Non-practising homosexual JW's
by Quillsky inas i understand it, being gay is not a sin in the organization, only homosexual acts are sins.
i've never read anywhere that gay jw people are encouraged to "fix" their gayness and marry.. i've certainly known a fair number of confirmed bachelor types who live exemplary lives in the witness sense - one life-long bethelite i knew springs to mind - but are clearly (to me anyway) gay.
they've all been in the closet though.. i wonder if any jw has ever been out of the closet, but not disfellowshipped since they don't have sex?

Ridiculous Talk Given By CO
by minimus inmy mother told me of the co giving a talk and telling everyone to get their hankies out because they would be sure to cry, which evidently some did.. a 5 year old boy was dying in the hospital and his parents were by his bedside.
he was drifting in and out of consciousness and then he opened up his eyes and asked his mother if he was a catholic.
the mom told her son he was not.

To athiests who hate God
by EndofMysteries inquestion, if this is true, in the book of enoch chapter 10:11-12, "all the sons of men shall not perish in consequence of every secret, by which the watchers have destroyed, and which they have taught, their offspring.12all the earth has been corrupted by the effects of the teaching of azazyel.
to him therefore ascribe the whole crime.
if that is god's truth, and your only accountable for your own wickedness and actions, would you feel guilty for your accusations against god?

So are you asking that if God's depiction as bloodthirsty in the bible is apostacy or false teachings as a result of demonic shenanigans, and I as a hypothetical god-hating atheist was such only as a result of these misleading scriptural falsehoods, would I feel bad for not liking god?
I think I see what you're saying, but I wonder why god would allow scriptures depicting him as bloodthirsty and vindictive to be kept in his holy scriptures? Why allow people to be deceived as a result of your own book? I wouldn't feel guilty at all.
But since I believe that the god as we know him/her/them is just a human creation, the point is moot. For me.

Or dire circumstances may exist so that a failure to provide assistance might result in disastrous consequences and
even bring reproach on the congregationIn other words, "Let's not allow things as useless as human kindness, decency, or family relationships cloud our judgment... but if we were to LOOK bad, THAT would truly be a tragedy".
This stuff makes me really angry.
Also hungry. Time for breakfast.

Another step towards artificial life: Evolution of molecules in laboratory
by bohm inhey!.
i just read this today, a professor gerald joyce has created small, very simple 'dead' molecules that are able to replicate themselves if placed amongst other dead molecules and (here it gets interesting) are able to accumulate mutations and become better at replicating themselves.
joyce estimate about 30 bits of information is passed along to each 'generation.

Bohm-
Very cool stuff, indeed!
well when he gets them to think and have a life of their own then we will take notice
I doubt that. We've already seen creationists in general (YECs especially) ignore and deny any and all evidence that doesn't fit their "coherent worldview". Too bad.

I'll have to take my girls to that soon, it sounds pretty good (for a girly kids' movie that I in no way would enjoy, you know...)

Bttt again. I know there's another thread about Eastern U.S. COs, but I want to throw a few names out there to see if anyone recognizes these:
Cunningham
Tim Friebus
Eric Hermanson
Ray Hayes
Frank(?) Hans
Terry Barnes
There are more, I'd have to really jog my memory...

Camera users beware
by IMHO inmost people use a camera these days (if only on a mobile phone) but be wary of using an slr camera at a convention.. i heard of somone who was stopped by 'security' and questioned as to why they were using an slr and implied that you may be taken for a peadophile if you do..

I don't get it. Do they think people are snapping shots of kids at the conventions? Why an SLR? They're kind of conspicuous, aren't they?

Hi Japster,
Sorry that people have been giving you a hard time... it's the internet...people get online and sometimes feel they can act any way they want because it's not face-to-face...
It's just people being people, for better and for worse... but a lot of people who post here are truly good. Why not give it another chance?
I for one would love to hear some of your experiences - being Jaracz's nephew, having lived in Japan... cool stuff.
