Hey, Oompa! WAnt me to send AukNuk your way? She'd scare off any demons!!
I used to be an absolute, total and completely rational non-believer in spirits/ghosts/demons/whatever. I laughed at the JW stories or treated them like campfire ghost stories - fun, scary, and totally non-believable.
Then I went to work in a nice, modern office building on a plateau in Santa Ana, California in the early '80's. I pooh-poohed my co-workers' stories of chairs moving in other people's cubicles after they'd left for the day... People who stayed after to work overtime usually came in the next day with a tale or two. I totally discounted everything I heard....
But! (in retrospect...) there was a strange phenomenon that would frequently occur in the conference room when we had those dreary weekly 'morale' meetings... We'd all be sitting around the table, trying to keep our noses from breaking when we fell asleep and hit the table face-first; but every once in a while the vanes/vertical blinds on the window would agitate in motion as though someone had just passed - invisibly - along beside them. I used to attempt to get the vanes to repeat that motion by walking - really fast - past them after the meeting was over, and I was a really fast walker!! But I could never get the motion to duplicate what I saw... I always figured I'd dropped off and someone had come in without my seeing them... Yeah, that's the ticket....
Then, one afternoon about 2:20, I was zipping along towards my cubicle worrying about getting something business-related completed when I saw something that made me come to a screeching halt. The door to the conference room was open about two feet, and through the open doorway I could see one - ONE - vane, suspended in mid-air at about a 45-degree angle, and shaking...
I slipped into the room and barely left the door cracked, reasoning logically that this was probably some characteristic of the ventilation and air-conditioning system, so if I sealed the room by closing the door it would stop. And then I began to stalk that one, lone vane, just hanging in mid-air and vibrating -
As I was about six feet from it, someone behind me jerked the door open, yelled "[my name]! Meeting in five minutes!" and the vane fell into position and didn't move again. I was cussin' up a storm!!!
But I wasn't too upset to notice that when the vane fell back into position, there was no residual, pendulum-like motion whatsoever. It simply swung back into position and froze there.
I'm a bit more open-minded about ghosties after that experience... But it indicated to me that actual hauntings are probably more subtle than people realize... Zid

If You Weren't A JW>>>>
by minimus inif you were not a jehovah's witness, how would your life have been different?.

College degree in geology. Perhaps specializing in paleontology. Possible that I might have found T-Rex nicknamed 'Sue', as I have non-JW relatives with land in that area... Would never have wasted any time believing that a 3,500 year-old Middle Eastern regional deity had anything to do with evolution of 4 billion-year-old earth... No miserable 9-year marriage to a JW gambling beer-drinking pool shark. Would own my own townhome/condo. Would have healthy savings account... retirement plan... Wouldn't have all those implanted cult beliefs still messing with my sub-conscious... Would be much happier and healthier... Zid

Being told that someone deliberately 'tripped' me to keep me from becoming successful makes me angry and determined to succeed in spite of the roadblocks in my way.
Being told that someone else set me up for failure tells me that it's not something intrinsically wrong with me - that I'm not undeserving, worthless, too stupid, not blessed by god, etc...
To my mindset, this realization opens doors for me... Zid

Lady Lee said: "But I have to say this. I was hurt far more and to a greater extent by the very people I was supposed to trust above all others, my mother..."
Hear, hear! My parents were both immature monsters before they ever joined the JWs - looking at them, I was veeerry suspicious of the 'types' of people attracted to the JWs - while I was still in the cult!
steve2 said: "The best advice anyone ever gave me was, "Grow up". I hated hearing it at the time..."
Funny you should mention that, steve2. That is one characteristic - that is, 'infantalizing' the converts - that is frequently mentioned as a strong indicator of a cult. The more dependent or co-dependent they can keep the members on the organization - render them like infants... The WTBTS has so many references in its literature about "being like young children" - uuuugh! Don't understand exactly what you meant when you said my comments were 'patronizing'... I'm still struggling to see the psychological ways in which the WTBTS set me up to fail in certain areas of my life...
Thx, SPAZnik and watson!
Thx for commenting, all! Zid

WBTS -A MODERN-DAY 'NAZI PARTY'??
by Scott77 inconsidering the way the wbts controls and manipulates people in its mental grip, is it logical to compare it to the the infamous german nazi party?
is this an exageration?
what parallel can be drawn between the two?

