  hey awaretoday,

  Don't give up! Your husband sounds much like me, going through the motions at the meetings and next thing you know your an elder. But I never fully bought in for some reason, something in the back of my mind knew something wasn't quite right. Keep asking questions in a curious way, and maybe he will wake up. I too am searching and exploring who God really is, though I think the WT has really misguided us on his identity. Though you love the friends, their loyalty is misplaced even though they may not even know it. It is to a man made organization, and it is not to Jesus. Hang in there and slowly make your move away from bondage and into freedom.

  Where else will you go?

  the po comes to see me and talks round the houses trying to find out what my problem is.. so i tell him "look its something i have to sort out for myself and i dont want to destroy your faith and make you start questioning so id rather not tell you".

  he already knew cos the first elder went to his house the second he left mine and told him about [what i thought was a private conversation between mates,] my issues.. so he proceeds to tell me a story of a brother he knows who was always very studious and knowledgable about all prophecies and the details of our beliefs.. well the guy suddenly stopped attending meetings last year, dont know why but the po seemed pretty upset about it as he was an old friend.. so he says " i said to him, but john, where will you go now on sunday afternoons,!

  and really wary where else will you go?".

  I'd laugh but it just makes me angry when I think about it...that this crew takes this scripture and applies it to their "organization"

  Where else to go? How bout where the apostles went, to Jesus! Course if you tell them that, they just don't get it

  why dis-associate, you are just playing by the wts rules?

  how can you dis-associate anyway, you never thought you were baptised as a watchtower society member, you thought your dedication was to god, so why formally disassociate from something you did not formally join?

  About 7 million Jdubs who take sacrifice their thinking ability and freedom and would rather be told by "Gods appointed channel" what to do with their lives, even when it comes to making a life or death decision.

  Seriously, your point is well taken and correct. While dubs are generally unwilling to consider WT history, as it doesn't apply now in their minds, this is the single most dangerous Jdub teaching. Even worse, most Dubs are so asleep at the switch, they generally will refuse the fractions too because they haven't educated themselves

  has anyone had any luck with a jw studying their history?

  i just finished reading "captives of a concept" i thought it was a terrific book.

  has any one had any success studying the history with a jw?.

  I love "Captive of a Concept" It seemed to have even more of an impact on me that CoC. Unfortunately, it deals with pure logic, somthing the average dub cant/wont do until he has a reason to. I thinks what is great about it is that even if you accept the whole 607-1914 timeline, AND the whole "satan got thrown out of heaven to the earth" idea, you still have a group claims an appointment based on their horrific track record. Oh, and that they also didn't even recognize the so-called appointment until decades after it supposedly took place.

  I think it really hit home with me because I think I've seen 1919 referenced at least a dozen times in WT and other literature in the last two years alone.

  the part i'm referring to is right at minute 9, where he calls out the "ants printing the watchtower" and says they never should have been dealing with generation.

  so why do they keep talking about it?.

  The 7th creative day and the 1000 yr. reign--isn't the BORG still on the hook with 1975?

  the borg has simultaneously used several lines of reasoning in conjunction with one another to argue that we are "in the last days" period of time.

  the sequence of events is supposed to be: "the last days," armageddon, and then immediately christ's millenial reign (1000 years).. as i recall one of the pieces of evidence the borg used to bolster the argument for armageddon coming in 1975 was that the period of the 7 creative days was supposed to end up spanning 49,000 years.. according to the "paradise" book and other 50s and 60s publications the 7 creative days started after the earth had been here for a very long time.

  each of the 7 creative days was supposed to be 7,000 years long.. god created adam & eve at the very end of the 6th creative day.

  Thats the cool thing about running your own cult...you can just make up the rules as you go! You don't have to explain your past failures because you are God's spokesman. You might lose a few people along the way, but you just pick up new recruits and keep on truckin'

  That Jehovah handed over the reigns to Jesus, who then had a "war" in heaven with Satan. It took a while for Jesus to win. Finally, he won and sent Satan and his crew to the earth. Then Jesus decided to kick back and have a few cold ones (95+ years and counting) so as to let Satan and his demons wreak havoc on all of humanity.

  Oh, and that Jesus picked an obscure group of professed Christians very early on during this process and continued to allow them to proclaim false dates for Armageddon, all the while approving of their form of worship while planning on how to exterminate the other 7 billion heathens here on earth.

  the trash is the easy answer. In actuallity, I keep finding it in my garage, my basement, my closet, and in my bookshelves. Actually dumped a bunch of bound volumes a few years back, those take up tons of space. Inherited a ton of 50's to 70's literature about 15 years ago, and still haven't been able to shake it. Keeps following me from house to house.

  I like it, of course it doesn't have the traffic and personality thats here. Was good for a lot of us noobs who couldn't get in the door here.

  But I have to admit I haven't even been there since I got in the door here!
