I like quilts! One of these days I'm going to sit down and try to make one myself.

Are we being overtreated with Radiation?
by Snoozy injust read an article about the dangers of being over x rayed.. can't help wonder why it has been known all this time and is just now being warned against publically.. i also wonder if the new insurance laws going into effect have anything to do with it.. the government won't be oking costly xray's because it may harm you?
and save themselves a buck in the process?.
i noticed that when i go to the dentist they always cover your chest with a heavy vest to protect it from radiation..when you have x rays for other problems they don't always do it.

Snoozy, the dentist covers your chest with a lead apron because your teeth are being examined. Since approximately 70% of all x-rays are for chest problems, the chest usually isn't covered. It's just a protection from scatter radiation.
JeffT is right. The cost of a malpractice suit is what causes a lot of extra examinations while at the hospital.
Another factor that can cause multiple examinations is obesity. Techs try to set the amount of exposure at the lowest possible amount. Excessive weight means that higher amounts need to be used in order for the radiologist to be able to properly read the x-ray. Sometimes that means the techs need to take an x-ray a number of times, progressively increasing the amount. A friend of mine told me about one woman that came in that needed 11 x-rays done before a readable picture was taken.

I know, XPeterX, the only time that some people would talk to me was if I had missed a couple of meetings.
They would be all nosey about where I was! Then they would go back to ignoring me.

Ridiculous Comment By a Super JW
by mentallyfree31 ina few years back, before i had any doubts and when i was a hardcore jw, i remember a super-pioneer-jw sister was conversing with me.
i made the comment about some of my friends at work (all non-witnesses).
she stops me mid sentence and says "friends?

Frugal Ideas for a Beautiful but Inexpensive Wedding!
by StAnn inas i've proclaimed so loudly, my oldest son is getting married next year.
we have a small budget (about $5k) and they want a wedding with three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and a catered reception.
thus far, my son is going to load his ipod with music.

I found my dress on Ebay- it's not overly formal so I can wear it for occasions also. Plus it was under $100!
I told my bridesmaids to pick out any dress that they wanted to wear, it just had to be in a certain color group.
A friend of mine worked at a printing company, so she gave me her employee discount plus an early order discount.
She also bought a bunch of decorations from her company store that were very inexpensive!
If the wedding is in the early afternoon, you can just serve cake and coffee.

I'm glad my children don't have to grow up being afraid of cupcakes
by Ilovebirthdays inyesterday, i brought a batch of cupcakes to my son's school.
in passing them out, i started to give one to one of the children, who was a jw.
he immediately started freaking out and screaming "no thank you" over and over.

Ugh, the memories of being an outcast in school because of not participating in anything fun. I was a very quiet and shy little girl, and being so different from the other kids didn't help.
I'm so glad that I'm out and that any kids that I might have will not go through what I did.

The Writing Department's use of "Exclamation Points". Anybody else find their use cheesy? Or motivating possibly?
by miseryloveselders insomething i've been meaning to ask for a while since coming here, is wsup with the writing department's use of exclamation points?
i'm no literature buff or anything, but to me personally, the exclamation points cheapen whatever they're trying to get across.
here's some examples from the new jeremiah book.. how thankful we can be for the teaching done by christian shepherds!.

Can Jehovah's Witnesses accept blood transfusions in emergencies? WikiAnswers
by ThomasCovenant inwiki answers has the following answer.
only if the blood has been broken down into smaller parts that we call fractions.. firstly the 'faithful and discreet' slave are the 10 or so men in brooklyn that make up our organization's governing body.
these men, the 'faithful and discreet slave' class, tell us not to give or receive whole blood or four main parts of blood, based on their understanding of acts 15 and therefore we are obeying jesus' direct commands as explained in the following quote,.

Welcome to the board and thank you for sharing your story.
I recently ran into a woman that had attended my local congo when we were both teenagers. Her story was very similar to yours. She described feeling like she had been stomped on, crushed, mentally and spiritually raped.
She said that she was never the same person after that. It's so sad and infuriating that she was so damaged by events that happened half her life ago.
