Christ, this makes me mad. People like this remain elders while I get thrown out and I never laid a hand on my wife...

"We're not going to make any more false predictions like we did in 1975!"... "...like we did in 1941..." "...like we did in 1925..." "...like we did in 1914..." "...like we did in 1874..."
(John Hodgman smile): "Trust me!" ;)

The worst thing that could have happened to the Watchtower is... the Watchtower.
Let's face it: They're their own worst enemy. Their own brainlessness and heartlessness is what has hurt them the most and will ultimately be their complete downfall unless there is schism or reform. "Apostates" and the Internet are merely collateral damage.

"Old School" Elders
by xelder inin the last few years that i served as an elder, and as i was discovering what the wts really was, the term "old school" would be used and it began to bother me more and more.
it was usually used to praise a person with a mean, unwaivering, dogmatism to an obselete policy.
a couple of times i would ask the person what he meant by the term.

Many have been praying for change in the organization, but from what I gather, the younger/new GB members are, ironically, more "Old School" than the old guard - if that's even possible. It doesn't look good.

Wonderful!
It's a frustrating thing with the WT... they will give a talk or print an article that is fairly balanced, uplifting, and thought-provoking... then they will pull the rug out from under you by blindsiding you with a statement of spectacular stupidity and heartlessness and inevitable reminder about the importance of the Faithful and Discreet Slave. It gets to be something of a game after a while, and most of us are to tired to play anymore.
I encourage you, while you still can, to continue to (for want of better word) "shop around" for a fellowship that speaks to you and is most spiritually upbuilding. For me, the closest thing I've come to a "best fit" was a Messianic Jewish fellowship. But that's just me.

LAST NIGHT..!
by iknowall558 ini finally went out on a 'ministry' work.
with a bit of help, i took all of my anti witness leaflets and put them through the doors of as many witnesses as i could in a 2hour time period.
it was the easiest and most exhilirating thing i've ever done.

Interesting to see how differently Witnesses treat others and are treated depending on the circumstances.
I was thrown out of my house, justifiably according to the WT, on charges of "extreme physical/sexual abuse" and "willful non-support" that were later dropped as being essentially bogus charges... after I was on my own, and, if memory serves, living in a homeless shelter. Of course, I was on disability after being suicidal and having half my intestines surgically removed...
But then, my wife is a respected elder's daughter... I'm sure that had nothing to do with it, though.
I would say that pretty much shoots the whole "JW unity" down in flames.
And the hell of it is, none of us, to my knowledge, have been disfellowshipped.
The Watchtower doesn't break up families? Have I got a story for you, friend.

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
by cameo-d ini felt this subject deserved it's own thread.. .
quote:.
this jesus character is recorded in two books of the bible as vandalising a fig tree for reasons that make absolutely no sense to me at all.. i have mentioned this stupidity a couple of times on this forum and the only attempt anyone had at explaining his actions completely ignored grammar and context.. .

The Fig Tree clearly foreshadows the release of Jehovah's Anointed from Babylonish Captivity in 1919. All you infidels can burn in hell.

I read a story like this. The stoning was not the end of the story, but I don't want to spoil it should you decide to continue.
I like how the leader of the rebellion is named "Stavros". Was that intentional? (Look up the etymology of Stavros, i.e. Stavropolis, Russia)
