Is there anything you could do forever that wouln't get boring?
by mynameislame innot sure when i came to this conclusion but i can't imagine living forever.
after a while i think i would be completly bored with everything.. not saying i wouln't like to live for a few hundred years or maybe even a few thousand if i could travel through space and discover other universes star trek style.
but the thought of living forever sounds like it would eventually become a complete drag.. maybe i'm wrong, maybe after a thousand years or so you would foregt all the stuff that happend at the beginning and just start over in an infinite loop..

Worst yb experience I have ever heard heartwrenching
by Skinnedsheep inhe sold his bicycle.
malachi, an elder who lives in burundi, earned his living by farming and by transporting loads on his bicycle.
in order to support their kingdom hall construction project, malachi decided to be at the construction site every day.

If you havn't its a brilliant film and shows the stupidity of our frined Malachi.
I think all the W.T cares about are members in the western world with money and this is a guilt trip...."
thats exactly the point of these (real or fake) stories...

Creation account in Genesis
by inbetween innew year, bible reading program starts again with genesis.. still being in, i have to "deal" with it somehow, but the first time reading the account with a free mind, this brought some thoughts:.
i remember, in some old creation or evolution book of the society, some scientist was qouted saying, that the order of creation in the genesis account is in line with science, that it could possibly not be of human source.. but when reading it myself, i thought, well it sounds kind of messed up.
for example, it claims, that the stars were made after even the plants were created:.

I remember, in some old creation or evolution book of the society, some scientist was qouted saying, that the order of creation in the genesis account is in line with science, that it could possibly not be of human source.
But when reading it myself, I thought, well it sounds kind of messed up. For example, it claims, that the stars were made after even the plants were created:
genesis 1: And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
ok, some try to expalin this away, by claiming that some kind of veil hindered the light of the already existing sun, moon and stars to shine through, but this is our interpretation in order to fit the genesis report into modern science. (see this site: http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/model.html)
There is also the claim, that the bible, even though no scientific textbook, when it touches scientific subjetcs, it is accurate, and written in a way, that normal people back then would understand it.
Now here is my point, how would a person of old antiquity understand the genesis account, or rather how would he, not knowing modern science, describe it?
Well, he would start with what he considers the big framework of creation, the heavens and earth. Then God makes light, maybe the sun (after the earth obviously, since it circles around it !) then he would put in plants (even to ancient people, it seemed obvious, that animals eat plants, therefore plants need to be first), then maybe the animals, oh and the stars, which circle around the earth again and so forth...
Now how ould a creator really describe its works to simple people back then ?
maybe something like, ok, I made the heavens with the stars, the sun, then the earth, circling around the sun, then, the plants etc...
Its not hard to express it in simple words and still acurrate, but today, believers have to find excuses, explanations in order to fit the creation report into modern science...

besty:
very interesting post, love it.
regarding OP:
Most JW, at least officially, obey whatever GB tells them.
I think, the difference is, how they feel about it. Take for example disfellowshipping: Some are really genuinely sad, that a brother or sister was lost to Satan, they will not talk to them, but they feel awkward and sorry.
Others again thrive of the punishment given to sinners, they feed their self righteous attitude, it puts themselves in a better light by comparison.
Another question is, why do people join ? The message, which is made clear early to bible studies, that most people will get destroyed at big A. Its one thing to get deceived into believing a happy future in paradise, but to think also, most people deserve eternal death the same time, does this attract ceratin kind of people ? maybe to a point, since most converts are ususally of the lower social rank, they have an axe to grind with scoeity in general. There are of course many exceptions to this as well.

While my first curiosity was, how they will now explain the FDS, there is nothing specific in this chapter.
However, in this weeks discussion, there is the following statemant found in lesson 3:
The time came for Jehovah to reveal the truth. He foretold that during ‘the time of the end, the true knowledge would become abundant.’ (Daniel 12:4) In 1870 a small group of truth-seekers recognized that many church doctrines were not Scriptural. Therefore, they began searching for an understanding of the Bible’s original teachings, and Jehovah blessed them with spiritual insight.
Wait a moment, according to the new light, the FDS was only established after 1918/19. What is his basic assignement ? To receive Jehovahs insight/blessing/guidance and to publish it to others.
How come this already happened with them in 1870 ? Did somebody up in heaven leak some information too early ? Is a Julian Assange among the angels perhaps ?
It really does not make any sense, but nobody as usual even thought about that, while it was discussed.... sad...

I guess I was ashamed of the JW religion...
by Jim_TX inwhen i was a kiddo growing up, i wasn't one of those that we all heard at assemblies giving their experiences... "here, let me show you the answer from the bible..." <reaching into their a** bringing out a bible>.
no, i would sit there in the audience, and think... that person has balls to do that.. when i went to grade school, i tried to keep as low of a profile as possible.
it was bad enough that i had to start the day by not saying the pledge of allegience like all the other school kids.

IloveTTATT: Ihad the same experience with psalm 37 many years ago, a well informed guy of protestant denomination brought it up, in his bible it was translated like "land" and he applied it to the land of Israel.
over the many years, this somehow stuck in my mind, but you know, Paradise earth is such a nice idea, hard to get over wishful thinking sometimes...

any body noticed the picture on page 11 ? the anointed shining brightly in the heavens ?
here: http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/?contentLanguageFilter=en&pubFilter=w&yearFilter=2013
If you look at the depiction, there are exactly 8 of them even shining brighter than the rest. Coincidence ? 8 GB members ?

second study article July 15th 2013
by inbetween inlast weekend congos around the world studied the second artcile of the famous wt 15th july.. it dealt with the prohecy in matthew 13 about the weeds and the wheat.. while they claim, that the gathering in the storehouse took place after 1914, the gathering to the kingdom of heaven will be right before armageddon.
what they did not mention, was when the resurrection of already dead anointed will happen.
why some of them shine brightly in the kingdom, while others are still on earth ?.

maybe they move the resurrection of the anointed also to the same time just before Armageddon. This would be another step away from the importance of 1914,
As discussed next week, the appointed over the belongings will also be moved towards the future. it seems important events are moved away from 1914. Maybe a step to get rid of it ? It gets more and more riducolous to claim , the kingdom is ruling since 1914, maybe they prepare the way to teach, that the rule of the kingdom is after the anointed are taken to heaven and therefore a future event ? Thats would spare them the argument about 586/607 dilemma.
Something is up, before 1914 becomes a date far away like 1799 was once...
oh and the last days, they are always convinient, because something bad is always going on in this world, we dont need the 2520 calculation, hardly anybody cares about or even understands...

well, another elder here, doing the absolute minmum without raising suspicion yet. Like to quit, but while working on my wife, it seems better to stay in "position". Over the time, i had some sucess, but not enough to come forward as "secret apostate".
While waiting for the right time, I try to get through time wasting meetings and FS. Meetings get interesting as i try to figure out all the fallacies, hypocritical statements and pure nonsense. In the meantime, i try to use the flip/flop of some WTS teachings for the advantage of some brothers. Fotunately our BOE is not hard core, and sometimes I could convince them to a more liberal viewpoint. Of course, all this is merely a little drop in the fire.
I still feel also gulty soemtimes, for even through my being in, still promote this cult. Then again, I feel like being held hostage, and have no other choice, if I want my family to remain intact.
