Have you watched "Star Trek: The Next Generation"? That's where the "Borg" term comes from.
Mrs Jones. Yes, got it! and how apropo! And they wonder where all the young ones are going!
ok, i'm a little slow.
i watched star trek but i just hadn't put it together in my head why some here refer to "the organization" as the borg.
i wasn't sure whether it was just me being discontented or whether the public speakers at kingdom halls were really getting less and less worthy of presenting themselves in front of an audience.. the idea was supposed to be that "mature ones" could overlook a colorless delivery and glean all of the spiritual truths that are being presented.

The idea was supposed to be that "mature ones" could overlook a colorless delivery and glean all of the spiritual truths that are being presented. But the reality is that the creator hasn't left us in some blah universe to guess whether the Creator has a personality or not. At least we have the human capacity to appreciate beauty, love and a zillion other turbo-charged, unnecessary-for-survival quality of life things to enjoy.
Why would the Organization squelch variety in the public speakers? To discourage all of that hero-worship that people in general seem to go for, but you would think that if we have the "maturity" to overlook a lackluster talk, we would also find a way to sort out the ego issues.
Wouildn't we?
Ha! The Borg! That's about right...
why is the weekly "book study" now called the weekly .
bible study?
" in terms of sheer word count, there is a lot more "book" studied than "bible.
well, keeping up with the weekly school reading could be considered "Bible study." The chapters in the "All Scripture" book, considered when we (they) move into another Bible book, are informative and could be said to actually focus on the Bible, but a book studied should be called a "Book study" it seems. I'm really not obsessing over this, it just seems odd.

it seems like some sort of denial is at work amongst the brethren...

Bible study?" In terms of sheer word count, there is a lot more "book" studied than "Bible." The questions aren't "What does this scripture seem to mean?" or "Why is this scripture brought to our attention?" The questions are looking for answers found in...the book. Somebody pointed out that the Society has gone back and forth on this a couple of times, and you are considered slow if you still refer to it as a 'book study" but even if we actually do learn something from the Bible while at the book study, make no mistake, we learned it in this book!
would you let a jw's religion affect your decision to use their services?.
.
om.
as an active witness, I viewed it as a gesture of brotherly love to recommend them to my regular clients who were looking for various needs. More often than not, I have been embarrased by the witness' ways of conducting business. So no more unless I'm sure. I assumed too much and honesty was one of the problems. Their need to witness during working hours was another obnoxious factor, as was laziness.
this leaves ugly women as the most unlikely to find partners.. please discuss..
she will always have him eating out of the palm of her hand. But I see it the other way around, too. We all want lotalty from our mates, so we do whatever to find one that will most likely be loyal.
Besides, it makes the ugly-ugly matchups a little more scarce, thereby reducing the number of VERY ugly children!
sorry, to be so blunt- for a whole day i have watched people here patting themselves on the back- we're a large army, oohh, look out wt, we might do something, well not today or tomorrow, but someday!
maybe, i have to just accept that a lot of jw's who are exiting the kh by the back door will never find a backbone to stand up to mummy and elder daddy.. jw's have a learned ability to see themselves in a better light than everyone else sees them.
ask a jw, if they are a charitable religion and they would likely all say they are, but when pressed to name a charity they will be unable to do so.
nobody likes a quitter
i'm looking all over and i can't find my old book.
i need to check one of the pictures - specifically jesus nailed to the stake..
good choice! one of the better books, in my humble opinion
i'm listening to the "six screens of the watchtower" broadcast from october 25, 2008 [yeah, i know, i'm waaay behind...], discussing pedophilia... that broadcast caused me to look up the current status of 'pedophilia notification' in the u.s.a..... rebel8 posted a link sometime back that gave locations of pedophiles in one's (u.s.a.) neighborhood... that portion of the link is, unfortunately, not working right now.... i decided to check out my [old] site, http://www.nsopw.gov/core/offendersearchcriteria.aspx to see if it still functioned the same way.... again, unfortunately, that site is also no longer giving out maps of one's area.... but, as pointed out in rebel8's posted link, pedophiles tend to move around.
this was also mentioned in the six screens broadcast by a lady named "lilly".... the new versions of both sites simply allow one to input the name of someone suspected to be a pedophile... not as effective, imo, but perhaps the cost of updating the maps due to pedophiles' high mobility became prohibitive.. so, here's my suggestion... using the 'name' search function, check out every name in .
your congregation, starting with the elders!!!.
yes, I'm a bit "off." I realize that some people are victims of circumstances and that justice does not prevail in all the land...especially on a JW apostate website when the subject is JW's. Sure, there are pedophiles in among Jw's, as there are in most any church group, and there likely IS a higher percentage per capita, than many other groups. I'm just saying that not all "sex offenders" are created equal. I was a hormone-charged adolescent, not a JW at the time, and my female conquests were many and in a variety of situations. No children involved, but the "action" began when I was 12 or 13, with girls my own age. Nowadays, that will buy you a nice record for everybody to rant about. It didn't in my case, but if some pissed-off father had chosen to press statutory rape charges, I would be one of the horrible people you hate so much.
So, you all waited until you were 18, right?
