I almost coverted as an adult, not that long ago, and I can still remeber exactly what it was that 'sparked my light bulb'. I was reading in a WT book that Abraham knew and used the name Jehovah- but I was reading and do a study on the exodus at the same time (this is how I learn- I cross reference back and forth between sujects- ALONE), I came across a passage that clearly stated that even Moses was unawear of 'god's name', that jehovah (or Iam) was known by this name to Isral or the Egyptians at that time, Moses asked for the name and was the first to make the god of Isral known to pharoh by this name- so my first thought was, how in hell did Abraham 'know' god by this name if even Jehovah had not told 'his' name or made himself known by that name untill the exodus I smelled a rat- I got online for the first time in 12 months to check 'other' sorces of information- I resigned myself from any further study or association with the WTBTS less than 3 weeks later. I have been left alone by the local cong since... they did tell me that I wouldn't be shunned as an apostate as I was not baptised- but I have had sisters from the KH cross the street to avoid saying a casual hello to me (that would lead to a converstaion and conversations lead to friendships forming... Yeah I read that shit on how to treat a DF'd person too just before I left!)

The first half of this artical read just like a watchtower- I was almost expecting questions at the bottom of the page!
What happen to and within this family is just terrible! but the fact that the writter of this artical used this sad story as a plug for the WTBTS makes me sick and angry!

I've lived all over the east coast of Oz, my mother has the 'walk about' gene! I think I inherited it also, but I go for holidays insteading moveing house from state to state! My husband and I have been talking about going back to Katherine for a long holiday but are just waiting for the oppertunity to do it. The only thing I dont miss about that place was all the tourists plus some of the locals! The major Jim Forscott (spelling??) greeted me on my first day in town and was surprised to find out that Iam his cousin's grandaughter- aparently Iam related to half the population there (Tapps etc...), small world hey?

Did Jesus ever claim Messiahship?
by AK - Jeff inin her book, introduction to christianity, mary jo weaver says this:.
"some christians think that jesus was so clearly the messiah that no one could fail to recognize him as such...... christians who see jews as a 'problem' might be surprised to learn that jesus has been a continual puzzle for the jews.
medieval jews tended to picture jesus as an apostate jew, a man who had lost his faith; 19th century jewish scholars had an image of jesus as a great ethical teacher.

I didn't miss the point of 'the gospel message' passwordprotected- the message that Jesus preached was simple- love god, love thy neighbor... The Dali Lama also preaches such a message today... I recognise both as being wise and spiritual teaches of sorts, both have lived lives worthy of admiration and concideration. For me being a deist means I have the privaledge of not being restricted to just one doctrine/dogma/teaching/gospel/truth... I can draw inspiration from as many different writings, books, pictures, natural surroundings and people as I wish on my personal journy to enlightenment.
If it is a 'sin' to seek true enlightenment and I had to leave blind faith and revealed religion behind me to become a wiser person, then I am as guilty as all hell and need to spanked imediatly! but I do not feel that asking questions and paying close attention to all the facts is a crime! I am simply as the Christians say- "making sure of all things" and as the buddists say- "be careful, only a fool would test the water with both feet!".

Where I can find information on South Australia court case, where a JW sued his KH and the WTS after breaking his leg in field service?
by LUKEWARM in.
from memory a newspaper article reported on this some years ago - it involved the jw trespassing on private property, being knocked over by a goat, the homeowner being sued and having to pay damages to the jw.. initially as the jw sued his congregation, the wts defended the kh and itself with the statement that jw's are not required to go out in field service and that the ministry work is purely voluntary.... can anyone point me to a link?.

I cant help you, but if you can remember the name of the newspaper- writing to them and asking for a copy of the artical cant hurt, also try your local library- most libraries in Australia keep old newspapers and articals on file....
I remember reading about two young mormon boys being feed hash cookies by a guy in Wodonga VIC about 10 years ago (I was living there at the time but it was NOT me I swear!lol)- Im still laughing about it

Hey Brin
Iam in NSW- But I did live in Katherine NT back in 2001-02, stayed for 14 months then came home....
After reading a few of the earlier posts on this thread- I recken an Aussie Apostafest sounds like a great idea- Brisbane is probably a good spot to do it, it's half way between NSW & NT and the night life is great! I had a 24hr night in the Valley for my 21st- wish I could remember most of it LOL!! (plus I have a free couch to sleep on there! family make great motels dont they?)

Leolaia- I love reading your posts
AK-Jeff, great thread- thankyou.
Whether or not Jesus was/is the Messiah is not important to me- if he only said and did half of the things written about him, then he was a great man, much can be learned from his simple messages of love and much can be acomplished by following his examples- I have many freinds who call themselves ChristianDeists (but I'm going to start a different thread for that).

No, it's the WTBTS causing it! just think how much carbon their bible factories emmit, and dont forget how many trees they have to cut down for their paper usage- bibles, notes, reports, tracts, mags, kh invites to the memorial, books, speach cards, diarys etc.... but at least they dont waste it on birthday and christmas cards!
