While I do believe in the direction of God, and that it can come in various forms, why do Christians always want to have a "Paul" experience?
may you all have peace!.
a little while ago a dear one referred to my trip to "bethel" and discussion with carey barber.
he asked if he could read them.

the people in the ot made mistakes about what god wanted and expected from them.
some of the laws that were given were in place because they were too hard-hearted to accept anything more merciful.
jesus clearly states this:.
I just wanted to add, that I don't believe that all the Laws found in the current torah are truly in their original form due to apparent contradictions of justice and even logic in some cases.

This is an interesting thread. I can appreciate you comments Tec. Although, I don't believe that the gospel accounts are reliable historical documents of what Jesus really taught. In fact, the verse you quoted from John 8 regarding the stoning of an adulteress, is found to be a later insertion by the church since the account is not contained in the oldest manuscripts.
The point is, I accept God on His terms and I believe the divine Laws revealed by Him to the prophet Moses, peace be upon him, were wholly good and pure, and not a curse as Paul would have us believe. Christianity softened the worship and concept of God down to such a degree so as to attain more converts. Because of that we see a major difference in the personality of God in the OT compared with the NT. This is why Marcion in the second century proposed that the God of the old testament was not really the true God at all but was a devil. Jesus, he believed, was the true God who came to bring the true light. I don't agree with him, but it just goes to show you that this apparent difference is confusing and strange to say the least.
I'm an ExJW Muslim by the way.
hey everyone.
another idea came to me tonight while discussing the pew forum survey about how only 37% of jehovah's witnesses remain in the religion from childhood.
the recent watchtower article where it says the majority of people who leave the religion do so in order to commit sin was brought up predictably.
Name: Oscar
Gender: Male
Age: 28
How were you introduced to Jehovah's Witnesses: converted early in life at 16 years old
How did you leave the religion: Disassociated
What Age did you leave?: 27
Were you Baptized: Yes, also served as an MS and Pioneer
What General reason did you leave the religion: Didn't believe it was Truth anymore & felt overwhelmed with all the things you needed to do
How did you feel about the doctrine before leaving: Believed whole-heartedly
Did your feelings about the doctrine effect the way you left?: Yes
If you were disfellowshipped for sin, did your feelings on the doctrine effect you sinning in the first place? N/A
Did you research the religion's teachings after leaving? Before and after
What are your feelings on the doctrine of the religion since leaving? They are totally wrong with a few exceptions (Belief in One eternal God, Anti-trinitarian stance)
How do you feel about the organization since leaving?: There are alot of problems
How do you feel about the people since leaving?: They are misguided but "some" great people
How do you feel about discussing your time as a Jehovah's Witness?: I bring it up frequently

I knew some people from the La Mesa Cong. I used to be in Bancroft Cong. about 7 seven years ago and then moved to the local spanish congregation to expand my service. I DA'd about a year ago, how about you? Are you still attending meetings?

Hey leec, I'm from san diego too. East county to be exact. Which part are you from?
jesus said to 'go your way and sin no more' and the bible also says not to 'use the grace of god as an excuse to sin'.
however the bible also says that 'all sin and fall short of the glory of god'.
this means that we can only partially obey the commandment to be sinless.
Hello Paul,
Since almost everyone has pretty much given a christian answer I'll give you an islamic prespective, which also seems to coincide with the Jewish viewpoint as well.
We (muslims) believe first and foremost that God (Allah) is the Most Gracious and Most Merciful. Unlike Christianity we do not believe that mankind has fallen into the dilemma of original sin. Adam's sin has nothing to do with it. We were created with freewill and, different from other creation, we have the ability to choose good or bad, otherwise we would be robots. To think that God created Adam believing he would be perfect forever is illogical. Any creature with free will someday will pick or choose what he wants, not necessarily what God wants. Despite that, God is willing to forgive and pardon sin when we recognize our error and repent, and He allows us to do that by covering over the bad deeds with good ones. When we repent we do not have to go to others to confess but seek God in prayer personally without intermediaries or exposing ourselves publicly.
Allah says: “Say: O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Sûrah al-Zumar: 53]
Allah says: “Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful,” [Sûrah al-Furqân: 70]
Allah says “If you shun the most heinous sins which you are forbidden, We will do away with your small sins and admit you to a gate of great honor.” [Sûrah al-Nisâ’: 31]
suppose a gb member is perusing the god forsaken internet(dirty word to a gb) and he stumbles on this site or randy's free mind site and his faith in the god almighty wt organization gets crushed beyond all repair.
say he's one of the younger bucks on that body and that he's only 65 years old.
and he well knows what happened to raymond franz.. what kind of turmoil will he be faced with?
agonus, you are right on that one. I remember when I was going through numerous meetings with the elders when I DA'd myself, I brought tons of evidence against the WTS actions and theology that contradicted the bible. There were no answers from there part just the same old reasoning "But Jehovah MUST have an organization". In their minds it was still not an excuse to leave.
Crazy isn't it?
Piercing....
i've been out of "the truth" (df'd) for over the last 15yrs and have struggled with one question all this time.
if the jw faith is not the one true religion and way to worship god then what is??
after all the bible doesn't say there are many ways to serve god but that the door is narrow leading off to ever lasting life and few are the ones finding it.
Moshe,
Did you consider Islam before converting to Judaism?
