This thread and the one OnTheWayOut started the other day has sparkled my interest in that book you pointed to about the Tao, Awildflower (hello, by the way!), "Change your Thought, Change your Life". I've just googled Amazon for it and I'll be ordering it soon. Thank you, guys!

The Awakening
by AK - Jeff ina time comes in your life when you finally get...when, in the midst of all your fears and insanity, you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out...enough1 enough fighting and crying and blaming and struggling to hold on.
then, like a child quieting down after a tantrum, you blink back your tears and begin to look at the world through new eyes.. .
you realize its time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety and security to magically appear over the next horizon.. .

What a beautiful quotation, AKJeff! I'm going to cut and paste it and send it to my sister (still a JW) right away. She knows the "nuance" with which I'm sending it to her, but she can't say anything since it comes from a secular source...

Isaacaustin, did you read Dinah's comment? She also thought you were older! That makes three of us girls at least! Funny, isn't it? Your avatar is no doubt to blame. And me imagining you all this time as a cute respectable elderly man! You will forever be very dear to me, Isaac, since you were the very first one to answer my first thread, and you know what it is like at the beginning: shaky hands, frightened heart, taking my first jump into the unknown apostate world... And there you were welcoming me to the board. Seems like ages now, yet it was only a few months ago....

JWs growing in numbers despite opposition and criticism from apostates and other religious commentators. Why?
by african GB Member ini believe there are now over 7 million jws worldwide(correct me if i am wrong).
what makes this growth possible despite all the exposure on the internet and other media?.
not forgetting court cases and lawsuits.. is this not a sign that perhaps this is the true religion?.

Guys, I took African GB Member's question on this thread to be totally ironical. I wonder how come you didn't as well. Because it was ironical, wasn't it, AGBM?

Isaacaustin, how funny! Like Heaven, I also thought you were 60 or 65. Actually, till a couple of days ago, when somebody made a remark about your avatar, I thought it was you! Ha, ha!
I find it very striking and positive that most of us have answered, "I think every day about how happy I am to have left". Also, how few of us have jumped into doing really "sinful" things to organizational standards. Tuesday will no doubt clarify this much better, but so far at least we seem to have already shattered a couple of clichés...

Ex-Jehovah's Witness Survey...
by Tuesday inhey everyone.
another idea came to me tonight while discussing the pew forum survey about how only 37% of jehovah's witnesses remain in the religion from childhood.
the recent watchtower article where it says the majority of people who leave the religion do so in order to commit sin was brought up predictably.

Tuesday, count on me to answer your questions whenever the survey is ready. The questionnaire sounds pretty complete to me.

New here
by Stimorol ini've been lurking this board the past few days and reading a lot.. i'm a 30 year old male from an unnamed european country, i was brought up "in the faith" by my jw-parents (my father is an elder and was even the "head elder" (i guess that's not the proper english term, english isn't my mother language) for a while, although i believe he stepped down when i faded away, but was reinstated as an elder later.
i never really had any interest in religion or god, not even as a child, even with my perfect jw upbringing.
it always felt like a chore and i did my jw duties, but just the bare minimum i could get away with, living at home with jw parents (attending the 3 meetings every week, and going to do field work 1 hours on saturdays).. at around age 15-16 i got baptized, i was not directly pressured to do it but some hints were made by parents/elders.

Hello and welcome, Stimorol, from another fellow European (Madrid, Spain)!
You sound more than ready to set yourself free once and for all! Where did I read lately something like: "10.000 undeniable proofs won't work with somebody who is not ready to face the truth, whereas 10 words will suffice to somebody who is"? In my case, two or three days of research illuminated me like lightning after 45 years loving my religion. You seem to be just as ready.
You are going to love all these wonderful people on board! They cheer me up every day!

Did You Know A Lot Of "Very Intelligent" JWs?
by minimus inin my lifetime of knowing jehovah's witnesses, i recognized very few as being extremely intelligent.
most seemed to just go along with the program.. i noticed we have a number of "very intelligent" exjws here..

Minimus, just as you said: in my 45 years in, I've met very few witnesses whose intelligence made me open my eyes in amazement, whereas all I do nowadays is open them very big at the many bright minds on this board.
The question is: Why? Most of them, if not all, were witnesses before, and for sure just as clever. Or does intelligence "grow" after you leave and begin to think freely? What do you think?
