When "The Persecution" Comes - What a Let Down that turned out to be!

when i was young there was endless speculation about "the persecution".

i have very clear memories as a child sitting in the old kingdom hall in coatbridge hearing it talked about from the platform.

it was a frequent topic at home.. sometimes there was lurid detail about what sort of torture "they" might use against us to make us betray others.

Jehovah God will "put hooks in their Jaws" and they will then take the bait and go after Jehovah's Witnesses.
If I heard/read it once I heard/read it dozens of times the Watchtower apocalyptic time line goes as follows:

A. cry of peace & security achieved by secular,commercial,political powers.

B.'peace & security' disrupted by petty religious squabbles

C. the secular,political,military powers are provoked that their peace initiative is being ruined by pain in the ass religion. They through "radical militant elements of the UN" {wts quote} GO ON A BALLISTIC RAMPAGE and outlaw all religion yes the Watchtower say's that UN shock troops will come into our towns and burn every place of worship to the ground.They will 'hang high" and slaughter every clergy person.

D. after this orgasm of destruction the UN 'shock troops' instigated by Satan will then be outwitted by Jehovah and Jehovah God will "put hooks in their Jaws" and they will then take the bait and go after Jehovah's Witnesses encamped in their palatial tents. They will attack this insignificant minority as these bold kingdom proclaimers WILL STILL BE PREACHING the MESSAGE OF DOOM that the 'door to ark' has closed and you are all going to die! The entire World is now ready to exterminate Jehovah's Witness the one true religion.

Armageddon comes and all opposers to the Watchtower corporate leadership die.

growing old in the watchtower's "spiritual paradise" really sucks!.

this is 2012 and i am a younger 'baby boomer' born 1957 so i am 55 years old.... in another 20 or 30 years tops i have this destiny along with every human being including millions of devout jehovah's witnesses.. there is no watchtower 'new system paradise' you will grow old and die.if there really is an apocalyptic event of armageddon jesus christ advent,it only means that the watchtower organization will be swept away along with all other false religion..

MORE to the end times saga is the disproportionate number of trophy wives among the elder elite who will be changing daddy's diapers.
Nearly half of the elders in my circuit had wives who were young enough to be their daughters,these babes imagined that Jehovah was gonna make them young again any day in the new system

A JW lives on my street (knows I am apostate) and backing up 5 years ago he was out mowing his lawn and hand shoveling snow.
NOW 5 years later adult onset type two diabetes has ravaged him partly due to failing to vigorously manage his blood sugar believing in the delusion the 'New System' is gonna deliver him from evil.
He is near death in a wheelchair.
Too bad indeed.

Do JW still hold to their 1984 Doomsday deadline?

did jw's predict the world would end in 1984?.

the september 21, 1984 issue of chrisitanity today on pages 66-67, ran an article entitled: "do jehovah's witnesses still hold to their 1984 doomsday deadline?".

that's as far as my search has gotten me and it isn't on chrisitanity today's web-site.. can anyone find this article for me?.

I REMEMBER 1984 or was it 1986 was big with the JW because of the UN proclaimed a "Year of Peace and Security" they hinted and hinted at the conventions,discussions in field service and back of Kingdom Hall chit chat that it would be "appropriate" for the great trib to start that year.
Not making this up it prompted,'encouraged' scared me into emptying out my savings account and sending a check to the Society.
Anybody else remember this?

i am back from bakersfield and i can say it was the best district convention ever!

the end is coming soon, a few of the annointed were speaking about 2014 possibly being the year that jehovah would destroy all the hateful apostates!

the focus of this convention was not on love or the message of the good news of the kingdom.

Amazing that I remember (30+ years ago) hearing this applied to 'apostates' at the convention and the CO saying "See IT IS THE BIBLE that says to HATE APOSTATES" (unquote)

I lived and worked in Clearwater late 1970's and when they came up in conversation we would simply comment that their buildings were full of LAWYERS.

Interesting observation by us locals.

Bitter apostates

witnesses often go on about apostates being spiteful and bitter.

when you get cut off, shunned, or threatened with shunning just for the audacity of thinking differently, it's not surprising that getting angry at the witnesses is the reaction - it's like a self fulfilling prophecy.. but also, i recently posted an email from a 'friend' on this board who told me that everyone he'd spoken to about me said i had changed, become like another person.

it didn't occur to him that the day before i told my parents i'd quit the religion just 3 weeks ago, i met him for lunch, we had a good time and he didn't know anything was up.

church officials hushed up a child sex scandal in their ranks and refused to co-operate with police.. .

jehovah witness ministerial servant gordon leighton admitted sexually abusing a child when he was confronted by his church elders, a court heard.. but during the official police investigation, the 53-year-old who made headlines in the 1990s when wife yvonne, 28, died after refusing a blood transfusion after childbirth on religious grounds denied any illegal wrongdoing.. and when detectives asked elders simon preyser, harry logan and david scott to make statements about the confession, all three refused and said what they had heard was confidential.. for three years, the elders refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation and kept up that stance when the case was brought before newcastle crown court after the victim made a complaint to police.. each was issued with a witness summons which they fought to overturn before being ordered to testify by judge penny moreland citing public interest.. their barrister richard daniels said the men had a duty to god not to breach confidence.. he added: privileged communication between members of the congregation and ministers is an absolute right and duty and there is no power in law to breach such a confidence.. judge moreland said: it is apparent that the three elders who were present when this conversation took place are in possession of relevant evidence as to a point which is of real significance in this case.. they claim the right of confidentiality, they claim that what they heard said by the defendant during the course of that meeting ought to be subject to privilege, as ministers of religion.. judge moreland refused to withdraw the summonses and said: public interest is clearly in favour of this evidence being given.. what was said by the defendant on that occasion is of great significance in the trial.. despite the judges ruling, the men still refused to make statements to police until just hours before they were called before the jury.. leighton, who has since been expelled from the church at lambton kingdom hall in washington, denied two charges of indecency with a child and seven of indecent assault.. he was yesterday found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child and six of indecent assault.

he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.
