Michael Brown verdict discussion policy
by Simon init's likely that the grand jury verdict on the michael brown incident will be released in the coming days or weeks.. i've no doubt many people are going to feel strongly about things whatever the verdict is.. whatever the outcome though, here's what's not going to happen:.
we're not going to put up with inflamatory language and comments designed to rile others up.
be respectful.. we will not allow accusations of racism simply because some have a view of the verdict that contradicts others.. there will not be invented evidence or claims being repeated - if it's been falsely reported or debunked then it's off limits.. it's not going to be an opportunity for people to air past gripes over past discussions.. if you feel that you cannot discuss the subject in a rational way then it may be better to simply avoid any topics on the matter.. please try to be objective and respectful if you do decide to comment and not keen to take offense.

Examining Genesis . Would your JW's ?
by Phizzy ini was talking to a jw a short time ago and it emerged in conversation that he believed in the literal truth of the bible's first book, genesis.. no great surprise there, but he said something pertinent, he said, "if you don't, then the whole of our belief falls apart".. i was wondering if this may be of use to those who are endeavouring to "wake up" jw family or friends.
a proper examination of genesis could be encouraged in a gentle way, raising questions the j.w's must answer, ( you may have to insist they answer them, not shove them aside as they love to do ), and eventually they will have to get to the point, if they are at all honest, that genesis is simply not literal truth.. then, their whole body of belief is undermined.. simples !.
well, the idea is, the execution may be impossible, but i just thought the idea may be helpful ?.

Jesus the Redeemer makes no sense without Adam the sinner, that's the Gospel according to Paul and his theology. JWs and Evangelical Fundamentalists know this and quietly tremble at science.

The Officer calling for the other patrol car was professional. Waiting for the other officer(s) to arrive would have been the better professional course. More nonviolent tactics could have been employed in first questioning Michael Brown and if necessary taking him into custody with several officers present. I am 6'4" 220lbs. if I was confronting a person 6"8" and 350lbs. I would wait for backup patrols. Officer Wilson looks about 5'10" and 175lbs..
The public was not in imminent danger, there was no apparent reason to rush things.

And those are the details showing why the officer should have waited until the other patrol vehicle showed up per request. It could have been handled so much better professionally.

The more the local police departments militarize the more the public will naturally be repulsed by those images. Police Departments need to be a friendlier Protect and Serve presence in communities, a resource you go to as needed rather than be viewed with suspicion and fear.
We have seen the cycle of corruption in Police abuse-Court trial-to Prison in several States and cities across the Nation. Several Judges and Prison Wardens and staff have been taken down in recent years. That image filters out into the community. If you get arrested and have the suspicion that you are going to 'hang yourself' in the city jail you may well bolt from custody.

What I read is that other developed countries around the globe have far less Officer shootings of suspects. Something is different, something in the training, something in the culture, somethings we as a country we need very much to assess in order to have far better outcomes.

I would have been 'ok' with the officer doing many things differently than he did like calling for another patrol car, using a loud speaker to get the young man's attention, just talk to the young guy for awhile. So many developed countries around the globe handle these incidents so much better than us.

Does Modern Day Israel Observe Sabbath? Anyone know?
by objectivetruth indoes anyone know if modern day israel observes a type of national sabbath?
if so for how long have they been doing so?
thanks for the info.. .

The Orthodox certainly do and if you go through their neighborhood on the Sabbath watch out. There is a big debate and several laws drafted by the Far Right Religious Party to make the Sabbath a National Day. You can shop in Israel's 45 shopping malls on any Sabbath, they are secular places to hang out.

Shunning Disfellowshipped & Apostate family Members. Scriptural?
by objectivetruth inanyone who is a witness or was previously a witness, is aware of the written & un-written rules concerning association with disfellowshipped family members.. there are a multitude of quotes through out the watchtower publications, but these 2 will suffice.. "are you proving yourself holy by not associating with family members or others who are disfellowshipped?
"the clear instruction in the bible is: avoid them.
that means that we have to stay away from them... the bible says that apostates are mentally diseased and that they use their teachings to make others think like them... what must we do to avoid false teachers?

Paul established Shunning. Jesus was just prejudiced.

Is the WTS effectively 'pimping out' sisters?
by Simon ini can't remember the topic with the discussion about the talk where they suggested that sisters should only consider ministerial servants as potential marriage partners but think about the implications more.. are they trying to use the potential affections of sisters to enourage brothers to do more and work harder?.
isn't this a form of 'pimping out' the sisters by limiting their attention to the people contributing to them?.
it seems to cross a line to me but i guess it's not vastly different to "only marry another jw".. what do you think?.
