Why do Americans have to pay so much for College???
by RubaDub ini know there is a huge college/university lobby here in the us that lives off of students paying, in some cases, enormous amounts of money just to attend.. putting politics aside, if that is possible, (and i am not a bernie sanders guy by any means), but how can we pay for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary school, junior high, high school, and then throw a huge debt to someone who wants to continue learning?
can't the us (public and state universities) afford four more years for young people to get on a career path without having to, in some cases, take out a mortgage/loan more than the cost of some homes?
then, (and nothing against immigrants, i am married to one), but then the us has to "import" students from other countries to fill the needs that we should be supplying here.

First, I am not, in any way, satisfied with K-12. I would much rather have the option to take my property tax money and seek private education. Or at least if it must be publicly funded, provide vouchers and let the market compete for student dollars.
Second, the cost will necessarily balloon when you flood the market with billions in government grants and loans. Kids are taught that the only path to success is a college education, and regrettably, college is really not for all people. The flood of money creates a bubble, costs rise, and quality falls as all the <insert bull shit word>-studies programs are created.

I am continually surprised by the Democrats inability to see beyond the first layer of cause and effect.
Many states that traditionally award their electoral college votes to Democrats seem to think that the electoral college is a bad idea. They came to this conclusion, not out of some deeper principles; rather, they reached this conclusion because Hillary won the popular vote in 2016. If only the Presidency were determined by the popular vote, the Trump wouldn’t be the President.
So, they reason, if we all get together and pass legislation on the state level to give all of our electoral college votes to the winner of the popular vote, no matter how it turns out in our state, then we will produce the conditions sufficient to regain control to prevent another Trump. (See: National Popular Vote Interstate Compact).
But... there’s always a but. The first layer of cause and effect (Trump bad, Hillary good, electoral college screwed Hillary, electoral college bad) misses a few points.
It’s Democrat states that are signing up for this compact - states that would go to the Democrats anyway. For these states, doing nothing would still mean the electoral college votes would be assigned to the Democratic candidate. Except now... now, they open the possibility that Republicans in other states could actually affect electoral college votes of Democratic states. And they are proudly advertising this fact. This will cause voter behavior to change, more than likely tipping the popular vote toward Trump.
Imagine the sheer butthurt of a Trump 2020 re-election. But to add insult to injury, imagine California forced to give its votes to Trump. Oh the tears... the howling...

Besides, if the popular vote was all that was necessary we'd have Hillary Clinton in the White House.
I don’t think that is true. If we had a popular vote, the campaign strategies would shift along with voting patterns (more people voting in California and NY, for example). Trump would have won anyway.

by Simon inthere was a babylon bee or onion spoof article a few weeks back claiming the democrats would lose their own caucus and ... well, they managed to do it for real.. apparently they can't count their own votes, their app and process is now steeped in corruption (created by a company called 'shadow' that has taken money from multiple candidates as well as the dnc and has links to clinton) and multiple candidates have declared themselves the winner.
biden has apparently done so badly that he's going to court to block the results being announced.
no estimate of when they will be released even.. how do they come up with this ... and what does it mean for the election results where they oversee the counts?.

And all you really need to know is that Trump did all he could to STOP any testimony, and any documents.
No, that’s not true. He said that he would comply with ALL subpoenas and document requests IF AND ONLY IF they are valid. The subpoenas issued by the House were from a committee that didn’t have the authority to compel testimony. Why? Impeachment power is given to the House, and the House can delegate that, but there has to be a vote in the House. Those subpoenas were issued after the speaker announced the investigation in a press conference.
Once the House had the vote, they didn’t reissue the subpoenas. Why? It would have been simple. Just reissue them.
Incidentally, the reason why Trump said he would comply with a valid subpoena is that he assumed a proper vote would actually afford the minority party some rights - like being able to call witnesses too. But wouldn’t you know it - the Republicans still, to this day, haven’t gotten their minority day. Why do you think that is?
