Interesting, I went to several in the Kingdome and Tacoma dome. The bigger venues certainly make it seem like something important is going on. I wonder if anybody looked at traffic patterns in the area, I'm sure making it impassable will be a great witness to the citizens of Seattle.

Any Amateur Astronomers Out There?
by cofty ini have recently revived my interest in the night sky.
there are a lot of great sights you can identify with just a pair of binoculars.
i am currently relearning how to navigate my way round all the constellations and find some of the best objects.. i live out in the country so we get almost total darkness right outside my front door.

I had a four inch reflector as a kid, alas the mirror pitted over the years making it unusable. We're thinking of buying another telescope of some sort. I noticed last night that the moon will pass very close to Jupiter tonight, they'll be right overhead approaching midnight.
I hear you about about relearning to navigate the night sky. I've forgotten almost everything I used to know. Being a city dweller doesn't help, when I was young we lived out in the country.

BTW: anyone know if you can block TV channels?!
Simon, obviously I don't know what cable system you're on. I just looked and I can do it on Comcast (its a parental control code). I expect other systems have something similar.

Taking Back The Kingdom Halls.
by RunAsFastAsYouCan inthesis: the kingdom halls as a real estate entity could be couped; coup d'etat.
a group of 3 elders as trustees could sell the kingdom hall out from under mother watchtower corporation.
spread the money to the community or non profits, or just give it as a distribution to the congregation who paid for the kingdom hall.

The Watchtower has plenty of lawyers. I suspect that no matter how the land is titled the Watchtower Society has a lien against it, which would make transfer of title impossible without paying off the lien.
Edited to add, I think the society could also foreclose on the property if the agreement between the local congregation and the Society is breached. A few years ago a bank served my boss with notice that he was in default of his loan agreement due to crime in one of his apartment buildings. We were current on the loan, but violating other terms of the agreement is still a breach of the contract.

Next time I see a JW
by JeffT in'm going to ask a question:.
since you believe that people of multiple ages overlap to form one generation, why can't you believe that three dieties (father, son, holy spirit) overlap to form one god?.
might provoke an interesting reaction..

To be fair to the Watchtower, they aren't alone in buying into the idea that everything was great until the Archduke was assinated and then the world was plunged into war. It's a commonly believed narrative that just doesn't have a basis in fact. I think the idea grew out of wartime propaganda (both sides were trying to blame the other for destroying the nice peaceful world). If I remember where I read that, I will post a link.

Sometimes the real world gets in the way
by JeffT inas a few of you may have noticed, production of my fiction and articles stopped a couple of months ago.
since early november, caring for my 91-year-old mother has consumed most of my available time, energy and emotion.
i keep hoping that this will change, it does not show any sign of doing so.

As a few of you may have noticed, production of my fiction and articles stopped a couple of months ago. Since early November, caring for my 91-year-old Mother has consumed most of my available time, energy and emotion. I keep hoping that this will change, it does not show any sign of doing so. In the meantime, I keep noodling around with “Armageddon’s Prisoners,” and a couple of articles on business and religious subjects. The next chapter of “With Our Backs to the Wall” remains about ninety percent done. It may not help that I’m trying to write for two (or more) audiences at once, but when I have the personal resources it’s a good way to deal with writer’s block. If I stuck on one thing, I worked on another.
But writing requires a lot of mental energy. My head is full of characters and situations demanding my attention if they are going to grow. Even the care and feeding of alien invaders requires considerable work. For the moment, my creations lie frozen in amber, awaiting my return to the word processor. I hope to reanimate them in the near future, you will all hear about that when it happens.
