The Protest Saturday June 25th 2011 from 7 am until 1 pm in front of the Pepsi Coliseum In Quebec city against the Watchtower is getting lots of attention on the Internet.

One of the great things about the interenet is that you can hyperlink to content all around the web with nearly no effort at all. If you really wanted to make a point, you would have linked to relevant social media: blog posts, youtube videos, facebook pages, google groups, etc. demonstrating all the attention this protest is getting.

It is easy to do! For example, searching for "JW Protest in Quebec" on Google can quickly demonstrates how much attention the Quebec protests are receving:

Look at that: 3 relevant hits. 3. And one of those 3 is this thread... critising your post. The other two you no-doubt started yourself as well.

The 'garden story' is equivilant to this:

An adult (being of supposed superior knowledge and experience) decides to put a handgun in a child's room, and instructs the child not to touch it.
Another adult (being of superior knowledge and experience) enters the room and tells the child that the first adult was wrong, and that it is ok to play with it.
The child, being naturally curious, plays with the gun, and shoots himself.
The first adult returns, and blames the child for the whole thing.

Certainly not what you would expect from a "wise and just god".

Of course, when you get to the part where god prevents the children from re-entering the garden by use of a spinning sword - a human weapon that had not yet been invented by man, and something Adam and Eve would not recognize or understand on sight - it exposes the story for what it is: a myth.

Good information. TV often fools us into thinking we know what to do or what to look for.

After hearing about the "120k a year" southern Californian lifegaurds are earning.. I looked into this a bit.

The people who are angry/outraged at the salaries are simply uninformed idiots who don't do their research. Being a real lifegaurd is a far cry from the BS you've seen on baywatch. Southern Californian Lifegaurds are the Search and Rescue of extremely crowded beaches - watching over thousands of people for specific signs - and they are expected (and expect themselves) to respond to situations that demand careful observation, peak physical condition, timely response, and extensive paramedic training is required to save lives.

I think a lot of morons hear "life gaurd' and assume someone sitting in a chair spreading sun-tan lotion on themselves all day. The reality is that even with training there are probably less than 0.01% of Americans could even remotely qualify for the job.

this is very difficult to write (forgive me for any spelling mistake, i am not a native english speaker).. i cannot tell my complete story on this board - i eventually will, once i have broken the last "link in the chain" that has kept me captive to the borg.

i can't tell my story, because.....basically i will be known.....as a more or less "famous" jw..... i have been lurking this site for many years, wrote here under another name - this eventually was found out and i had to do "damage containment".

i had to "go back" and tow the party line....all my family (extended and close) are witnesses, all my "friends" and even work & business relationships are jw.

I agree with aguest (although, I'm still convinced she's venusian, hehe ).

If your wife is so 'sickened' by you asking questions that she throws up.. that is that is cognitive dissonance in action. "Reality" is in such disharmony with watchtower bullshit land that she is basically 'pretending' to be sick as to gain sympathy and excuse herself from reality.

I would suggest you politely ask her to grow up. Ask her if her faith is so vulnerable that simple, honest questions can blow it down and send her hugging the toilet, what exactly is her faith built upon?

What reason is there to trust the bible?

What bible prophecies are unquestionably true?

Are there any bible prophecies that have not come true?

Who selects the "faithful and discreet slaves"?

Do slaves ususally command others to follow them without quetion?

What facts are Jehovah's Witnesses teaching about education and the theory of evolution?

Personally, I have come to accept that my family are JW's. I don't think there is a 'one size fits all' world view. Some people are mentally prepared to face the reality that we grow old and die, and that is that. Others just aren't. But one thing my family does recognize is that I am by no means stupid, nor 'led by satan'. There are completely legitimate questions about the world and life that the bible, and especially the watchtower corporation completely fails to answer.

Respect yourself, and your right to ask legitmate questions. Don't let the WT take your human dignity away with their mental illness.

Take a deep breath.

Research the points that have made you realize that JW's are not the truth. Arm yourself mentally.

Do not be intimidated by JW's or by elders. They are intellectual cowards, and with truth, can be cornered as liars and manipulators.

Since the beginning of time men and women have had to arm themselves to fight the good fight - to fight for freedom, justice, and truth. That is the battle you fight against cults like Jehovah's Witnesses. Prepare yourself, and be ready to call bullshit bullshit. If someone tries to label you an apostate - be ready to respond. "Apostate" is a label they try to use to discredit someone without having to acknowledge legitimate logical points of debate. They have the short end of the stick, and they know it - so they have to resort to lying, slander, and character assasination against those that have a rational argument.

Buy a little time, think, and prepare. Educate yourself on logical faulicies. Come to understand watchtower propaganda and the 'chinks in the armor'. You may not be able to save your wife or child - but it may be worth a little extra effort.

Use the recent example of Harold Camping to your advantage. We have a modern-day prophet who mirrors Russel in dozens of ways. Use him to enlighten those around you.

Find points of agreement. I've found that even my blind-as-bats JW family are cringing at the pope-like "follow us without question" thinking of men that the current governing body is spewing. There seems to be room for reasonable doubt even amoung JW's if you express a desire to "follow god rather than men" when "men" are calling for unquestioned devotion.

