Who do you consider as a friend ??

when we were witnesses every other witness was our "friend" ,but more often than not they were just aquantinces involved in the same religion as we were .

at the time i felt i would have given my life for others in my hall .

i tried very hard to be a good friend to others by showing personal interest in their lives and offering encouragement or help when they needed it ,but i never really felt a real connection with most .. i always wanted to have a friend and be the type of friend that could just stop by to shoot the breeze at anytime and feel welcome .

A friend is like a family member that you get to choose. Blood IS NOT thicker than water in my opinion. My family has treated me like a piece of dirt, and my friends have treated me like a daughter and a sister. They are there for me REGARDLESS of what my beliefs are, even when my beliefs disagree with their own.

I thought that I had that kind of friend in the org, but I have recently found out that I didn't. She puts me in mind of a robot. No real HUMAN emotion. Just programmed to do and say certain things, to come off as human, but if you tore away the skin, there would just be wires and circuit boards.

I mostly just wish that I wouldn't have met with them at all. It didn't matter what I had to say anyway, I think that they already had their minds made up. I wish that I had not answered all of their perverted questions, which were completely unnecessary, and I guess I wish that I would have told them that they reminded me of the Pharisees I had read about in the bible.

she told me that i needed to get back to the meetings because armageddon was so near.

i told her that if i serve jehovah, it will not be because i am afraid of dying at armageddon, it will be because i love him and have a personal relationship with him.

Ha ha! I like that Outlaw, you always have the funniest visual aides with your posts!

Right before I read your response, I was thinking to myself how angry it makes me that they use your own life to try to persuade you to do what they want. It is like a subtle version of a rapist saying, "Do what I tell you and I won't kill you."

Sylvia---Ha ha! That gave me a good laugh, I love it when people refer to a nutty person talking as "squawking"!!! And the voo doo spell is pretty laughable too!

Actually, my sister saying that to me kindof made me decide not to go back to the meetings. Because what she was saying was such a contradiction to what I have always learned in the ORG about the condition of your heart. How can they all use that argument when we are always taught to serve Jehovah because we love him, and that anything less than pure worship will be rejected by him. It is a blatant contradiction.

My sister visited me a few months ago, and she was on a holy roller, 'save my soul' kick. She told me that I needed to get back to the meetings because Armageddon was so near. I told her that if I serve Jehovah, it will not be because I am afraid of dying at Armageddon, it will be because I love him and have a personal relationship with him. She says to me.... "Just do it for the wrong reasons then, it doesn't matter why you start to go back to the meetings, your reasons will change. I started going just because I was afraid of dying at Armageddon, and now I do it because I love Jehovah so much!"

It made me a little sick. After all, we were always taught at the meetings that Jehovah knows our hearts better than we know our own. If that is the case, it really doesn't matter how many meetings I go to, doesn't matter how many hours I spent in field service, or how many magazines I place. If it is not out of a pure heart, Jehovah is going to know,and it is not going to mean anything. It will all be for nothing. Which, I guess would not be a big deal, if meetings and feild service made me happy, but they do not, they make me miserable. They have all of my life. No matter how hard I tried, meetings and service were a real drag. I started to think that I must be wicked inside. That Jehovah didn't see me as worthy to get any joy from serving him. I auxhilliary pioneered for years. Still, no big joy, and peace, and happiness.

Anyway, my question is, has anyone used the "Armageddon is right around the corner, and you should come back so you don't die" reasoning on you? What was your reply, and how did you feel about it in relation to what you know about God?

well i ran into him at the grocery store the other night ......why is it that my throat still tightens up and i get this anxious laugh when i talk to him ?

i want to be confident and assertive ,but ultimately i end up acting like a blubbering idiot !.

backstory is that he stopped by in december because i had put winter decorations out on my porch and he wanted to know if we were indeed celebrating christmas now .

I am sorry that you are having this dilemma, it is definitely a big one! I am having the same one as your husband, as I have family that still has limited contact with me, (but not completely cut off). I can definitely understand his apprehension. But I also understand the way you are feeling, I guess I have both yours, and his feelings about it. I was personally mistreated by the elders in my hall, so I would kind of like to tell them that I don't plan on playing by their rules anymore, and tell them all of the discrepancies in their doctrine. But on the other hand, I don't want to hurt my mother.

I definitely agree with Heartbreaker. Taking into consideration your husband's thoughts and views will strengthen your marriage. And that can't be a bad thing! If you don't mind my asking..... You mentioned that your husband stopped going to the meetings because he didn't want to go without you, what is his view now on WT doctrine? Does he agree with your findings about it?

What are some of the funniest things you've seen during a prayer, and you could'nt laugh out loud?

One time, right before the meeting started, my mother told me that she had a funny story to tell me, so I said "tell it." She said "No, because the meeting is about to start and you will laugh during the prayer." I said, "No, I will be fine, just tell me."

Quick background,,,, I was in my late teens when my younger brother was born, at this point , I am 22 and he is probably 5 or 6.

Mom proceeds to tell me that she was doing dishes, looking out the back window, and she hears my little brother singing, so she cranes her neck around until she can see him,,,,, he is skipping through the yard, with his pants down, peeing, and singing.

Needless to say, I did laugh, and I was sitting in the front row, and I tried so hard not to laugh out loud during the prayer that I gave myself a nose bleed and had to run, not walk to the bathroom! I still laugh about it just telling the story!!

have you ever noticed any bands/musical artists that overall you really just don't like, or even actively dislike/hate, but out of freaking nowhere they have this one song that is just so awesome it makes you wonder where in the hell they got it, and why they weren't able to go to that place again for equally good songs?

Oh, and by the way, I am in my mid to late twenties, so that is all from my teenage yrs. But I still really like alot of the stuff!!!

I love "Superstition"! I don't just sing, I have to dance too!

There were several songs that I liked alot about Silverchair. Many of my favorites were never released on the radio. One was called "Shade", another was called "Suicidal Dream", (a little dark, I know, but everyone has a dark side!)

Let me see, I liked a song called "Low" by a band named Cracker. It was sometime in the nineties, when I was first getting a real opinion of the kind of music I liked. I have heard other stuff from them, but nothing compares to "low". Also, does anyone remember a band called Silverchair? This is not really about the thread, I just LOVED them, and you never hear anything about them anymore.
