I agree with obedience litmus test thing. It never really made any sense to me that they would forbid it, since Jesus wore one, and weren't we supposed to be following Jesus?

A new strategy in truth
by A Paduan in.

LOL! I understand, Pad:)
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the rock stood firm.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,

The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand went SPLAT! -

The REAL origins of JW's (look it up at your local library)
by ithinkisee indon't just go back to the 1800's to research jw's.
go back even further - to the first century.
in the first century, even during the time of the apostles, destructive sects were attempting to divide the congregations.

Narkissos,
But what about their claim that the one hundred forty-four thousand are chosen by spiritual annointing, and that only they and Jehovah "know" if they are truly of that class?Sounds a lot like a special elite class with "mystical" knowledge to me.

A guy came out of his house with a shotgun and threatened to shoot me and my service partner. It seems his son had just started studying with JWs, and he was none too happy about it.

The purpose driven life?
by MelbaToast inok, just wanting to vent here for a minute..... for all that don't know me very well, i have been dfd for about 8 years now and am just starting to figure out where i want to be as far as from a religious standpoint.. now, i have started to delve back into research to mitigate the bible and early protestant v. catholics.
its pretty interesting, but i havent really set foot in any different churches for a while.
once in a while, we go down the street to my hubbys church where he grew up.

"I don't know what to tell her the next time I speak with her....should I tell her quit trying to push her "Purpose Driven LIfe" Book and come back to reality.....or just stick through it?"
You could get a copy of "Grace Awakening" by Charles Swindoll and suggest she read that. It emphasises the differences between legalism and grace, and how a few legalistic Christians are turning lots of folks away from Christianity altogether. It might be a remedy for being too angry to discuss the issue:) -

TV? What's that? I'm a pre-nursing student, lol.
I get a hoot out of watching my boys line up on the couch to watch the new show about nannies that go in to work with families on their "kid problems".I never would've imagined that would interest them. -

How do the Kigdom Melodies compare to Christendom's Songs?
by Honesty ini just have to comment about the canned wtbts music on cd the local congregations play on $150 cd players through $20 speakers set in the foamboard ceilings at their sales meetings worship services.
what a joke the music is that they use to sing praises.
the lyrics remind me of a high school pep rally with all the emphasis on 'we're joe hoba's witnesses and yada-yada-yah preaching from door to door and from house to house' or 'life everlasting in the pair-o-dice' crap that just tickles the dubbies ears so much they get all pretty and pink.

No real comparison, imho. There were a few Kingdom melodies I liked-there was one aimed at children, can't remember the name of it. We got the children in our congregatioin together to learn it. They sang it at a congregation get together. It was really cute:)
The first time I went to church, the congregation had a live piano performance, and a very good quartet singing. It was so beautiful, I cried.
I've been listening to Christian songs on the radio a lot lately, because I feel like I know so very little about them (my children tease me about my new obsession, lol). The different types of music alone is mind blowing to me. I'm still not sure about the difference between praise music, worship music, hymns, etc, lol.And now I know how newcomers at the kingdom hall felt when they were stumbling their way throught the songs. I know so few of them, and I used to go to church when I was a kid!
For those of you who like Amazing Grace, Tod Agnew has created a version of it called "Grace Like Rain". It's kind of "Amazing Grace" for the younger generation-a little more "edgy". I really like it. But I like the original version, too.
I like alot of the older hymns. The first one I really came to appreciate was "For the Beauty of the Earth." I heard that one on the movie "Little Women" (the one with Wynona Ryder), and fell in love with it. And I was JW then;)The cool thing is, the second time I set foot in a church after leaving the JWs, they sang that song.
Nowisee,
Yes, there was at least one more song book I know of. It was in use the whole time I was in, and had a tan cover. I believe they are still using it. -

TIME WILL TELL (Did you fake your hours in Field Service?)
by Terry ini know for certain that brothers in our congregation often lied about their time on field service reports.
(yes, we had to fill out quota reports back in the old days).
one brother, harry, would dump magazines in the storm drains!

No. I was scrupulously honest, for all it was worth. My children and I averaged three to seven hours a month. It was all I could do, as I was working full time and caring for five children. The odd part was that since almost everyone else was "padding" their time, the elders just assumed we were, too. Toward the end, I rebelled. I kept going out in service for awhile, but wouldn't turn in my time slip. The book study conductor had to hunt me down at the end of every month to get it, lol. Funny thing is, when I quit giving a darn about my time, I had some really good conversations with people. Field service got interesting. The sisters that went with me seemed to be a little perturbed that I was getting "good calls" when I, in their eyes, exerted so little effort in service while they sacrificed so much every week.It was pretty ironic, lol.

The day I put my DA letter in the mail, I went directly to a garage sale the town was having to support the First Responders and bought almost all the Christmas decorations they had, then I hit the dollar store and bought everything they had, including a tiny lil Christmas tree and miniature ornaments. In August, lol.

A Question for anyone familiar with Mormons and RCLDS
by Cicatrix inhi there, i was wondering if any of you who have experience with the mormons know anything about the reorganised church of jesus christ of latter day saints.
how are they similar and how do they differ?
i was told by a relative who grew up attending the reorganised church of latter day saints that they broke off over some differences, but i don't know what they were.

Thanks Everyone, I'll check out that site. Gumby-I'm not looking into joining. Just trying to figure out if involvement in that religion by close family members had anything to do with the way I was raised:) I have to look into the Masons, too. Seems my family is very alternative religion oriented, lol.
