now you've probably seen the following dates tossed around that will happen in this year:.
but something i wasn't aware of and my brother-in-law showed me about the year 2011:.
take the last 2 digits of the year of your birth and add it to how old you are/will be in this year(2011) and it should always equal 111.. to illustrate, i was born in 1967 and will be 44 this year.

my story, would like some advice
by deservingone26 inim looking for some advice.. so i grew up as a witness was baptized when i was seventeen, which by the way i was pushed into baptizm cuse my parents kept asking me when i was and threatned to not buy me a car if i didnt get baptized.
since it was never in my heart i was never very dedicated and was disfellowshipped by nineteen i started the process of coming back but after bout four months i moved out.
i started partying alot mainly with my other disfellowshipped friends and nonactive jw frien, we were drinking alot and smoking weed but soon i started feeling the need to go back so i started up at the meetings but i got bored and went back to my old ways, this has been what i have been doing for the last five years, partying getting drunk and drugs and then stopping and going back to the meetings for a couple months, the same process for last the last almost five years.

hi deservingone, welcome
the drinking drug scene after you exit is a minefield and I have seen this unfold. I feel for you deservingone. My friend quit cold turkey like you and then had to deal with extreme lonliness too. I like the sound of butterfly's advice. Do you enjoy sports? - these sorts of energetic activities can make you feel free as they release endorphin highs - even better when you join a club or start with a gym and make friends from there.
Counselling can help build confidence and give you direction.

How would you answer: Archeology
by sabastious ini have noticed that the professional archeology community, in my opinion, likes to jump the gun.
they seem to fill in a lot of historical holes with little actual evidence.
not to say they don't fill an important role on this planet.. what is your general view of archeology and why?.
-
Curtains
imo archaeology is very very important. The problem with ancient authors is that they tended to mix older fiction with present fact. So they will describe urban features from their own time which may be several hundred years later than the stories they rework to fit their time. Archaeology helps us to separate the present fact of the author from the more ancient story. We can then enjoy both - so thumbs up from me
then of course you've got the TV programs that are trying to make everything relevant to today - bound to set our heads spinning

Has mind control become required for real progression today?
by sabastious inreading through combatting cult mind control has got me to thinking.... cult behaviours are found in an alarmingly high amount of groups.
just start naming off large groups off the top of your head:.
national football league.

Good topic sabastious. Its a life skill when you can recognise when there is persuasion going on. We have to learn to evaluate whether or not we really do want to go along with a particular course and then be assertive and say no as clearly as we can.

Ten Common Faults in Human Thoughts
by purplesofa inthis list is a follow up to top 10 common faults in human thought.
thanks for everyones comments and feedback; you have inspired this second list!
it is amazing that with all these biases, people are able to actually have a rational thought every now and then.

thanks for sharing these features of human thought. I know that I am very heuristic (my new word for today) and If I am not mistaken I have come accross this many times on JWN.

How much positive reinforcement do you need to function on JWD?
by TMS insuffice to say most of us appreciate favorable comments when we initiate a thread.
even in our jw days, after an assembly part, student talk, public talk etc.
the kind words of our brothers and sisters contributed to our self-esteem.

Adding to my comment above and getting warmed up
What I see going on here on JWD/JWN is a kind of social drama. Elements of the JW social drama figure prominently. So Farkel if you are told that you sometimes fulfill the role of GB member and if we go further and say GB members sometimes fulfill roles such as occupied by George Washington & Winston Churchill, then there is not such a great problem with being compared to GB members. In this sort of scenario I don't mind being cast in the role of nitwit I guess. But if you call me nitwit then I'm going to come out with my gun slinging like John Wayne in Bite the Bullet.
