  Was the legend about Smurfs being demonic just an urban legend, or was it mentioned in the literature?

  i never heard about the smurfs being evil until i joined the forum.

  but when i look in the volume library, the word doesn't come up.

  i was wondering if anyone ever heard mention of it in the literature--as in, was it an official position?.

  As a child in 1983 I heard that two toy smurfs came alive and savagely bit a sleeping baby and then climbed out the window. It concerned me at the time that this crime could be pinned on two missing cuddly toys. I was told it by an elders son and wasn't allowed to watch the smurfs again. I never heard any of this from the platform or read it in a magazine because I was listening/looking out for it.

  A sister who was single for the lord (or until she found a decent brother) would tell other sisters that a brother would only approach you in conversation if he was interested. I never said a single word to her.

  I got councilled for "oscene jesting" when I told a joke using the word leprachaun on account of how it was a mythical creature. There were some very up tight JW's and I wouldn't have put myself in that category until I worked in a secular team where they ripped the p1ss out of me.

  JW's take themselves way too seriously considering they don't take what anyone else says seriously.

  Well, I Guess There IS One Good Thing About the WTBTS...

  if you're the kind of person who would rather convince yourself that someone isn't "deserving" of your help... which may include your money... even an amount as small as $3.00... the wtbts was the right group to be a part of.

  because they have every excuse under the sun for not giving to the poor... not helping out someone in need... not even giving a hungry one a meal (because we know, don't we, that every one of them is an alcoholic and/or drug addict... and everyone knows... particularly the wtbts... that those folks... those sinners... don't deserve to eat at all...).

  looks like some of have learned well from them.

  I don't rant often but here goes...

  While I was a JW I aided a local homeless charity to get national press coverage. I heard many many comments from JW's that were very sympathetic to the plight of the homeless - but would not do anything to help except point to the Kingdom. Clearly there will be exceptions - but few that I have came across. Imagine 7 million aid workers actually doing some charity work for a month? That would be pioneering... pity they're too busy storing treasures in heaven than doing any actual good for those less fortunate.

  The smoke screen of the WTS sending aid to disaster areas that JW's use so as not to have to give is frankly embarrassing. The WTS does give some aid, it's nearly always to help it's own and more as a PR exercise.

  Since leaving over the last few years I have been part of small teams that have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities, briefly worked in Africa and fully understand the costs involved in getting aid to people who need it. The small amount of personal commitment was a pleasure and just a snip of the effort that I put into being a JW (which was often far from a pleasure). I have not made any real sacrifice for charity in case it sounds like I'm singing my praises I'm just making the point that I know what I'm talking about and a lot can be done without huge effort.

  You don't have to help the homeless but help someone if you can. Any charity that you think is worthwhile. You don't have to do much but every little helps. Whatever you can, however you can.

  Afghanistan: The only country that Jehovah's Witnesses havent 'reached'

  my mother was telling me that the only country that jw's havent reached is afghaninstan?

  i guess it said this in a recent yearbook.

  if this is true, what are the risk entering into this country?

  and not forgetting the countries that have been supposedly reached...

  just because some stuttering teenager knocks on your door when you're busy and tries to give you some uninteresting magazines that resemble the big issue without the benefit of celeb endorsements - that isn't seriously "reaching" anyone. And there'll be a huge % of the UK population who haven't even had any contact with JW's. It's a farce despite all the hours they actually do.

  If he confessed it to two elders then they would be two witnesses to his confession so they would have had to act on it. Surely killing several people would demonstrate an unrepentant attitude? Even if it was before he started studying he can't use the excuse that he didn't know murder was wrong can he? Wonder if his wife had any idea?!

  Check the date out - xmas eve 1992, bet that letter was an xmas present the elders didn't want had it arrived quickly.

  Quite shocking and hardly protecting the flock.

  Nope, and when you see women standing outside the hospital doors puffing away whilst 9 months pregnant I'm glad I've haven't done anything to promote the killer habit.

  I wish I could say the same about the women inside the hospital doors signing no blood forms whilst 9 months pregnant. That's a killer habit I have promoted
