What religion would you recommend for those who want to leave the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inafter i decide to leave the jehovah's witnesses one day,i will not look for a new religion.
the damage that the wts has caused me leads me to mistrust all men and religion.. i trusted these men from the wts .
i gave up 35 years of my life to find out that the wts is just a printing and real estate corporation disguised as a religion.

There's no need for religion whether you believe in god or not, as far as I'm concerned.

Why are we repulsed at the though to consuming human milk?
by Elsewhere ini saw a story this morning about a guy who is making cheese using his wife's breast milk.. i checked a poll and 80% of people think this is gross.
i must admit there is a part of me that is repulsed too.
my scientific "geek" and curious side is intrigued and would want to try it... but then the repulsion kicks in again.

Porn - New study suggests it is good for society
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.physorg.com/news187448961.html.
could porn be good for society?physorg.com) -- the arguments against pornography are many, ranging from insistence that porn degrades women and is morally reprehensible to the assertion that pornography viewing is the cause of sex crimes.
however, over the years, there have been numerous studies done on this subject.

it's a great stress reliever (better than raping and pillaging..... )
I know some Vikings who would disagree.

TMI?
Nope! I know first hand that there's nothing more dangerous than a lactating woman with good aim.
TMI?

Anyone remember that scene from Me Myself and Irene where Jim Carrey latches onto the breastfeeding woman, and gets a milk mustache? HA!
And yes, as palmtree mentioned, it is sweet...

International Conventions - Have you attended any of them?
by Girlie induring my time in jw, i always had a desire to attend the international conventions, but never had the opportunity to do so because it was always extended to the elite class 1st (pioneers, elders, etc.
) and peons second.
in my congregation, the same pioneer sisters always hogged the opportunity, leaving others to only hope in the day they can go.

I attended one at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. I was very young and don't remember much besides the horrible heat as well as the rain. The attendants would actually cover whole sections of the crowd with clear plastic sheets, if I recall correctly. There were delegates from other countries in the stadium, as well as in a smaller stadium next door.
It seemed pretty exciting at the time.

question for Leolaia - when were the oral traditions that comprise the pentateuch committed to written form
by quietlyleaving ini'm quite interested in this subject at the moment.
i was reading that in some cultures when the stories, myths and traditions began to be written down the stories etc underwent transformations as they were now accessible for critique and for moral judgements to be added.. i'd like to hear your thoughts leo and anyone else who has anything to share/discuss.

Read Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard Friedman. He takes you through 200 years of investigation of not only who actually put these stories into writing, but when, and why.
Very, very interesting.

Why the Society needs to have an interpretation for every prophecy
by Olin Moyles Ghost inthe "prophetic" books of the bible contain lots of wild imagery and vague predictions.
for example, daniel describes various periods of 1260, 1290, 1335, and 2300 days.
revelation contains discussions of a variety of wild beasts, trumpet blasts, etc.

Nicely put; I think there's a lot of truth to the idea that this perpetuates the appearance of unity. Another aspect to it is the idea that "god's appointed channel" has the answers. It has to. "God's appointed channel", being led by holy spirit, can't "not know" something.
And when they come up with these off-the-wall explanations, applying prophecy to minor events in a minor religion, its adherents say, "Wow! Only 'god's appointed channel' could know these things!"
