The gb simply looks at a given verse and then decides whether it can be of most use to them interpreted literally or symbolically. It's as simple as that.
Any verse that would cause doctrinal problems interpreted literally is, of course, interpreted symbolically. Consider "this generation". Once it became problematic, the word was reinterpreted in a symbolic sense.

Finally-Free, I had the same reaction when I first read the article. When I was in, it was common knowledge that the dubbies would remove a child from a hospital to prevent a blood transfusion. In fact it was a point of pride for them.

Armagedden Suitcase
by Magwitch inmy mother let it slip the other day that all the families in their hall are putting together a small suitcase.
inside this suitcase are to be things that you will take with you if given a 5 minute warning that the great tribulation is starting and you need to leave your home.
my father seemed quite embarrassed that this slipped.

Great point by trueblue and blondie.
(Mark 13:14-16) 14 "However, when YOU catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation standing where it ought not (let the reader use discernment), then let those in Ju·de´a begin fleeing to the mountains. 15 Let the man on the housetop not come down, nor go inside to take anything out of his house; 16 and let the man in the field not return to the things behind to pick up his outer garment.
The preparing of a suitcase is in direct violation of this scripture.

"This movement [Jehovah's Witnesses] has, unlike the Protestant Reformation, really sought to reinvent Christianity from scratch. Whether you regard that as a good or a bad thing, you can probably understand that it resulted in the Jehovah's Witnesses approaching the Bible with a kind of innocence, and building their system of belief and practice from the raw material of the Bible without predetermining what was to be found there."
This shows how IGNORANT Beduhn is about the JWs. Only an idiot would make such a blanket statement in the absence of any evidence to support it.
The entire Russell/JW movement was based on Russell's PREDETERMINED views on Christian doctrines such as the Trinity and Hellfire, and the NWT was created for the simple reason of supporting the movements PRETERMINED anti-Christian views.
If I'd had any respect for Beduhn I would have lost it when I read that statement.

"The great crowd is not 'in' heaven in the book of Revelations."
Actually......
After these things I heard what was as a loud voice of a great crowd in heaven (Revelation 19:1 NWT)
After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands....That is why they are before the throne of God; and they are rendering him sacred service day and night in his temple; and the One seated on the throne will spread his tent over them. (Revelation 7:9,15 NWT)

"Jehovah holds us accountable for our words"
I wonder if he'll hold the WT$ accountable for these words:
Jehovah's prophetic word through Jesus Christ is: 'This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur.'
the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away

underling++ = spirtuality++
by highdose indos anyone remember how the dubs used to try and show how spirtual they were by how much they had underlined their watchtower?.
this also happened to their bibles too, i saw one that was almost unreadable due to the mass of neon coloured highlighters and scribbles in the margin, myself i used to think "oooh they must be sooo spirtual!
" but really... how hard is it to agree with brain washing when your brain washed yourself?

A DF friend of mine is trying to get reinstated (for family). He approached the elders about it a couple weeks ago after attending meetings for six months. One of the reasons they gave him for their NOT reinstating him was that they had noticed his Watchtowers were not underlined........

Actually the Society even referred to themselves as "The Christ". Crazy that they'd do this in the face of Matt 24:4,5:
Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.
Accoring to the WT$, "The Christ" is themselves (the 144,000) plus the man Jesus:
The word Christ signifies anointed. Anointing means designation to official position in God’s arrangement. The Christ is the instrument or channel for the blessing of mankind. The Christ is composed of Jesus, the great and mighty head, and 144,000 members. ---The Harp of God, 1921, p 187
They are slightly more subtle about it in recent years - probably because of Matt 24. Now they refer to themselves as "the anointed" instead of "the Christ". Yet, as they acknowledged in the Harp of God quoted above, "Christ signifies anointed"; so the doctrine hasn't changed, just their choice of words.
