  it’s a shame we don’t have the maturity to recognize the seriousness of the threats…the lethality, the carnage, that can be imposed on our society is so real and so present and so serious that you’d think we’d be able to understand it, but as a society, the longer you get away from 9/11, the less…the less…

  There is no scandal here. You apparently haven't heard that the intelligence community was disappointed more people didn't die in the original World Trade Center bombing. Why wasn't more done pre-911? they hadn't killed enough Americans yet.

  it is not infrequently that jehovah's witnesses make the statement that the name of their organization is "scriptural.

  tony wills, in his book "a people for his name" makes an interesting point about the misrepresentation of that name as "scriptural" and the appropriateness of this name-change by the impostor "bible scholar" rutherford -.

  why is it soooo important to be a regular meeting attender when you can read the publication simply, at home?

  they don't want you elaborating on the material.

  So you can see your peers raise their hands and parrot the organization's bullshit, this leads to a psycological sense that "everyone" thinks this, so "I" better not displease "everyone" by rocking the boat. There would be no "indoctrination" without this. A person reading a book can draw their own conclusions. A cult member needs the cult in order to be a cult member. Being a cult member is what most people are in it for, not many, even very stupid people would read a magazine written at the 4th grade level every month and feel like they have something special.

  Any other format does not work. "The truth" told to you from a book or from a person is unimpressive to anyone. The spell would be broken if they didn't have the "proofs of faithfulness" exercises of "answering" in front of your peers and of course, the field circus.

  Yes, a guy from my congregation went to Bethel to serve as an auto mechanic. I got the impression there aren't a lot of them, he was treated like a super-star with reference to his wrench-turning abilities. (that could have been that the was the only Bethelite our dub club produced as far as I know).

  If I was the son of god on earth and in the miracle business amongst pre-industrial ancient Jews in the holy land, I'd throw a free rock concert in downtown Jerusalem with 1 million watts of sound and a laser show. I think that would hit people more deeply than parlor tricks with loaves and fishes.

  remember all those bible readings we did on ancient egypt, babylon, all the stories about how yhwh was a jelous god and all the other gods were false?

  jehovah demands exclusive devotion.

  well since ive been occasionally reading without jw glasses anymore i read the bible as a story a mythical book, and it makes so much more sense.

  Old stories have been overlapped with newer stories. Old concepts with newer concepts up through different periods of history.

  This becomes extremely obvious when you read the bible cover-to-cover (like 99.99% of JW's and 90% of Christians never do).
