Best of Topics
by Simon insome people had a penchant for posting their topics directly into the "best of topics" area.
it seemed more than a little arrogant to me that some imagined their every utterance was immediately a greatest hit but maybe people weren't clear on what that area was intended for .... from now on you won't be able to start new topics there.
if anyone wants to submit a topic to be added there (perhaps an index to a curated list of other topics by a user or on a certain subject / theme) then just start one in "suggestions" and pm me and, if it is suitable, then i'll move it into there.. existing topics posted there recently have been moved to more appropriate areas..

Supreme Court Of Russia bans Jehovah's Witnesses as an 'extremist organization'
by EdenOne inread the news here.
the jehovah's witnesses lost their appeal to the supreme court of russia.
bethel to be liquidated.. i bet the gb saw this coming ... here comes the persecution complex paranoia.

This will just play into the persecution complex. Letters will be written, prayers will be conducted across the world and of course donations will be raised. None of which will make a difference to the JW's in Russia.

Is shunning unscriptual?
by MrTheocratic ininternational version 1 cor 5:11. but now i am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.
do not even eat with such people.. if shunning is wrong.
.how does one explain this scripture?.

Since when is waking up to the fact you were raised in a dishonest, controlling cult that ruins people's lives, destroys families and takes money from its members under false pretenses worthy of shunning?

Which Public Talks did you enjoy giving/hearing? And which ones did you dislike giving or hearing?
by humblepotato ini was just going through some of my talk outlines and i've decided to git rid of quite a few of them.
i'm still serving, but as time goes on... there are many subjects i will not teach anymore.. i got rid of the outlines dealing with blood, the field ministry, and ones talking about 607 and 1914. i can barely stand hearing them let alone give them.
in fact, talk 41 "stand still and see the salvation of jehovah" is one i got rid of because its whole point was about having blind obedience toward the gb and the elders during the great tribulation, and that we need to start practicing obedience now if we want to survive.

I used to love giving "The wonders of God's creation", I cringe at what I used to say now.

I just don't understand this, what am I missing???
by Greybeard inas i am watching this video about changes at bethel, the speaker said, "aren't we glad the faithful and discrete slave continues to make adjustments when necessary.
what about this change?
"finally, we examined why jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings did not occur in 1919 but will take place during the great tribulation" that is from this online watchtower article last paragraph: https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/w20130715/jesus-prophecy-last-days/ .

Challenge to Creationists
by cofty inin response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.
predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.
entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.

Vidqun....
As with all evidence for common ancestry and evolution there are many strands of evidence which come together to create a strong case for the emergence of eukaryotes.
The evidence that supports the theory that eukaryotic cells are the descendants of separate prokaryotic cells that combined by invagination resulting in a symbiotic union rest primarily with their physiology and structure. It specifically centres around physiology and structure of two specific organelles, mitochondria and chloroplasts which are similar in size and morphology to ancient bacterial prokaryotic cells.
Mitochondria and chloroplasts are clones of pre-existing mitochondria and chloroplasts reproducing by a type of asexual reproduction called binary fission, this a prokaryote bacterial trait and not the eukaryotic method (mitosis). Why would two systems of reproduction occur within a single cell unless these organelles have a different ancestry from the nucleus?
The membranes of the chloroplasts and mitochondria have different chemistries within their membrane systems. Mitochondria and chloroplasts possess a double membrane the outer membrane corresponds to the membranes found in prokaryotic bacteria whereas the inner membrane’s chemistry is of a different chemical composition very similar to that of eukaryotic bacteria.
In these organelles the enzymes and inner membrane systems resemble prokaryotic inner membrane systems whereas outer membrane is of similar composition to the plasma membrane, and other organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum or nuclear membrane of the eukaryote. These chemical mismatches are most readily explained by the theory that prokaryotes were absorbed and formed a symbiotic relationship.
Finally mitochondria and chloroplasts have their own DNA resembling that of bacterial prokaryotic cells and they also possess their own ribosomes which also resemble bacterial prokaryotic cells: The DNA of mitochondria and chloroplasts is different from that of the eukaryotic cell in which they are found. Both types of organelle include circular, not linear DNA, a characteristic of prokaryotes.
