What offends me personally??? Not too damn much
It'sallgood's list is sensible & quite reasonable, however today, society is full of boors. Boors pushing their spin/viewpoint/religion/politics, you name it! If I really was to be offended easily, I might walk around pretty mad

warning people does some good
by gypsywildone inexcerpt from a note from a good friend:
what i know about jw's i've learned from you except for the few kids that would come to our house and i would tell them i had an ex-jw friend and that they need to think about going to college because they have their whole lives ahead of them to make their own decisions about religion.
also, i said if they ever needed help going to college to come to my house and i would help them get financial aid and that my husband is a teacher and would make sure that they got whatever they needed in terms of educational advisement.

Also, I said if they ever needed help going to college to come to my house and I would help them get financial aid and that my husband is a teacher and would make sure that they got whatever they needed in terms of educational advisement. Of course, after awhile, they stopped coming because after the teenagers, they started sending the middle-aged blank-staring jwmoooonie-eyed ones. But, I told those teenagers that they could make up their own minds about their lives as soon as they were 18. So, hopefully, they heard something from that experience I shared about you and going to college and growing their own minds!!!!

Thank you Mac, & same to you!
Seriously, I have met people that get hung up on some shit that happened to them years & years ago, & don't seem to make any effort to get over it. We are not the sum total of our childhood! Sure, it has it's effects, but if a person is 45 years old & still whining about some thing that happened 40 years ago, & using it as an excuse for all kinds of phobias & dysfunction, well that ain't living to me! It's dying, killing one's self slowly, but surely. It's an excuse not to give back to humanity or even progress in every day life.
Dr. Phil says there's always a payoff. Everyone wallowing in it & rehashing it needs to ask themselves what that pay off is. Is it for attention? An excuse not to make progress in life? An easy way out of actually helping someone else? An excuse to drink?
Sure it takes effort, but it's so worth the effort! How can we help anyone else if we aren't even trying to help ourselves?

Right on Jgat! There are people who hold onto their pain & wear it as a badge, repeatedly putting it in everyone else's face instead of at least attempting to make lemonade out of lemons. Acknowledge & move on, I say!

How do you handle JWs interacting with your children?
by Nosferatu inthis has been on my mind lately.
i'll probably end up having kids in the near future, and i would not want my mother preaching to my children.. so, i must ask, how do you handle your jw relatives who try to preach to your children?
how do you deal with a "gift" like my book of bs?

We purposely distanced our daughter from Grandma JW. We didn't want her exposed at a young age to ugly pictures & hateful speech. We didn't want her guilted into trying to please Grandma JW. Now, she is a strong, independant young woman with a good BS detector & she is able to critically think & reason. What would have been the point? Once Grandma JW realized the kid couldn't be converted & had little tolerance for the JW doctrine, Grandma would have dropped her anyway.
Believe me the kid was very opinionated from a young age & would have told my mother about herself had she tried to preach that shit. What is really the need tor conditional friends or relatives?

All your recommendations on how to develop a social network....here
by logansrun inone of the most difficult aspects of leaving the jws is finding a new social network to replace the social network you have lost.
finding friends among the jws is not usually a difficult task, but finding them outside the organization can be daunting, especially considering you were told not to develop a social life "in the world.
" discussion boards like this are great...but not enough.

My number one suggestion would be to decrease time on the internet & find out who YOU are & where your intere sts are. Is there some hobby that has always interested you? Vehicle shows, antique shows or animal shows? A breed of dog you've always wanted (dog people are usually friendly) can be a good ice breaker. Do you want to work out? Join a gym, some gyms are real ly friendly & the people there won't usually be drinkers.
Some skill you always wanted to learn? A class you thought of taking? An entire new degree!
Seems to me the internet serves it's purpose, but can become a social retardant after while. An d I would stay out of bars

I'm so sorry Corvin! Keep those girls away from their mother, she is toxic. Be strong, we are all following your story & thinking of you & your family!

I don't know what's going on now, but outing a person's private information or anything about them without their permission is truly vile. Shamus is right on, it WILL happen, & you don't know who you're really talking to on the internet. Keep your boundaries everyone, you'll be a lot safer
