Today's WT
by OneFingerSalute inso today's wt seems to put out the idea that during early christian times it was god's hand that made the romans build roads, have strong laws, etc.
to make the preaching easier.. anyone else notice that?
some here really banged on about how great it was that god did that, just for them.

The shift: from follower to wanting to leave
by paradisebeauty inthis week has been the week when my whole way of thinking shifted.
i still cannot believe how this can happen so fast.
over a period of seven days i went from not even imagining that i could ever not be a witness to wanting to get out of this organisation.. .

Congratulations on your awakening!
For me it was like waking up from a bad dream and as I researched each awful belief, I saw that none of it was true! It was just a nightmare!!!! No god trying to kill me, no armageddon waiting for us all. Those 'men' had no more right to control anyone than the man in the moon! LIFE just opened up and became wonderful with so many possibilities ......instead of the constant drudgery & meetings with only more of the same tomorrow. The only reward was to pioneer, and DO even MORE! Becoming the elders full time spy & their favorite (sucker) was the only pay off!
Welcome to your real life, don't waste a minute of it by being afraid of any elders or old ideas. Keep quiet about things until you have a chance to adjust to NORMAL, it does take some time.

Protect governing body with your life
by Zoos inthere was a quote in the literature some years back about protecting the governing body from secular authorities and insinuated that we should do whatever it took to insure their safety.. i seem to remember it was something about refusing to help the authorities locate the governing body.
i may be off track here.
if this is familiar to you could you please help me find the quote?.

Zoos........interesting bit about watchtower ..........scroll down to 1939 and you will see that Guards were used to protect the 'elite'. There are pictures of Rutherford and his guards who actually wacked any who came near!
I know this is not exactly what you were looking for but hope you find it helpful. The Houses at Beth Sarim & Beth Shan were guarded. It seems the leaders were protected but the rank & file were only lowly good for nothing slaves who should give up their lives for brothers !

Mummy Dear Lies at Assemblies
by Tempest in a Teacup inmy zealously fanatic jw mum is aware of my current "tourist-jw" life.
what she doesn't know for sure is that she's part of the ones who brought me to this.. my mum was a quite moderate jw, she even got publically reproved once.
in our house, there was no daily text, no family study, no eating together, no preaching together, no watchtower study...even though she regularly checked my wt to see if i studied it.. being a single mother, she had a quite busy work schedule, so from the moment she woke up to the moment she went to bed, you'd better not waste a single minute of her time needlessly.

Watchtower put impossible goals & commands before us and when we humans fail these impositions, the outcome is predictable. Both sides of the issue are in delusion......... the liars & those who more or less won't 'see' it! It is a bummer to wake-up and realize the whole thing is a disappointing con job!
As an eager jw newbie I believed everything ....... omg those amazing zealous bro & sis .......all the time out in serve-us! 15 bible studies, on the platform telling about it at conventions and then................. you find out it was all a lie, they were making it all up! Sorry it is your Mom who is so deluded that she cannot see the reality. Glad that you have opened your eyes tho...congratulations, it is not easy.

Struggling
by Alive! ini read here regularly and although i haven't joined in, i really appreciate all the wonderful contributions from those who are willing to share their experiences.... .
i was a convert.
i won't go into the whole history ( perhaps another day) - my story could easily be recognised in the small town where i live, with my husband.. so, we stopped going to the meetings around a period of time when we were going through severe emotional difficulties - at that point, we needed unconditional family love - the hectic, forced jw dinner parties and social occasions gave no real comfort.

A bit late to your post but want to say welcome to you both. It is a terrible thing to have our hopes & all the special events that we looked forward to dashed to pieces by fact & reality! When I suspected the worse my new computer never cooled off for 2 years! Omg ......maddening to prove over and over again how wrong on so many levels all those prophecies & predictions are. All that proto type, anti type bla bla .........and the children .....the children that watchtower was so proud to display on the cover of the awake ....that died for lack of medical attention, telling parents that they pleased god well! The thousands of witness children & young adults who were raped by their elders and in many cases their witness fathers! Disgusting...... imagine those children having to sit in the audience and listen to those hypocrites.
Congratulations to you for waking-up, it took me many wasted years also. At the moment watchtower has stolen MY children....... they have been taught to hate & shun even a mother & grandmother who will not be controlled by watchtower.
"We invested in a "family" that is not family unless you swallow the same lies and deceits"
This very promise of a family, "mothers & fathers & sisters & brothers" is how they hooked me! Big mistake on my part!
Hang in there you two, things will be more tolerable soon. Most days I don't remember any of it and am totally out of the mind control.
All the very best to you ...don't waste a minute more ....begin your new life.

The Secret is out....but nobody cares
by MrTheocratic ini've been looking on this site for some time but never posted.
i'll give a little about myself, but not too much.
i'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee.

MrTheocratic .........great to have you here, your thoughts are refreshing actually!
Being "believer" for many decades & having put my lot in & faith in this so called organization............ I have really felt let down & betrayed, not just by WT, but by finding out a great many members were just pretending all along. While we were not planning ahead, not saving money, not sending our kids to college ...to find out that "the smart ones" were looking out for themselves, investing in everything of this world!!!! Boy did I feel let down & so very DUMB!
So while I am glad for all these people who quietly do their own thing while looking so piously JW ......I now feel even more determined to expose this stinking organization for what it really is and does to people!
Hope you stay with us.

JW Son dead in German plane crash, no big deal!
by noolite inseems to be a jw connection with the crash after all, but it wasn't the co-pilot as some had surmised.
the father of the only american male killed in the crash weighs in with a very mild assessment of the mass murderer, and doesn't seem overly concerned about his son, now deceased.. ---------------------------------------------------------------- .
"the parents of an american victim of the french alps plane crash said on 27 march they feel sadness for the parents of the co-pilot rather than feeling anger for the loss of their son.. robert tansill oliver, a jehovah's witness, lost his 37-year-old son robert oliver calvo in the germanwings plane crash.. "i don t feel anger.

Sparrowdown so true. "I found a lot of witnesses seemed relieved when someone died because they felt it meant they were guaranteed a resurrection"Not only that but they get a huge pat on the back for this "lack of natural affection". It seems to them to show superior spiritual strength.
It is the same when witnesses throw their unbelieving family away....thumbs- up and atta boy and applause for doing these strange behaviors. You can hear the approval for this after the announcements at meetings!

When every prediction they have made over 130yrs has failed!

Help needed: Written material regarding shunning of DF'd and DA'd individuals
by EdenOne ini would like this to become a permanent thread, because i think there are grounds - at least in europe - to take this matter up to the european court of human rights.
not sure we'll ever get there, but one must start somewhere.
objective: force, by legal means, the watchtower society and the jehovah's witnesses to stop the practice of shunning ex-jehovah's witnesses, on grounds that it constitutes a violation of human rights.. what is needed: all written material ever published by the watchtower society, especially since 1940's, concerning the practice of shunning.

Tony & his pals are just puffed-up goons! Imagine the audacity to claim to be the only ones in the whole world who will go to heaven & to be KINGS no less! And if you don't agree with them ...they will make god kill you! So there...hahahha!
LITS ......I have missed you ...glad you posted this and happy to hear that you are still hanging tough. Like you, I was told not to have children, so I can vouch that this really was said. Actually I was not even baptised yet (1960) What a bunch of crazies!