Uhm, most authors treating the subject of JWs in the German concentration camps focused on their courage under extremely trying conditions, but one author pointed out that one aspect of the JW ideology that incensed Hitler was the simlarity between his party's techniques for recruiting members and the JW techniques for recruitment. I didn't record the book in my running bibliography, unfortunately; but it was only one sentence out of an entire book that was, in general, more favorably inclined towards the JWs.
However, if you check out this book: "Jehovah's Witnesses and the Third Reich - Sectarian Politics Under Persecution" by M. James Penton. Published in 2004 by University of Toronto Press....
You would find a much more thorough discussion of the behind-the-scenes manipulation and errors at the WTBTS prior to WWII which actually set up the German brothers for persecution. I have not yet had a chance to read this book - it's on request at the local library - but I suspect it describes a situation similar to the harsh and unequal treatment (by the WTBTS) which set up the Malawi brothers and sisters to be harshly persecuted, tortured, raped and killed... as compared to the Mexican brothers' manipulation of the system to escape conscripted service in the military.
In my personal opinion, the WTBTS is a cult, therefore it has many features in common with Nazism under Hitler. Their effect on the world hasn't been as immediately horrific; but given time, enough followers, and the right opportunity - I believe the WTBTS is every bit as capable of committing such atrocities... This topic is in sympathy for all Jehovah's Witnesses visiting this site who have had bad experiences after they left the JWs and went out into the world. I've heard many ex-Jehovah's Witnesses saying, "Well, I went into the world and found nothing but trouble!! People were mean to me! They took advantage of me! They lied to me! They betrayed me! I met/married a worldly man/woman and they cheated on me!!" - and so on...
It pains me to state this so bluntly, but, of course these things happened to you...
The reason you failed when you went out into 'the world' is because you were supposed to fail - you were deliberately set up to fail - in order for the WTBTS to maintain its hold on you. Their covert installation of a handicap (so to speak) in your mind and personality caused a self-fulfilling prophecy to take place - they said you were going to fail, and they made sure that you did fail!!!
Most of you were taught, frequently from birth or infancy, by parents who were controlled by an organization that told you it had your "best interests at heart", which then LIED to you!!! Not only did the WTBTS LIE to you but they lied to you by implication...!!
Which meant that when you tried to pin them down on the LIES - "But, but, you said 'Armageddon' was going to come in 1975!!!" - "Oh, no, you ran ahead of the organization!" - they could LIE to you about having LIED to you!!! This, of course, imprinted the behaviour pattern in your mind of believing in and trusting those who lie to you! Talk about crazy-making!
The WTBTS (as has been stated many, many times here) says one thing - does another!! It tells you that the world is a dangerous place, then forbids you to get a college education, leaving you vulnerable to financial destitution. Then it uses those who have gotten college educations to reach its goals!! It tells you (in fact, flatters you!) that you are 'special' because you listen to the Faithful and Discreet Slave, then forbids you to read ANYTHING critical, preventing you from developing a well-informed, discerning mind (and yes, I'm using JW buzzwords deliberately!)! It tells you that they have your 'best interests' at heart, then the WTBTS flip-flops on life-or-death medical procedures!! Talk about being SET UP FOR FAILURE!!!
This is unfortunately too typical of WTBTS tactics - demonize all other sources of information, convince the rank&file Jehovah's Witness that only the Watchtower Society is the real and true source of God's Word (which is pretty damn presumptuous of them!), and then set you up to fail if you ever have the audacity - or courage - to attempt to leave....
So what would have happened when you went 'into the world'?? What kinds of people would you have been attracted to or drawn to - what kinds of people would you have TRUSTED??? Yes!! That's right! The ones who would repeat that behavior pattern you'd learned to trust as a Jehovah's Witness - ones who would LIE to you!!! Do you still wonder why you met with disastrous results when you left the organization to make your way in the world?
When young children are exposed to certain behavior patterns, especially in a closedsystem, they grow up not only believing those tenets on a conscious level, but also seek to recreate the same environment at a pre-conscious and sub-conscious level!!! I think it's called 'imprinting' - same as a gaggle of baby geese or ducks imprinting on their mother.
Normallyimprinting is a survival mechanism - that is, if one has a 'normal' system in place - free exchange of information with the outside world, and parents or parent figures that truly have your best interests at heart. But in the closed system of a cult.....?? Their only goal is to control you by 'demonizing' ALL opposing viewpoints!!
Can you imagine a mother bear or mother cheetah teaching her cubs to avoid, shun, and ignore the world around them??? They wouldn't last very long, would they???? Look at the natural world - when animal parents have offspring, they teach them what a predator looks like, and how to avoid/escape from it... Obviously the WTBTS didn't teach you this, because they were the predator who WANTED you to fail when you went into the world!!! That way, they could continue to control you - to be the absolute authority in your life, even over-ruling your own innate survival instinct!
Hope this little speech helps someone?? Zid

What??? No pix of Alcyone??? Jehovah [who's only been in existence (- i.e., recorded in any human writings) for less than 3,500 years - that is, if you count the 'YHWH' as being pronounced that way...] is gonna be pissed!!!
Christians make me laugh. Christianity has only been in existence for 2,000 years; the bible has only been in existence for approximately 3,500 years, .... BUUUUUT!!!
Goddess worship has been in existence for at least 20,000 years!! That's ten times the age of Christianity!!
But WaiT! I'm not thru yet!!
Going back even farther in human history, the animistic/shamanistic religion(s) of the Australian Aborigines have been in existence for 40,000 to 100,000 years!!!
So, if you're gonna believe in some deity over this planet, it should properly be worshipped via the oldest form of worship, not some Middle Eastern Johnny-come-lately regional deity...!!!
I always laugh at the fact that, since humans have to make things by hand, they think that everything else has to be "stick-built", too! In fact, if you really look at the human process of 'creation', you'll actually realize that human creations are locked into an underlying system that is evolutionary in its basis!!
Think I'm wrong??? LOok at the first computers, then compare them to your cell phone!! If creationism was the underlying principle of the universe, then the 'complex' forms would have been directly created - not evolved over time via a long process of trial and error!!
