John 5
by dgp ini just learned that some versions of the bible contain the the comma johanneum, which is to say that they contain some text that was added later to john 5 as late as in the 1500's.
the text being as follows:.
5:7 "for there are three that bear record in heaven, the father, the word, and the holy ghost: and these three are one.. 5:8 and there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.".

A wasted life
by dgp inthe witness that personally concerns me moved to an area where she can no longer work like she used to.
though she can find a way to do for a living, she claims now that she is tired of the work she used to do, tired of how mentally demanding it is, and so on.
i believe this is no more than rationalization, as in "no, i didn't make a mistake; i don't really like my previous job".

How do they justify not having normal human interaction with non-believers?
by dgp inhow does the society justify not allowing its members to have normal relationships with non-jws?
if i were to argue that this smells of the way other religions, such as moslems or moonies act with respect to non-members, what do you think would be the way to rationalize it?.
thank you in advance.

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
by dgp ini'm reading god is not great, by christopher hitchens, and somewhere i found an idea that, on the looks of it, should be easy to discuss with a jehovah's witness.
the idea being that men are fallible, and men with absolute power will inevitably make use of that absolute power for the absolute worst.
history has shown this time after time.

Divorced women in the WTS
by dgp ini am not a witness.
if i have understood correctly, in the wts, a single woman is at a disadvantage.
the wts is male-dominated and a woman can only go up through her father or husband.

JW's and non-JW's
by dgp insorry, i forgot to add a title to my post.
so i'm repeating the post.. in another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/social/family/189023/1/interfaith-marraiges-and-children), balsam wrote this:.
...challenging her concepts, especially challenging the words like "unbeliever", or "worldly person", you need to point out to your wife those are words used to try and put a division between jw's and other christians or people of other faiths.... i know that jehovah's witnesses are told not to befriend (much less marry) people of different religious faiths, or no religious faiths at all.

but the people in the wts can but realize that not everyone outside is bad, and not everyone inside is good.

I and the Father are one. John 10:30.
by dgp ini'm not that good at quoting the bible.
i see no value in learning verses by heart, sorry.
however, i just learned that in the new world translation (the organization's bible), john 10:30, jesus is said to say "i and the father are one".
