THOUGHTS ON UPGRADING TO (Free) WINDOWS 10
by Terry ini've been using windows 7 for several years and have had no complaints.. i've tried many browsers and settled on google chrome.
it has absolutely everything i want or need.. i kept hearing about the free upgrade to windows 10, so i went to youtube and watched endless "reviews" pro and con.. what pushed me over the (microsoft edge) was the fact i could test drive the new operating system.
for 30 days and go back to windows 7 if i didn't like it!

Yep, so much for the 'You'll never grow old and never need a career in this system of things' fantasy. This aging is only going to increase. The Baby Boomers' parents are old and the Baby Boomers themselves are aging. My Dad went into a home almost 4 years ago and I will be 53 this year.
The Silver Wave is turning into the Silver Tsunami.

What's a word that describes the way Witnesses behave as a group?
by paul from cleveland ini can't recall the word that describes a group that keeps to itself like the witnesses do.
i thought it was "insular" but i don't think that's the one i'm looking for after reading the definition.
i remember an elder using the word "clannish" and that has the proper definition but it reminds me of a group of elves.

Where are the EXJW Feminist Philosophers?
by Luther bertrand ini am working, more in the planning stages, where i am going to offer a commentary on the caleb and sophia cartoons that the org puts out.
i noticed a heavily patriarchal bent to the narrative that these cartoons offer.
i would really enjoy working with someone who has an academic background in feminist philosophy, or at least someone knowledgeable.

I am a woman but not 'trained' in philosophy nor feminism. I know what I like and what I want. I was raised in the religion but was never baptized. For what it's worth, here are my 2 cents.
Misogyny is one of the main reasons I knew, as a teenage girl, I could not be a Jehovah's Witness. If you've read the Bible, then you know misogyny is a major theme in this foundational book of the various Christian religions. It is not a stretch to see the application of it in many religions, and not just Christian ones.
As a JW, the expectation for me to live in subjugation to my husband turned my stomach and made me quite angry. It certainly wasn't what I wanted. I watched my Mother's individuality vanish under the oppressiveness of this religion. She got to a point where she couldn't even make decisions, heaping this responsibility solely on my Father's shoulders. I never wanted that. I value freedom too highly. Subjection is too costly a price for me to pay.
Have you researched the origins of slavery and Patriarchy? This might be an appropriate starting point. Not all societies or belief systems use Patriarchy/slavery/misogyny but there were decisions made in the ancient past in certain parts of the world to adopt this. And not just men, but women also, had a hand in instrumenting the inception of Patriarchy. Why? One reason/theory ... to bring stability to a region's warring tribes. Marry the women from one warring tribe into the other tribe and suddenly, you're fighting your kin. I have yet to find out why the decision was to exchange women instead of men or children, but this is what I have found thus far.

LoveUni said: The Pope says Trump isn't Christian yet it was this very same Pope who said if people criticize religion they have to expect to get punched. That doesn't sound Christian to me either
That's exactly what the Jay Dubyas would say.
WTF is going on here?
It is my understanding that 'turning the other cheek' is Christian, not retaliation. However, what I also know is that for every single person and every single 'Christian' religion, the term and definition of 'Christian' appears to be an ever changing and fluid one depending on circumstances. The ever shifting sands of religion/Christianity make me nauseous.

Can any believer make a case for the superiority of faith over knowledge?
by Half banana ini find it curious why so many here on this site, in the face of factual evidence for things such as evolution and the impossibility for anyone to make a coherent interpretation for the bible, would still prefer faith to knowledge?.
can any believer attempt a defence of this position?.

brandnew.... as you once said to me, now I say to you... you are a good person for looking after your pops.
And I am glad your Dad is finally starting to see the real truth of this religion. I am going for breakfast with friends this morning as well. No drive down the beach though... it's still a bit chilly here even though we are getting some above freezing temperatures.
I hope you and your Dad enjoy breakfast. Hugs to you and your pops!
