If shunning is a loving provision from Jehovah, then he's a d!ckhead. Something I also concluded when I was a teenager.

Mandatory reporting and misprision
by Xanthippe inday 7 of the australian royal commission has chair justice peter mcclellan raising the point that i have been wondering about all along, which is, how can these elders not report child abuse to the authorities especially when a full confession has taken place?.
justice mcclellan asked toole, the wts's lawyer, if he is aware that there is a difference between an organisation being required to have mandatory reporting of child abuse to the authorities and misprision which is the concealment of a felony, itself a criminal offence?
toole says he is aware of it now but he wasn't before!

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a lawyer can be ignorant of the law...
edited to add.... and then admits that he is.
This is astounding. I think I have to agree. Disbarment of this man should be considered.

Why aren't the Governing Body members being investigated in the ARC?
by Illuminated inwhen there's a malfunction in a product that causes an injury or death, the head of the corporation is held accountable not the salesmen selling the product.
.
why aren't the governing body members being investigated when they are the root cause of the child abuse issues and the re-victimization that takes place after?.

I do not believe the Royal Commission of Australia has jurisdiction in the U.S.
That being said, since Jackson is in Australia, he is being asked to appear. This will be a defining moment. Let's see what kind of a weasel Jackson is.
The JWs who have been testifying as well as the JW lawyers have already tried to convince the RC that the GB would not be of any use to these hearings which is a big fat lie.

While I am hopeful I do remain skeptical that Jackson will actually appear. These guys are Teflon Men... slippery-er than a snake.
I think it is reasonable to assume that Jackson will have some reason other than 'Dad's not well' for not showing or he'll high tail it outta Dodge.

d4g... along those same lines is this quote from Christopher Hitchens on poverty and women:
"The cure for poverty has a name, in fact: it's called the empowerment of women. If you give women some control over the rate at which they reproduce, if you give them some say, take them off the animal cycle of reproduction to which nature and some doctrine—religious doctrine condemns them, and then if you'll throw in a handful of seeds perhaps and some credit, the floor of everything in that village, not just poverty, but education, health, and optimism will increase. It doesn't matter; try it in Bangladesh, try it in Bolivia, it works—works all the time. Name me one religion that stands for that, or ever has. Wherever you look in the world and you try to remove the shackles of ignorance and disease stupidity from women, it is invariably the clericy that stands in the way, or in the case of—now, furthermore, if you are going to grant this to Catholic charities, say, which I would hope are doing a lot of work in Africa, if I was a member of a church that had preached that AIDS was not as bad as condoms, I'd be putting some conscience money into Africa too, I must say." --Christopher Hitchens

We can now estimate the absolute minimum number of child abuse cases
by Viviane invincent tool said that he is exclusively working the phones for child abuse cases, but never said he is not the only one.
for now, let's assume the rate of abuse cases averages over time to the three or four cases he gets per month.
let's further assume that, since he isn't the only person working the phones and is on vacation at some point, the number is 4-5 per month, or 4.5 per month.

That doesn't surprise me Morpheus. I think a lot of people do not come forward. I can tell you as a child in this religion, I definitely learned what not to talk about with my parents._Morpheus said: as for the elders hearing these things and being affected.. I served 10 years and never heard a case of child molestation. There were never any REPORTED in my congregation, not to suggest they didnt occur.

fmf said: I know that pedo's come from all walks of life and beliefs, but I wonder if there is something about the religious institutions that draws them?
Just from my understanding of JW world, there is a level of trust that is given without any checks once a person is in. It is the worldly people, one's outside the group that are suspect, NOT the ones within. This is PERFECT for pedos. AND to top it off, in the JW religion, all you have to do is be repentant and you're allowed to stay and do it all over again.
OC, you make a very valid observation about feeding the cycle. Makes you wonder if many of the elders on the committees are also pedos. Not sure how these guys can stomach this stuff.
