  Actually you are the one who made the statement. You attempted to 'prove' that sex is not an instinct, because a starving person will eat instead of have sex. I merely pointed out a) the example is flawed b) sex is an instinct, just read Freud or any standard psychology text.

  Since I could easily create a bogus account and use it to reply, claiming to be her, that would hardly prove anything. And I could make up facts about where she schooled etc, none of that is going to prove anything either. And unless you are willing to provide the same level of information,

  facts expressed in clear, concise, psychological terms. I want her to list her research sources

  I can hardly see why I should. So far all we know about you is that had one or more psychology classes in college. My remark was mostly meant tongue in cheek. In any case her undergraduate was at USC and her master's is from Cal State Los Angeles. As to the years and grades I have no idea.

  As I said before different instincts are present at different levels of intensity depending on circumstance.. Most of them can be suppressed to one degree or another. Not many people could commit suicide by jumping in a pool and inhaling water. And of course we can suppress out procreation instinct indefinitely much easier than we can suppress our instinct to eat, because without food we will die. Without sex we can still live. That doesn't mean sex is not an instinct. Consult any psychology text and you will see that sex/procreation is one of humans' instincts.

  Yes survival is an instinct, procreation is also an instinct. I don't know where you are getting this idea that sex/procreation is not an instinct.

  Survival in humans is an instinct. Sex is not. We can control sex.

  How can you post this stuff. All instincts can be controlled. Have you ever heard of a martyr? Or someone who knowing sacrifices his life to save someone? If that isn't 'controlling' the survival instinct I don't know what is. Have you ever heard of someone on a hunger strike?

  Being able to control a behavior does NOT mean it isn't an instinct. Even a dog can control is instinct to eat or have sex, if properly trained.

  Sex in humans is not considered an instinct. First thing we learned in psychology class. If you have been without food or sex for 2 weeks, which one would you do first? Eat or have sex? You would eat.

  Eating is not considered an instinct. If you are in a burning house, and you have chance to sit down and eat a delicious meal, or run out and preserve your life, which would you do? You would run out!

  Therefore according to your reasoning eating is not an instinct while self preservation is. Your example does not prove what you think it does. Different instincts are present with different levels of intensity depending on circumstances.

  All I know is, I was not there at the beginning, so anything I could come up with is pure speculation. Nothing more, nothing less.

  So when police detectives get to a crime scene all they can come up with from examining all the evidence is pure speculation?
