as much information, insight and entertainment this forum provides, some things about its format and design have come to annoy me.
let me start by saying that i think one of the biggest weaknesses of this forum may be the active topics option at the top.
it seems to me that some people may use this option just to see which topics are still alive.
Vita,
But nor do I think you necessarily need a "good education" to make thoughtful comments.
I understand how you feel, Farkel would back you adamantly here, and that puts you in good company. But this disucussion board is not restricted to 'give us thoughtful comments or go away because you irritate me'. Many are here to support each other as they recover and intigrate into the real world again. Many would rather play than study. However, I can see that would be trying to those who take discussions very seriously. I hopy you understand and will be patient.
Good to have you here sharing your point of view.
jwxelder,
I thought you handled your resentment very well. I commend your restraint.

Give my regards to Marilyn Zweifel if she is in attendance.
She was conducting the discussion when we first arrived. I will have to tell her you said hello. And YES, at BRCI women are allowed to teach, oversee sessions, even serve on the board of directors. notperfectyet,
Cool just 2laws. anything that starts with a C freaks me out, convention, conferance, whatever.
eeewwwhhhh, gave me a chill - "convention", "conference". How about Candy, Cake, calling card, calm, Canada, Chamomile, cannabas, candlelight, carefree, carousel, Casanova, cash, and thats just "ca" Jst2laws

Englishman,
Yes Steve, but how will you be able to drive to England?Drive? If only we could. The only part of our travels I dread is the trip across the pond, not coming there but GETTING there. Considering are travel at this point is in our 37 foot motor home with couch, kitchen, bathroom, queen size bed in the bedroom - I can barely stand the thought of flying and not being able to straightening my legs, with my elbows tucked into my gut, somebody's 6 year old kicking the back of my seat , not able to move a body part except to turn my head FOR SEVEN HOURS - I need a drinkThere is the small matter of the Atlantic ocean to deal with..

Hello my loyal friends who apparently have little to do in life considering you are reading this thread. We are in Chicago for two days for the BRCI Conference.
BRCI? For those new, it stands for Bible Research and Commentary International. It is a non-profit organization set up in about 1985 by Pete Gregerson, Dan Dykstra, Ray Franz, Tom Cabeen and a few others. The group doesn't really exist to do Bible research any longer but they have a good once a year program for hurting and recovering former JW's. They are a Christian group, very educational, maybe a little too "Thankyou Jesus" for some, but they certainly are focused on support of those newly exiting. They have a free hotline, WHY- 1914, one can dial for answers and support.
We will stay for just a couple sessions today before hitting the road again. This afternoon Dr. Jerry Bergman will be presenting "From Jehovah's Witness to Atheist and Why Molecular Biology Was Critical in Becoming a Christian". If I get a chance I will try to post a summary to this thread later this evening.
Later today we crank up the diesel and turn right until the compass points WEST. Seven day tour to the coast. Hope you all are having a wonderful week-end.

assessing conclusions and arguments involves two tasks.
we should 1) look for unsound reasoning to avoid deception and we should 2) look for sound reasoning for enlightenment.
intelligent assessment of conclusions and arguments calls for a knowledge and comprehension of both these tasks.
Farkel,
But the great church father Eusibius told us the "Phoenix would rise again" therefore any attempt to arrive at a predictable temperature for Phoenix must allow for the instability factor of rising temperatures as revealed by the divine revelation. Your deductive and inductive reasoning is doomed to failure without the infalible, inerrant, divine revelation.
Why do you ignore me Farkel. Are you afraid to face the immutable, unchangable, superior knowledge of divine revelation? Throw aside your vanity of human reasoning, kneel, and humble yourself before it is too late. Submit your will to the "glorious ones" who explore the "deep things of God" and stop "leaning upon your own understanding".
Jst2laws of the "We don't need no stinky rationalism or secularism because we be saved by divine revelation" class
Sorry Marvin and Farkel, but I'm on vacation and this is just too heavy right now, but I will BTTT with my "revelation"

