I often wonder to what extent they believe their own teachings.

Should a Christian celebrate Christmas?
by Samsie inhello, i'm new here and have woken up to the real truth concerning the org.
i'm sort of fading away at the moment.... i need help with something, i used to as a child celebrate christmas and have always had amazing memories of it (my husband hasn't as he was born into the org) but i gave it up when i learnt the "truth".
my interest was only in pleasing god and still is.

Where did you get the idea it was wrong to celebrate Christmas and that everyone has to see it that way?
From the Watchtower, which you now know isn't "Jehovah's organization" or "the truth." See how powerful their indoctrination can be? You don't believe it any more but you still have the emotions they programmed into you.
Romans 14:5 says that what days we do or don't celebrate is a matter of personal conscience: "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind."
Follow your conscience in this matter, but don't let your conscience be controlled by 8 men in New York who falsely claim to speak for Jehovah.

Given that the WT teaches that the dead will know nothing until the resurrection, imagine a resurrected person who died in 1924, expecting the resurrection in 1925 because Rutherford said so in "Millions".
They get resurrected and meet someone who died in 1974, expecting the resurrection in 1975 because Freddy said it was an appropriate time for Jehovah to act.
They meet a JW who died in 1994, expecting the resurrection to come before 2000 because the new system would surely come before the end of the 20th century because the Awake! masthead said so.
Then they meet someone who died in 2014 (100 years after 1914) and learn about Splane's talk about "overlapping generations."
In fact, imagine all the conflicting false teachings each one would be believing because it was "the truth" when they died.
What doctrines would they have in common?
They'd all have to relearn everything, and they'd find out that most of what they proclaimed as truth door-to-door was just plain wrong.

Somewhere I saw a video of Peter Gregerson where he talked about how he examined what the WT was teaching in 1918-1919 and read The Finished Mystery, hoping that would reaffirm his faith in the organization.
Instead, it made him sick because it was so ludicrous he realized there was no way Jesus Christ would consider such nonsense to be a faithful feeding of his sheep. That's what led him to lose all faith in the WT.
If anyone has a link to that video, please post it. It's really good.

How To Talk About Interpretation With Jehovah's Witnesses.
by Vanderhoven7 inthis from my book: good news for jehovah's witnesses.
before we discuss any doctrinal issues, i would like to distinguish between what i believe is proper versus improper interpretive practice.... so you know what i can accept as biblical and what i can't accept.. basic guidelines for validating doctrinal claims`).
i. there must be at least one scriptural reference that can be cited for support of any doctrinal claim or position.. ii.

JWs are trained to think in sound bites which become thought stoppers.
For example, to the WT James 2:26 ("...faith without works is dead") justifies its entire works salvation system.
No matter what else you show them, they always recite those five words and refuse to think any further.

Jesus is Michael the Archangel
by Fisherman inonly jesus has the power and authority to defeat satan and kick him out of heaven:.
“now have come to pass the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our god and the authority of his christ, because the accuser of our brothers has been hurled down, who accuses them day and night before our god.”.

"Firstborn" means preeminent, as shown by the context of the very next verse.
There's a separate Greek word which means "first created."
Paul didn't use that word.

I always thought it strange that the WT claims that Jesus is Michael.
John 1:1 doesn't say, "In the beginning was Michael, and Michael was with God, and Michael was a god."
John 1:14 says that a heavenly person called "the Word" became flesh and dwelt among us.
But in WT theology:
1. Jesus wasn't an archangel in human flesh.
2. What Michael and Jesus shared wasn't a personality, but rather an impersonal, animating life force analogous to electricity which powers various appliances.
3. When Jesus was conceived in Mary's womb, Michael went out of existence as a heavenly personage.
4. While on earth, Jesus was a perfect man like Adam, no more and no less.
5. As a man, Jesus didn't have a separate soul or spirit that survived physical death.
6. When he died, all of his personality, thoughts, and memories died with him.
7. After the resurrection, Jehovah implanted Jesus' memories into the re-animated Michael.
If all this is true, then in what sense was Jesus Michael and Michael Jesus?

Jude 9 says that Michael didn't dare rebuke Satan directly but left that to Jehovah.
Yet, Jesus rebuked Satan directly many times (Matthew 4, Mark 8:33, for example).

The GB required a lot of JWs to go to prison while they themselves lived like kings.
