  firpo carr argues that while many white apostates claim to highlight so-called 'racist' remarks and terminology in the watchtower literature, most such apostates are in fact white and have little real interest in black issues.

  they are only interested in the issue in so far as they can use it to promote white anti-witness propaganda, whereas a high percentage of loyal witnesses are black.

  i know that all the terms of my topic are debatable: apostacy is a witness term of derogation; apostates probably are mostly liberal and not racist (essentially); and they are not a 'movement' in any case.

  Learn to think for yourself, it's good clean and wholesome fun. Don't believe all this "gospel according to apostacy" stuff they teach you down at the ol' KH either.

  A big problem for JW's in the UK?

  from the sky news web site - 23.06.05giving the cold shoulderdoorstep salesmen who cold-call are to be targeted with the launch of a new scheme banning them from certain areas.

  residents who feel harassed by their tactics will work with police to create no-entry zones for them under a plan by the trading standards institute.. .

  the no-go zones could cover anything from a street to an entire estate and will also help combat so-called "distraction burglaries", which have been linked to cold-calling.. persistent doorstep sellers would then be reported to the authorities for follow-up action.. ron gainsford, chief executive of the institute, said: "people are sick and tired of uninvited doorstep callers.

  Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread, but does anyone know where I go to read up on the new incitement law? Is there a government website where I can find details of proposed legislation?

  edit: found something... on ...www.homeoffice.gov.uk edit2: answer to my previous question seems to be no. The new incitement law is for much more extreme stuff than shunning it seems.

  Nice thought, but it magically won't apply to the JWs somehow, and they'll carry on as usual.

  However, I wonder if they can be got by the new incitement to religious hatred law that's coming our way in the UK. I'm not necessarily thinking about the pretty unpalatable things they say about other religions, but rather the hatred they incite in their members of people who leave the org. Could shunning be viewed as an incitement to hatred of a group of people (ex-jws) on the basis of that group's beliefs? I wonder.

  My Dad

  just a wee update on my current tentative drawing out of my family.

  i sent a letter, which not coincidentally was timed to arrive on fathers day weekend just gone.

  its the first letter i've sent in 8 years to my family and whilst i was careful to avoid any mention of religion i did talk about how happy i was generally and mentioned how nice it is that i see so much of my inlaws who despite living 800 miles away make regular visit to us at least 3 or 4 times a year.

  Unplanned pregnancy?!

  this sort of follows on from another thread about having kids.. is there anyone else out there coping with raising a child from an unplanned pregnancy?

  i got pregnant about 18 months after i left the borg & i sure as hell blame my lack of experience/knowledge!

  it has been a pretty rough ride ...

  As for unplanned arrivals, it's hard enough work when they're planned, so must be tough for you. I hope it gets easier for you in time, JW83. Is there a Mr JW83 around, or are you doing it all by yourself?