Marvin,
Very good thesis. But I have decided that rational thought is too dangerous and I intend to return to the save ground of not "leaning on my own understanding".
I have decided I feel safer with "Revelation" as a way of knowing rather than rational thought as a way of knowing. And rather than listen to god myself I have decided to listen to other men who claim god speaks to them. They are the same men who convinced me to never 'lean on my own understanding'. Yes, I'm sure leaning on THEIR understanding would be better.
However I will never rely on such unsafe tools as deductive or inductive reasoning as long as god is revealing truth through men and their publishing corporation.
Remember: "A thing is a terrible waste to mind" or something like that.

tuesday we had a wonderful visit with the andersons.
sorry we failed to post it until now but i was minutes from sending this yesterday when we drove out of the last sprint cell in central illinois that handled internet service for that day of travel.. .
we did not talk with the andersons much about the lawsuit ?
Chris,
More than these subjects we spent most of our time debating philosophical differences, throwing verbal jabs at each other and laughing out loud in public. We were badShocked! Shocked I say!!
Common, Chris, You know that lady has some strange and controversial ideas about things like quantum physics.
Celtic
Yes everything is well so far, but cold here. WONDERFUL.
Mulan,
We are trying to keep in touch. But very frustrating sometimes with the power issues, internet access problems, bumps in the road tossing the mouse in the air.
xenawarrior,
We seem to have dodge the third disaster. Actually, we haven't had any disasters personally, ( the tire issue is part of travel) but we wil keep stopping if we can help others with their's.
Codeblue
Yes we will try to report on the meeting tomorrow. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of old friends too.
BTW, I just got of the phone with an old bethel friend who was disappointed he could not meet up with us as we passed through. He is another JW in good standing who is just playing the role to avoid the consequences of thinking for oneself.

We did not talk with the Andersons much about the lawsuit ? it drags on through the courts and people have to live their lives without holding their breath waiting on these things to happen. For those not familiar with the Andersons, almost two years ago they filed a gigantic suite against the Watchtower Society on eight different counts. The original offense was the Watchtower?s slanderous implication that Barbara Anderson had been disfellowshipped for some ?local sin? (sighting 1 Cor. 5, on immorality) rather than for her participation in the DateLine program. The Watchtower adamantly denies that her disfellowshipping had anything to do with her exposing the Society?s inadequate child molestation policy on DateLine. That brings on a slew of other charges, one of which is ?wrongful disfellowshipping?. Joe was likewise wrongfully disfellowshipped for telling his local elders in his letter of resignation as an elder that the action taken against his wife was a sham.
The case has been waiting in Appeal Court since April for a decision on the count above of ?wrongful disfellowshipping?. The Watchtower says they cannot be sewed on this count as there is no Tennessee statute on which to base the charge. The judge says there is bases as it may be the disfellowshipping was only to silence ?whistle blowers? rather than over religious teachings (which the courts cannot judge) but the WT says no, so this ?charge? must be evaluated by an appeal court.
Now this is not an appeal of a ?guilty? or ?innocent? decision but only an appeal of the judges decision to let the ?charge? of wrongful disfellowshipping to go to trial. Regardless of the outcome the case will go to trial with either eight counts against the WT or seven. This could take a year just to get the question of this one count resolved so it is not surprising the Anderson?s are not making this trial the main focus of their lives and why we discussed the case very little.
What we did talk about was our common vacations, old bethel friends and experiences, Joe?s new motor cycle and Barbara?s book in progress. More than these subjects we spent most of our time debating philosophical differences, throwing verbal jabs at each other and laughing out loud in public. We were bad. We had a great time and it was far too short but we already have plans for the next visit.
I am sorry we didn?t get pictures until after dark and what we did take we had to let Barbara screen them. Below you will find the only approved picture of the Andersons.
We are now near Chicago. We visited with a few more JW?s in good standing on the way but that report must be excluded. Tomorrow we will drop in on the BRCI (Bible Research and Commentary Institute) meeting for a day.
Below is on poor picture of Joe?s Harley.
