Romans (those pagans) seem to have thought so.
They made the Samaritans have their Temple dedicated
to Jove... Jupiter from "Deus Pater" (God the Father).

the wt prides itself on closely following first century christianity, well, at least preaching.
the bible indicates that christians met in homes, often presided over by the owners of those homes.
they are now commonly called house churches.
For some Witnesses the Family Worship Night is turning into a mini bookstudy.
Some people are getting together, sharing meals, doing Bible readings aloud and freely commenting.
That sounds a lot like a First Century House Church doesn't it?
My parents don't go for that, but we don't have a "regular" FWN anyway.
Dad's too busy with 'other' theocratic stuff and Mom is too tired.
.
i'm not.. as we used to say, "he looks like ned in the first reader to me.".
sylvia.
I'd have a beer conference with him and Biden anyday!
...and yes I'm 21
i don't go to the meetings anymore for i am fading, but a short while ago something happened in a meeting i'd never seen in my entire life as a jw.
the local needs discussed the fact that the local branch had bought a new kh for a whopping 1 million euros.
that's insane, but not the part that got me.
Yeah! It's happening in this area too.
In our congo the pubs were expected to write down how much they could give on a monthly basis.
Now after a couple of years of the numbers not adding up and meeting expectations, there are
local needs talks reminding the pubs of their "yes" meaning "yes" and "no" meaning "no" and
that they promised a certain amount each month.

i saw the videos and started thinking about the "law of attraction", just recently someone mentioned.

I saw the videos and started thinking about the "Law of Attraction", just recently someone mentioned
to me the book "The Secret". Here's two YouTube videos that summarize the main points:

My question to everyone who'd like to comment here on JWN is ...
What are your thoughts on the principles of New Thought and Unity Christianity?
Wow Yknot!
At my congo they made a brief announcement about being able to order now and there's a letter(s) on the info board out back.
The letter didn't get posted till the next meeting. It was never read just posted.
People come to the litterature counter and the brother puts their name in a regular sheet of paper with pencil drawn columns.
It seems like they take too much trouble about it at your congo, or is it in mine they just are too laid back?
There was no mention of Bible bindings or anything such, just that it's also time to order calendars, daily texts and bound volumes.
when i was still in the cult i reckon i spent 90% of the meetings/assemblys mentaly asleep.
at one time i did try to concentrate on the talks, but just kept drifting away.
i even perfected the art of looking intently at the speaker while mentaly thinking up to-do lists, shopping lists and composing emails.. is it just me or not?
How true! But I'm even practicing sleeping through the meeting with my eyes open.
It worked during the convention on most talks. Only to be woken up by the clapping.
YAWWWWNNNN!
i was reading this on the forum for bible students where there seems to be some elder training that will focus on conscience issues and disassociaiton instead of disfellowshipping.
this makes sense from a legal standpoint because there would be no jc but interesting enough, how would someone become disassociated and then shunned?
if shunned would this then place the legality of it all back onto the family members instead of the elders?
BTW ..... it was Iloowy who made those statements in Sammie's quote here on JWN !!!!
I miss Iloowy's postings on JWN
Bless you, big kudos for you Yknot!
Thanks for finding the original post. Illoowy is active in other forums.
I think if you ask about Illoowy in JWN you get in trouble and people
tend to say abusive things to anyone that asks here. Why don't Simon
and the mods give a reprieve to people... do they expect some repentance
or something before people get back on JWN?
There's a lot of people gone. I miss Bonafide on JWN too for example!