I understand the desire to just throw garbage away when you recognize it and be done with it - and honestly, that's what I did myself, as it didn't cost me anything. But considering the watchtowers recent steps in the direction of giving glory toward men instead of god.. there may be room to express a reasonable opinion.

(At the same time, if you're personal safety is in jeapordy - best to get out and fight another day. The Watchtower is but a single snare in a large minefield for trapping mankind called 'relgiion".)

I pity people who can't see the beauty in creation. They can't see what their missing out on. Let them sulk and be miserable.

Ironically, much of the beauty of nature could never have been seen without science to provide the tools to observe that beauty.

For example, it is impossible to see distant galxies, nebula, or star clusters by gazing up into the sky with your naked eye. We only see a tiny portion of the milky way with our eyes. To really explore the universe, you need telescopes - which requires an understanding of optics and the physics of light (science).

If not for science, religious people would literally miss-out on seeing the universe. Our primitive vision forbids us from seeing so many things.

Beyond that, thanks to science and technology, we have high-definition digital cameras that can capture nature's beauty, and preserve it. All of the beautiful pictures above would not exist if not for science and technology.

Sulk and be miserable? The beauty of nature is that it extends beyond what we see at first glance. There is beauty in that the deeper you look, the more you find. I think it's religious folk who miss out on the beauty. Too eager to shrug off everything they don't immediately understand with a shrug as "a mystery of god", instead of taking a real look.

Religious folk are content to look at the stars. It was science that showed us the infinate beauty in it.

Why all religious loonies appeal to our feelings instead of appealing to our logic?

Thanks to astronomy, we understand the seasons, and why they happen. We understand how birds fly, the physical forces involved, pressure systems, and fluid dynamics.

Thanks to geology, we know what volcanoes are, and how the work. We understand plate tectonics, and even the nature of the inner earth.

We can throw away superstitious ideas such as volcanoes being 'gods', 'acts of god', or open gateways to a fiery "hell" beneath us. We realize all those ideas were based not on fact, but fiction.

Lightning. All phases of the Moon.

Thanks to meteorology, we now know that Lightning has nothing to do with god - but is the release of static electricity generated from ice and water particles colliding. We've come to understand the nature of electricity so well that it is a cornerstone of human society. There is scarcely anything we do in our day to day lives that doesn't involve the use of electricity.

Thanks to astronomy, we know that the phases of the moon are as simple as light striking a sphere. Such knowledge has freed us from the burden of superstitions, such as astrology.

Tornados, hurricanes. God's Feasts and Fury.

Thanks to science, we are improving our understanding of violent storms, climate patterns, and how to best predict and prepare for them. We know that weather is caused by changes in temperature and pressure in our atmosphere, fueled by the sun. Storms do not occur at random, nor are they caused by 'gods'. Although large and complex, there are physical, observable and measurable mechanical systems that govern storm systems.

I won't bore you anymore with these few Gems and Jewels of Yahweh and his magnificence, but our modern technological (no how) is keeping us in near absolute ignorance.

Yes, please stop boring us with your "Gems and Jewels". Anyone reading can compare how much actual ignorance is in this post compared to explanations that extend little further than "God's Fury'" and "God's Silence".

You openly plea for ignorance in your opening statement - "Find contentment in the fact that God is silent on some things." Then you try to suggest that scientific methodology - asking questions and seeking answers, seeking knowledge - somehow amounts to 'absolute ignorance'. Fail

There isno need to spell this out (it's "know-how", by the way) - readers can judge for themselves.

We find all the answers only to come to the place where we're not asking the right questions. Like: How could this not have happened, except by at least, intellegent design?

This is called 'loading the question' and then phrasing it poorly.

To what does the pronoun 'this' refer to in the sample question? It is not made clear through the context. As an example of "asking the right questions", your suggestion leaves something to be desired.

With all the laws of science and the role of nature, could this have happened without a GOD to have brought all this about?

With all the intelligence and wisdom that the biblical God is credited, could God have just happened without Super-God to have brought him about?

It is another loaded question that appeals to ignorance. "Because science can't explain everything (the origin of the natural laws), there is no other explanation than the Judo-Christian God."

When we don't know the answer to something, the only honest answer is "We don't know." The "god of the gaps" is forever fleeting, and an idea which can impedes real learning. (God in this sense is little more than mental caulk.)

God will not even regard those of us in our ivory towers of understanding, anyway.

This is another plea for ignorance. Ignorant people are good people.

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid

Yet another plea for ignorance - "The ignorant people are the only ones that know the truth."

Its only going to be more difficult for us to see God from our molecular human perspective.

Just what is our "molecular human perspective"? "I do not think that word means what you think it means."

The clock and the calendar will prove God true, and as for the rest of us,...

Like they did last weekend? The clock and calandar have been proving your God false every day for over 2000 years. Bible "knowledge" and prophecies have fallen far short of their words.

In order for thingness to exist, there must be no thingness to give it life....just as there must be darkness first to give light a meaning and existence.

Certainly you need to create an expanse between the "waters above" and the "waters below" before giving life to the nothingness. That's how I would do it.
