Shall I go to the meeting? Would you?

hi guys,.

i might go to the meeting.

i stopped going in my heart properly in nov 2013, but i went to a couple of meetings to support a love one that was df'd and tried to teach them a little ttatt.. now another df'd loved one is coming to see me today and will likely encourage me to try and get ri'd, and i want to support her.

Hi Kate ... I think you need to ask yourself how you feel going back now that you know TTATT. If you can stomach it then sure.

I honestly have a very difficult time stomaching a KH. One of the reasons for me is that the local pedophile is still in my Dad's previous congregation. Back in 2010 was the last time I attended that KH and yeah, that douche bag was there. I had to go to take my Dad to a funeral... I mean 'memorial service/advert for JWs' for one of his friends (Dad wasn't able to drive at that point).

If I were in your shoes I'd suggest to my loved one that we meet after they've gone to their meeting to discuss things. Of course, if what you are discussing is the JW meeting then I guess you probably should go.

I would not. But that's me and my circumstances/stomach.

Let us know what you decide and how it goes. Maybe try it once and see?

As a Work of Literature The Bible is Just Dreadful

of course it's easy to criticise the bible for all manner of serious flaws, but it fails on a more basic level.. it is just a terrible piece of literature.. this piece on "southern skeptic" is well worth a read.. god is a terrible writer....

I have never been able to get through reading the entire book.

The so-and-so begat so-and-so section stops me in my tracks every time. I guess as a kid I tried to relate myself to the people documented in the Bible but was unable to. So now I just use Google / Bible Gateway to pull out specific scripture.

I do love using scriptures that are rather shocking with believers since most of them have never read the Bible either.

A couple of my faves to use are:

Song of Solomon 2:3: As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

Ezekiel 23:20: There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

nasa's probe "new horizons" was launched in 2006 and since then has been speeding across 3 billion miles of space to the most distant planet in our solar system.. the first pictures arrived today with higher resolution images due tomorrow.. i fu~~ing love science.. more details from the bbc here.... .

i served for years as an elder in london ontario.

finally stepped aside because of the old boy network, elders covering up for one another, practice of elders and their wives party times with excessive use of alcohol.

the elders families getting slaps on the wrist for major sins.

JWs claim to be different but they are not. Nor does Jehovah save these people from anything either. All my family born on or before 1914 are dead. None of them saw Armageddon and 'the new system of things'.

All of them died of something not so great like cancer, heart ailment or other issues related to old age. Yep, no one lives forever. We all die. So knowing that, it's good to live your life as you wish, not as some wacko religion wants you to.

Yeah... planetary shunning. This ousting of things seems to happen outside of religion as well.

Edited to add: Some of the comments made though about the data collected by New Horizons was that this dwarf planet is actually larger than what they thought. So maybe... just maaaayyybbeeee it will get re-instated into the collective...errr... family... uuummm... whatever.

People will just ignore them. I highly doubt this will be any more effective in converting anyone. It may demonstrate to more 'worldlies' just how ill-informed they are.
