went to see Altar of Mithras today.
by wobble init's funny, but i always felt uncomfortable entering a church when i was a witless, being born in it was programmed into me that this was a place of false religion.. today i went to visit a beautifull church in stone-in-oxney in kent (uk).
this church houses a roman altar that was used in the worship of mithras, before christianity came to england.. in the old days i would have taken this as proof that the church is just an extension of pagandom etc.
etc.. but today i was pleased to see the artifact safely housed,to appreciate the beautifull building within which it sits, and to feel some 2000 years of man trying to get closer to god.. the altar,or "stone" which gives the place its name is unique, and only in the church to keep it safe, not least from the vagaries of english weather!.

Am I a Rebel Without a Cause?
by wobble ini suppose the first answer i will get is,"well something must have caused you",but my point is that being born in to the jw's,all my life,or rather the 58 years i was in,as soon as someone told me what to do i thought "why should i?".
i now find that, apart from rejecting nearly all jw views,i am saying to myself "should i?
" to things that people want me to do.. do you find yourself much more positive since leaving?

Weird Funeral coming up!
by wobble ina friend of mine from my youth has just lost his mother, very quick, diagnosed with the big c and died 5 weeks later,sad.. she was lifelong dub,her son,my friend was df'd nearly 40 years ago, never went back, never will.he asked me if,as an old friend of his mums i would give a eulogy at the crematorium,so that it was more personal than just the dubs doing it,i said i would be honoured.his mum was good to us in our teens.. so it was agreed, bro s, would say a bit, then me,then bro s close.
when the dubs found out i was involved they kicked off"he is inactive" "it dosn't fit in with our theocratic thinking to have him involved".. so,my friend says to the elder who phoned him,"you've got three choices, 1)do it my way,or2)just hold a memorial service at the kh,or3)come to the funeral directors with your cheque book and i'll have nothing to do with it,you can do the lot!
so now they are going for option two,and telling the dubbies not to come to the crem, although my friend has said any are welcome,so i will be doing a non-religious ceremony at the crem.with only her son ,me and a couple of her non-dub cousins present, perhaps a stray dub.. here is the weird bit,the dubs will do a memorial service, with none of her family members present, and without me of course!.

Advice for my DF'd friend
by wobble ini have a dear friend who has recently been df'd,which may not be relevant to the problem, but i told her she now has the time ,and the reason, to examine the religion, and i urged her to use the internet, esp.
freeminds.. her problem is her son,for years,15 or so,he has been on a downward spiral of drug abuse.although never baptised,he was brought up,until his teens,in the wt.he is now thinking that to turn his life around he will get properly involved in the religion.. his mother has said to me that she does not wish to dissuade him,as she fears for his future if he does nothing, conventional counselling, and some less conventional, has failed to help him in the past.she does not want to do an examination of wt at the present time as she feels whatever she discovers she will tell him, and he will go further off the rails ,because he believes it is the truth at the moment, and to take that away from him would leave him nowhere to go.. any helpfull words i can send to her would be appreciated.. many thanks,.

Where will they put them all?
by wobble inback in the seventies we used to happily repeat the info.
that "all the people who have ever lived are about the same as the present world population" or something similar, from the "aid" book?
as an explanation for how the resurrection was a practical idea.. i was reading on-line the other day that new research puts the estimate at 106 billion!.

Coming to the Father
by wobble inthis is for the christians on the site really, but all comments are welcome.. jesus said that "no one comes to the father, except through me", my understanding of those words is that we need to ask jesus to be our saviour,to accept,or adopt, us as sons and daughters, and thus become our eternal father, and thus we become brothers and sisters of christ and hence can have a relationship with almighty god.. i may have missed something so please add or correct me,but if the above is in essence correct no jdub of the " great crowd" can have a relationship with god,as they are not christs brothers.. this leads me on to ask,if you do believe as i do (as above) what can i do about the lords evening meal,i do not feel at present that i can go to any church,i will not go to a k.h,and i am alone in my belief as to family,so have any of you celebrated it alone?
and if so isn't that really weird?.
love.

BBC programme on AMISH and SHUNNING
by wobble inthe bbc in the u.k broadcast a programme on the 18th of feb. on bbc2 called "trouble in amish paradise" it is about an amish family who start to realise that all the rule following is keeping them from faith in jesus, and how the amish bishops react to independant bible study etc.. the parallels of attitude "we are ex-communicating you for ignoring our rules, not for studying the bible" are quite stunning.. the family that is followed during the prog.
are really lovely people,.
and when it comes down to just being christian, even though the family is df'd, the amish come up trumps!
