The CO was visiting my Dad's congregation recently. The reason I was given for the "end is near/Armageddon is coming soon" theory is because people are leaving the JW congregations. Apparently this is one of the last signs. Not sure the 'why' of people leaving (I didn't ask). Are they dying? Or are they just fed up with the crap? Or are they being 'kicked to the curb' because they don't measure up? All I know is I find that every time the numbers start declining, they push the Armageddon coming soon idea. I don't even have to look at the Yearbook numbers.
I told my father that I doubt very much it is coming soon. I don't think 'Jehovah' will allow any one group on the face of this earth to say 'See? We told you so.' I told him he has nothing to worry about. God knows what is in my heart.
Isn't there a lesson to be learned about crying wolf too much? I think this is one of the reasons people are leaving.

Never read it. I had had enough with the "Your Youth" book (yeah... the frickin' red one!).
no more kool aid said: Wow that thing really messed with our heads.
It sure did! That book angered me. It's one of the reasons I did NOT become a JW! I wonder how many of the boys actually read the girls' chapter. Notice it came AFTER the boys' chapter. BTW... they didn't use the word 'penis' to describe the male sex organ or 'vagina' to describe the woman's birth canal. Weirdness!
The 2 paragraphs for the boys on sexual properness/responsibility versus 4 PAGES for the girls really ticked me off! BITE ME, WTS!
I told my mother there was no way I wanted any part of any organization or 'new world' where women were second class citizens and subjugated. I still maintain this. Oppression and subjugation are not loving and have no truck with me.

Sorry I couldn't respond earlier HB as I am still on 'probation' with only 10 posts in 24 hours ( ). These were my first thoughts when I saw your emoticon...
SARGE and Sarge's dog OTTO from Beetle Bailey

just the occasional pain
Uh, Grace, this doesn't put you in the hospital.
I wish you didn't have to suffer with this. Pain sucks! My thoughts are with you. I agree with jamiebowers, Zid, and Hope4Others. Please be good to yourself.

LOL! That reminds me of a "King of the Hill" episode. Hank was having trouble with #2. It was hilarious!
Of course, the rainbow was God's promise never to flood the entire earth again. Does that include bodily waste?
Thanks for the laugh, JD!

I Just Talked To An Old JW Friend About The Dumbness of The Organization
by minimus inhe came by my work and we talked.
he pretty much became irregular (as a publisher), moved away and recently moved back into the area.
he's now a ms again and he's bemoaning his lot in life and sees a lot of stupidity within the "truth".

ok
It is up to you, mimimus, how you would like to handle this. As I said previously, you have an opportunity here. You can help to move your 'old JW friend' from the 'Doubt' and 'Discomfort' phases of the change cycle, past the 'Danger Zone', and into the 'Discovery' phase (http://www.changecycle.com/changecycle.htm ).
Covey uses the visualization of one's 80th Birthday. When you reach 80, and you look back on your life, are you happy with what your life has been? Have you done all that you wished to do? What do you regret? What would you have changed? What do you look forward to?
I like this exercise from Covey because it uses the visualization technique to help change your present situation so you can have the life you want. By visualizing the future, we can start to change our present. Most JWs have never planned a real life since Armageddon was going to be here ... uh... 'soon' ... or 'very shortly'. So I highly doubt many of them have done the above thought process. My suggestion for you is to help him do this... that is, if you think he's worth it.

Pop Culture From Younger Generation Being Followed By Older Generations.
by Yizuman inimagine yourself as a young generation dressed up in today's pop culture style, listening to today's popular music and have a pop culture phrases such as "dude", "chill" "l33t", "epic fail", "fo shizzle", etc.
you get my meaning.. now imagine a 80 year old trying to stay on top of today's pop culture with his pants below his waist with his underwear showing, along with some bling - bling, bangin' to today's popular music, etc.
(ew, i think i just threw up a little).. how do you guys feel seeing older generation trying to "get with it" in terms of language, clothing style, music and everything else that's considered "cool" in today's pop culture?.

But...there will be l33t in universities. W00t is already in the dictionary.
I have no idea what these are. Unless they have relevance in my work or my personal life, I probably won't educate myself on them. I do think the captions on icanhascheezburger.com are quite hilarious though! My neice and nephews do 'gangsta' speak. Are any of these part of l33t or W00t?
I have always been one to pick and choose what I like that is 'new'. I see people wearing the low-rider jeans constantly hitching them up and feel this is not for me (just say 'No' to Crack!). I used to wear these back when I was a kid (they were in when I was 8 years old). I'm not into having to do that so I'm with the 'classic' fit, thanks. I do like the 'shirt out' look (is that old now?) and the fit of the new t-shirts and blouses.
I am always fascinated at the new/current music artists going back to the 'old' music! Currently, Culture is doing Toto's "Africa". I love Green Day's version of John Lennon's "Working Class Hero". I applaud the group for using this to bring attention to the situation in Darfur. I definitely like Eddie Vedder's (of Pearl Jam) version of Indio's (Gordon Peterson's) "Big Hard Sun", although my fave is still the original from Indio.
Whatever the case, change is constant in this life and I make up my own mind as to what I like.

The one pictured below is around $40 CDN. Here's part of the 'description' for this product (ahem):
"ARMAGEDDON represents the New World Order in advanced sports nutrition as it relates to bodybuilding and athletic performance and is the 1st and only product to date whose results can truly be described as those of Biblical proportion. Just 1 dose and you will know why ARMAGEDDON spells Judgment Day for any and all competition, and the end of the supplement world as we currently know it."
