I've found in speaking to ex Witnesses that accepting AND donating blood are the two cult dogmas that are the last that are released.
i like to think that i have escaped the cult completely, since i, and members of my close family, faded away years ago.
however, i have recently realized that my "elder" uncle, my father's older brother, could technically have me disfellowshipped, such as if he figures out that i post on an "apostate" message board (i've tried to direct my cousin here), or sees me smoking in a restaurant in the small town we all live in, or hears from my father that my boyfriend and i have been away for a weekend together.. so i've recently discovered this fear.
although i believe i'm "out" i'm still trapped in a way.

I care because this one relative, my uncle, holds some cult power in his hands. I believe he is unlikely to put it into action, but it is academically scary in the way that he can, if he wants to, initiate a procedure that would make it uncomfortable for my "in" family to speak to me.

I agree with you, and I don't respect the "arrangement" and wouldn't attend a JC. But if I were DF'ed in my absence it would have an impact on my family. The point of my posting is that after so many years I am still somehow vulnerable to the Jehovah's Witness cult. I will die still being strangely accountable to them. This is tragic.

Thanks, my life is lovely, as is my current relationship with my family. I am however musing over how the Damocles sword of the cult still swings over my head. This isn't normal.
i recently started dating this guy, tonight he wants to come over and spend the night with me.

Woa. Stop texting him back. Or send him one last text asking what his real name is, see what he says. Then stop texting him.
A few words of wisdom. Never sleep with a man whose real name, age, siblings names, parent's names and parent's occupations you don't know, as an absolute minimum. And ALWAYS have the safe sex (contraception and sexual history) conversation beforehand, not ON the night but previous to the night. This serves the combined purpose of keeping you safe and cooling his one-night-stand desires if he's a total creep.
Ideally you should also at some stage have had a casual discussion (over dinner...... hope he's at least taken you for a night out?) about his relationship status and goals.
we all chewed on this article pretty well when the news first came out about the " overlapping anointed " concept , however we discussed so much on just those 2 paragraphs dealing with the new " generation " theory - that almost the rest of the article was overlooked .

Thanks, brilliant!! No harm in bumping up straightforward tools for new folks here to help their stuck family members to see the light. Especially since the new Overlap of Generations ® doctrine is about to hit the fan.
I believe that most current JW's don't care much about "deep" teachings..... even 607 goes over most people's heads. But "this generation will by no means pass away....." --- well, even as kids that was drummed into us. So I hope this reminder helps someone somewhere.
Fantabulous if it means you can speak to your family again while you begin your fade. If you're going to continue believing in the imminent apocalypse then.......whatever.
i heard a really bizarre comment at one of the recent meetings.
someone, in quoting this scripture, of course went with the usual doctrine of not marrying/dating someone who is not a jw.
but one woman took it even further, by saying that this applied even to people inside the congregation who 'weren't spiritual enough' or didn't have some magnificent spiritual goals in life.
There was one of the ANOINTED in a congregation that I visited ... She was one of the 144,000 ... and she got the answer to one of the Watchtower questions wrong. How is that possible?!
Closed-minded post, sacolton. If we're going to criticize this aspect of the organization let's do it on the basis of the bizarreness of the 144,000 teaching, not on the basis of one little old lady being a regular human.
