I boxed all my books and mags up years ago and took them round to my JW relatives to do with as they pleased. Since being on JWN I actually wish I had kept some for research purposes but I don't know how to ask for them back without telling them what I want them for.

How do I as a future "Therapist" help ex-jws that won't move on from the WT?
by booker-t ini am halfway through my master's program in psychology/sociology and plan on being a therapist/sounselor.
i left jw's in 1988 and i have never looked back.
i enjoy my life so much after getting my aa degree, then my ba degree, and now i will soon get my ma degree.

Sorry, but there is no way I would want to consult a therapist who asked how they can help people who "won't move on".
To me it is the same as a doctor asking a patient with severe depression why they don't just pull themselves together and stop being such a wimp.
Some people have been so emotionally damaged by their treatment at the hands of the WTS that they simply can't toughen up and move on as easily as you obviously think they should do.

Could this be accurate?
by NeverKnew inis the information on this webpage* regarding the socioeconomic conditions of jws a fair connection to the all too familiar wts quote of 1969?
does the report's statistics appear to be plausible given your personal observations?
*even though many others have copied and pasted the article (including the individual who created the page hyperlinked above), i'm apprehensive about doing so for copyright reasons.

I can remember reading that article for the first time back in 1969 and the affect it had on my family and the congregation as a whole. The sense of urgency was so potent, with everyone whipped up into a combination of great excitement and fear over events that were to come. These were the words of Jehovah's representatives on earth so MUST be right! Woe betide us if we were young, able bodied and not out knocking doors full time peddling WT literature when armageddon came!!
It is hard to believe they actually got away with stealing our lives the way they did, not to mention the intense disappointment and distress caused to thousands when the years passed and nothing happened, and money they had thought would last them until the end of the system ran out. Many of us young ones who were told we would never complete our education in this system are now pensioners.

JW women in critical condition after being attacked by pit bull while out in service

*** How Angels Can Help You ***
Do angels care for people and protect them? The apostle Paul asked: “Are they [angels] not all spirits for public service, sent forth to minister for those who are going to inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14) Clearly, the answer to Paul’s question is yes.w98 11/15 p. 6
The angels "sent forth to minister" to those poor women, mauled within an inch of their lives, must have been on a coffee break at the time then, more's the pity. Thank goodness one of Satan's worldly people happened to be around with his shotgun to save the day instead.

Levi Moore, an elder at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2626 N. Lewis Ave., said the women were volunteers who walked door-to-door ministering and distributing religious literature.
So there is no doubt they were JWs who were attacked. I like the way the word "volunteers" was stated by this elder, suggesting there was no pressure put on them to do this work, and therefore the WTS had no responsibility for their actions .
I remember when I was a pioneer, we were told to ignore "Do Not Trespass" and "No Canvassing" signs as they "didn't apply to us" . I experienced quite a number of close calls myself! I had my ankle bitten by a dog on one occasion, fortunately I had a huge brother working with me at the time who "saved" me. There were many times when the householder would be holding on to the collars of huge snarling dogs while we talked on the doorstep. I dread to think what would have happened if the dog had slipped its collar or the owner had let go their grip!!
There were loads of occasions when the teenage version of me was alone at the doors due to nobody being available to accompany me, or with another teenage pioneer sister, talking to dodgy looking men in various states of dress (or rather undress). One elderly man opened the door totally naked . But not to worry, Jehovah was watching over us so all was well .
It actually amazes me that we don't hear of more tragedies like this happening. What I would like to know is, what will happen if and when those poor women recover and find they are too traumatised to go door knocking any more? Will they be severely reprimanded by the BOE and warned of impending Annihilation by Jah at armageddon for refusing to go out in service doing this "voluntary" work? I wouldn't put it past them!

Are we all bitter?
by LouBelle ini posted a link on fb that lead to a topic here.
i then had one of my 'friends' start having a go about how bitter everyone is here....fact he said.
(he used to be a jw elder but left a while back, not sure why he left or if he has even researched the faith since leaving) the more i tried to reason with him that actually it is a support forum, the more he lashed out that everyone here bad mouths the jw's and only attack the jw's.

He gave me Nelson Mandela as a shining example - Mandela spent 27 years in prison as a terrorist - he was put there because he rose up against those that would oppress him.
Fair enough. Nobody could dispute that, but is it a fair comparison? Mandela fought for what he passionately believed in and he has never wavered from that belief.
It is completely different to waking up to the TTATT, that your life has been a lie. A con. To become conscious of the fact that you have been thoroughly deceived by a cult skilled in brainwashing techniques to fill your head with false hopes and dreams in order to use you as free labour for their own ends, regardless of the consequences.
How many victims of con artists are seen to just forgive and move on, putting it down to life's experience without a trace of bitterness? Not many I would imagine!

My decision about "family shunning"
by Gojira_101 insince i've been off work this week because of spring break, i've really been missing my grandma.
when i have left wt (i'm fading and april will be 6 months) and i told her about january, she has been shunning me.
i told myself "i will respect her wishes/decision..etc" this morning i woke up and said "to hell with shunning!

Gojira_101, I would suggest just buying your grandma a nice "thinking of you" card with a pretty picture on the front and write a few simple words letting her know you are OK and hope she is too. Sign it with love and kisses and post it.
No long letters at this stage, and certainly no mention of WT doctrines or any mention of the "shunning" word. Just a short and sweet sentiment sent with love. I don't see how anyone could take offence at that.
Good luck and let us know how you get on

Do you blame Jehovah, Yahweh, God, Jesus, etc. for the corruption of the borg?
by Fading Begins indo you hold god accountable for the corruption of the borg?
i've noticed there seems to be a bitterness, by some, that includes "god" in the equation, when discussing the borg and their policies, the governing body, elders actions, etc.
do the borg's transgressions originate with god, or does he feel the same disgust as we do?

If an organisation is set up and run by corrupt men then how could the blame be put on any one else other than the corrupt men in control?
As punkofnice said, there are corrupt men at the top filtering down. It is how it always was, and always will be for as long as it can keep going.
God, Jesus, Satan, Santa Claus - you would have to believe in any of them before you could start blaming them. In my case, I don't.
Edited to say, maybe I am being a bit hard on CTR as I think he was pretty genuine even though he had some wacky ideas. It was JR that began all the corruption in my opinion.

Hi stillstuckcruz. I am so glad to hear your family have not shunned you and sincerely hope it stays that way.
Roberta, I can understand why you might feel that way after reading some of the heartbreaking stories here on JWN. The things some members have had to endure are often unbelievably awful while others in comparison appear to have hardly suffered at all, but we are all different.
Please try to understand that there are many, many reasons to be here. We have all suffered in different ways and I am sure stillstuckcruz is no exception. I am lucky not to have been shunned by my family, but I struggled for nearly 20 years to come to terms with deep seated anger and resentment towards the organisation who robbed me of a proper education and a career (amongst other things). I found this site by chance and it has helped me so much.
Just to be able to interact with other ex JWs who understand what it is like to be raised in the stiffling confines of the WTS but have managed to escape its clutches is very reassuring and I have learned so much from the wealth of knowledge many of the JWN members have been kind enough to share with us all.

I agree Quandry . It is such a shame that those horrible comments are on this thread. I wish they could be deleted just in case she reads them. As if she hasn't been through enough already!!
I think she is really pretty and would love to have her looks!!
