I recall a reliable poster (who will not be named since the topic was removed to protect privacy) posted a few months ago about hearing that the WTS had been financially downgraded. It hardly seems like a coincidence!!!

We need some more confirmation. On another thread someone said that they were going to suspend LARGE projects such as AS halls, bethels, etc. The "big announcements" was in the main about kingdom halls IIRC.
This is super awesome news and it seems to be confirmed from multiple, independent sources that Big Things are happening. It would be super nice with a thread about things which has been confirmed by reliable sources.

i knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.

Why bother creating all the other galaxies?

a thought occurred to me... the universe is so huge and full yet most of it cannot be seen by the naked human eye.. while jw's could claim that god created the stars to look pretty/ for navigation... what about the rest that cannot be seen?
the huge never ending mass of universe that the bronze age writers of the bible had no idea about?.

It is one of those points that are so obvious and uncontested that it is often missed it is evidence against a christian world-view. If our universe only contained our sun (or our sun and a few more stars) it would be a great mystery why our planet was suitable for life; that is on theism we can have a single sun or billions of sun, whereas on naturalism we expect there to be billions of suns. The many galaxies we see is then evidence for naturalism.

Imagine you live near a lake. At some point you detect lead in the lake and you notice your friend upstream is putting out a lead-containing compound in the lake.
You tell him to stop because he is making the lake toxic. He says: But lead is a natural compound, you should expect to find it in the lake.
So you show him the amount of lead has been increasing for the past months closely correlated with the amount of lead he has put into the lake.
So he says: But that's not proof. It might be some other source of lead which is poisoning the lake. So you show him computations which show the amount of lead he is putting into the lake relative to the body of water can be expected to increase the amount of lead in the lake.
So he comes back with a glass of water and tells you: Look, no lead in this water. So you ask him where he got the water from and he says he got it right near a small stream leading into the lake after a rainfall. So you tell him your claim is not *every part* of the lake has gotten more lead in it, only that on average the amount of lead has gone up.
So he tells you how you can know that lead is bad for life in the lake? You show him medical evidence for this. He tells you that if the lead is bad for the fish, it's also bad for the mosquitoes, and that's good insofar he is concerned.
Then you give up trying to convince your neighbor and accept the lake will be poisonous.

Scientists are aware the earth is not static. That's why they have tried to quantify how the climate varies, for which reasons and by how much for the past 60 years. The conclusion is the CO2 content of the atmosphere is very important, and humans are increasing the CO2 content dramatically; you can then build models around what the impact of the added CO2 will be and compare to past historic trends. The conclusion is the current warming is caused by humans.

For all newbies, look at this graph. Suppose you had hired someone to invest your pension funds somewhere and this graph was showing your total pension funds over the past 5 years, would you say you were getting richer or poorer? Would you say he was doing a good job? Would you consider withdrawing your money ASAP before he blew it all away?
According to Perry, the trend is actually up. If the above graph was showing your pension funds, you should be very happy since you were getting richer. Why? Because in 2012 it was lower than it was today, so it is going up.
If you buy this argument, I have an awesome investment opportunity for you...

Debating evolution, intelligent design and cosmology with a JW
by Thestumbler83 inive been having an email exchange with a jw family member and the discussion seem to have become a bit heated and im not quite sure why.
i dont think ive said anything obviously offensive and ive been very careful with my wording.
but i think im sometimes a bit tone deaf with these things.

You could read the book "A manual for creating atheists"; just be aware some parts of it is pretty preachy and hard to stomach, like that the author supposedly had a debate with himself if he should argue his dying mother out of Christianity(!).
