did mary the mother of jesus remain a virgin all her life?
the catholic/orthodox believe that she never had sex with her husband and poor joseph had to spend the rest of his life in an unconsummated marriage unable to sleep with his wife.
i find this unlikely that such a demand was imposed on him and there is the well known mention of jesus's brothers.

Another unlikely argument is that the word brother means cousin since Hebrew didn't have another separate word for cousin. However the gospels were written in Greek.
True the Gospels were written in Greek, however the culture in the middle east is primarily an oriental culture. To this day, I have a hard time keeping track of some of the relatives that my Nepalese students refer to constantly as their brother when what they actually mean is that this person is their cousin or some other distant relative. It seems that this tradition is still alive and well in the oriental East.

Hi:
The following was written around 150 A.D. and is known as the Protoevangelium of James. It is based on a tradition found among eastern Christians that Joseph was significantly older than Mary and that Mary was a temple virgin betrothed to the widower Joseph to protect her virginity.
http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0847.htm
I should point out that Luther and Calvin and the other reformers never questioned Mary's perpetual virginity. The idea that Mary had relations with Joseph after Jesus was born and gave birth to other children is a recent innovation.

we've lived here for nearly 2 years now, and this is the first i've seen them, and i'm home most of the time.
they caught me as i was taking the rubbish out; i didn't even realise they were in my front garden.
anyway, it was the first warm saturday we've had since last year, and here comes a mother with her young son.
The last working Witness that was here burned the tires on his car as he was rushing to leave my driveway. That was back when Armageddon was delayed due to the time lapse between the "creation" of Adam and the "creation" of Eve,
I showed the Brother where the Society taught that Adam and Eve were both "created" the same year. I could see the signs that his bowels emptied into his pants as he sat on my sofa. (Next time I do that I gotta remember to be sure the Witness is standing)
Gary:
In what publication did the Society teach that Adam and Eve were both created the same year? I need that one for the file. :)

the july 1st watchtower is one that i'm sorely tempted to kick into oblivion....yes it irritated me greatly.....mind control at its bluntest!.
young jws are being encouraged to stop dilly dallying around and get dunked!!!!.
'....why would you put off getting baptized?.
What does the WTS do for its young anyway?
Well........
They pretty much pound any creativity and love for life out of them I believe.

so, even back when i was a true believer i noticed this... .
this watchtower study today, i just got back from, was all about how great the elders are.
what always wigs me out about these things (because they trot this stuff out in a wt study every year or two) is how the elder conducting the study is up there talking about and praising the elders in the third person, saying how great they are, when he is an elder.
Where does the bible say any man gets double honor? We can't honor mothers on mothers day, fathers on fathers day, or anyone on their birthday because it's putting one person above another. JW's can't stand for the bride at the wedding because it gives her too much honor but the elders get double honor. Isn't that people worship too?
Good point! Jeff S.
i got you truthseeker.... truthseekerre: saturday district convention notes: don't research jw's online!!!!

master member.
Paragraph 1HOW long have you been waiting for Jehovah's day to rid the earth of wickedness? How long are you willing to wait for it? Meanwhile, what attiude and resulting actions will mark your life?
Clearly, your answers will differ from those of churchgoers who are living just as they please, waiting to go to heaven
I find the last sentence in the paragraph above to be highly offensive.

Hi:
Makes you wonder if they are going to bring back the unapproved associate punishment for unbaptized children of JWs who break the rules.

i'm a newby here and was wondering the % of christians vs. .
non.rough estimate fine.
i sure like the comradery here for ex"s. but wonder why so many here leave their belief in god altogether.. what is it that caused disbelief?
I am a Christian.
I was raised in the JWs. Pioneered went to Bethel. Became inactive and somewhat agnostic for a few years. Finally decided I needed to figure some things out. So I spent hours and years reading theology books and books on Church History. I fell in love with Liturgical Worship in the Lutheran Church I started to attend. Then I started reading the writings of the early Church fathers which helped to fill in much of the gaps that I had when it came to understanding the Bible and Christianity. I flirted around with Eastern Orthodoxy for a while but then discovered the beauty of Christ in his universal family the Catholic Church.
Here is my story if you are interested: http://www.catholicxjw.com/UniversalFamily.html

well, one third of the convention is over, i had no choice but to attend due to my current situation.. the talks were worse than last year, and as usual if you have seen the program you will not find jesus in any of the talk titles - in fact, the only time jesus is mentioned is during a prayer or in connection with the ministry.. when you become aware of how sidelined jesus is, you can't help but notice that jehovah's witnesses are a modern version of the old testament religion - it's all about control, be attentive, obey the "faithful and discreet slave" etc etc, in stark contrast to belief and salvation through jesus.. only the talks with midly interesting material or that had ridiculous phrases used by the speaker are shown here.. friday.
9:50 be attentive to jehovah's promises of deliverance .
would you believe that this 20 minute talk was solely about being attentive to the program?
Hi Lil:
Praise God that He got you and your husband out of JWs. What an awesome example of God's grace.
