Back in 1975, my former Team Lead worked with a guy who quit his job and sold his house anticipating the arrival of Armageddon.

I guess that guy had to get another job and another house because Armageddon was, once again, a no show.

The Bible Students and JWs have been claiming the end is close now for over 136 years.

Seriously, this isn't soon.

The Big 'A' is nothing more than a control mechanism. 'But it's in the Bible' has to be one of THE worst comebacks I have received on why it hasn't arrived yet but it will soon whenever I have brought up the fact that it hasn't arrived when predicted in the past.

Wishing something were true does not make it so.

In 2009, my Father told me the end was really close now. I asked him how he knew. He said it was because the economy was really bad. I asked him "Is it as bad as it was during the Great Depression?"

He kind of stared blankly at me. Then he said rather quietly, "Nooo."

I went on. I said "Because if the bad economy is the reason, shouldn't the end have come during the Great Depression?"

Botchtower will keep saying whatever it needs to in order to keep people in their organization.

If I told you I was coming over to your house 'very soon now' and 52 years later I have yet to arrive, would you think I was still coming soon or that I am never coming?

This is basically what their Armageddon failed prophecy is to me. I will be 52 years old this year. So far, the Big 'A' is one BIG FAILURE!

Should I Shun My Dog?

some background:josie the miniature schnauzer is now 12 years old, so she's old enough to know the difference between right and wrong.

however, she insists on peeing in the middle of my beautifully tended lawn, which, as a consequence, is now covered in brown patches.

i've remonstrated with her a number of times and each time she purports to show a diplay of repentance, that is, she slinks away on her belly with her ears flattened down tightly to her head.

Bro Loesch's talk.

recently i heard through video link to our kh a talk by bro loesch where he attacked university study (again) but this time he prefaced his remarks by saying, and i quote, "the faithful slave does not forbid you to go to university.

" so this was a bad start as his following remarks made it clear that this was just a way of seeming reasonable while basically saying that we shouldn't do it.

he went on to use an illustration i think he has used before about a man with ocd who decided to kill himself.

This was my parents stock answer to their JW cronies when they'd ask my parents if I was a JW or had gotten baptized.

The GB cannot risk someone developing critical thinking skills. It's a cult indoctrination killer. :0)

i was informed today by a jw that the watchtower doesn't use images and propaganda to instil fear.

i would really like to see a compilation of all their armageddon illustrations.

maybe a thread or web page already exists that had this content.. the one i am really wanting is the most recent picture of the witnesses in the basement during the tribulation.. this will be a massive help so thank you..

plagiarism in the bible- what I have learnt part one

i have recently been studying the myths and legends of other pre- jewish cultures.

such as babylonian, egyptian and greek.

these stories and beliefs are all pre dating the writing of the jewish torah and the new testament.

purrpurr, it is an excellent activity to check into pre-Biblical history. I find not many religious people do. This is not a very intelligent move on their part. I also find many religious people do not even know the content of their own foundational holy book.

At some point in the past, someone or a group of someones decided to trot this collection of (73 - apparently strikethrough isn't working on this site) 66 books out as 'the inerrant, true word of God'.

It all goes downhill from there.

The visit with elder and wife outcome

where to start in regard to my visit with the elder and his wife; a wife who sat mute throughout the discussion.

they arrived on the dot and we engaged in talk about the weather.

this could have gone on for some time but i brought it around to the reason for this particular visit.

i apologize for how rantish this is but please hear me out.

anyways i'm a 15 year old girl and i've never really wanted to be a jw.

its just never been something thats made me feel happy or loved.

Hi BlackWolf and welcome to the board.

Wow.... your story resonates with me so much. I was your age when I started doubting. That was back in the late 1970s (yeah, I'm getting older... something the Watchtower said would never happen... hint #1 they are full of it).

I'll tell you what I did and I hope it helps. I secretly planned my life. It is good you have a goal of Art school. Do not give up on this. Look into how you can accomplish taking this after you graduate 'high school' (or the equivalent). My plan was to go and study Computers in College. And I did it. I just had my 30th career anniversary. There IS life outside of JW-land. ;0)

About money... my folks never saved for my education so I started working as a teenager. I babysat and got a part time job at a convenience store. Whatever you do, start saving your money. There are usually financial programs available to assist students with post-secondary education. I had to get a loan from the government in Ontario, Canada to help with my schooling. But I took it. AND... once I graduated College and got my job, I paid that loan back. One of the key things I did was to move away from home to go to school. It was a fun adventure. I got away from my parents trying to influence me with JW crap. And I got very busy.

You CAN do this. Start planning now. Look into how you can do this. And have fun!
