Petrol prices drop so a Brother told me the bookstudy is back on!!
by Witness 007 inmy good friend told me the bookstudy would be back on if petrol prices drop!!!!
of course this never effected those witnesses who were too poor to own a car....who crossed crocodile infested rivers...got malaria....attacked by bandits just to make it to the bookstudy....."daddy we lost little johnny in the river!

It was never about fuel prices, although them hinting in the original letter that it was due to fuel prices will haunt the WTS. I, for one, started waking up when I read their letter.
Anyone else like me still have a copy of the letter? -

Do the WTS really want JWs to do intense Bible study and meditation? Personally speaking it was this very activity that ushered me out of the KH never to return.
Q 14. What will help us when we are studying the pure language? 14. Read aloud. (Rev. 1:3) Some students try to study a new language silently by themselves. This does not produce the best results. When studying the pure language, we may at times need to read "in an undertone" to help our concentration. (Read Psalms 1:1, 2.) Doing this impresses indelibly on our minds the material we are reading. In Hebrew, the expression "to read in an undertone" is closely related to meditation. Just as digestion is needed if we are to benefit fully from the food we eat, meditation is needed if we are to absorb what we read. Do we allow enough time to meditate on what we study? After reading the Bible, we must think deeply about what we have read.
Is it just me, or are the WTS making it seem like a hell of a lot of hard work? "Allow enough time to meditate", "We must think deeply". My experience is that you naturally end up thinking deeply about what you've been read in the Bible. You don't need to be told to do it. However, being told that you need to sit and think deeply, oh, and schedule enough time to do so, doesn't that make you want to do the opposite?
IMHO this article was clumsy, trying to shoehorn spirituality into an overly involved illustration about language.

since then his mother will have nothing to do with him, neither will his sister and her family.
a few of the more real jws that genuinely care about him have kept a level of contact up.

The friend I mentioned at the outset who is DAd, well, the local elders know he still has some contact with 'fringe' witnesses who are 'questioning' the Org's teachings. Believe it or not, an elder has advised him to stay away from these ones. Why? Because they are opposers
He's DAd and the elders are still trying to control him. -

As of tomorrow I will no longer be a JW
by passwordprotected inafter my last post where i asked for advice on how to handle whether i should tell an elder that we've been going to church, i decided to tell a local elder who's related to me through marriage.
this was to save my dad having to 'report' me (i'd told my dad we go to church).
anyway, i had an interesting chat with him and he said some very personally revealing things re.

A good friend of mine DAd a few months ago because he'd moved in with his 'worldly' g/f and he was already partially being stalked by the local BoE. Since then his mother will have nothing to do with him, neither will his sister and her family. A few of the more real JWs that genuinely care about him have kept a level of contact up. He and his g/f came round to ours a few weeks back and we had a really long chat about the whole situation. She said she'll never understand the shunning. She related that her b/f's niece explained that it's "because we love him that we won't talk to him." Obviously it's a form of love she's never experienced before getting involved with an ex-JW
At my meeting with 2 elders last Sunday I asked them how they will justify walking past me, my wife and our children in the street when they haven't been able to show me from the Bible what I've done wrong against God. They showed me Hebrews 12 about God disciplining those He loves. They explained that by shunning me, they would be lovingly disciplining me.
In reply I said, "C'mon, let's be completely pragmatic about this; do you honestly think that by walking past me in the street, ignoring me and my family, I'm going to think 'yep, I wanna go back'?" They could only shrug and say, "That's how we do it."
My good friend mentioned at the outset told me that every single time he sees a JW shunning him, it just makes him more determined never to return to the KH.
The reality about shunning is that it's nothing more than a loyalty test provided by the GB to all JWs. It does nothing to help 'errant' ones return. And if it does cause them to return, they'll be returning for the wrong reasons!
