does anyone remember haysbridge, crystal palace, twickenham, dorking from the 80's/90's.........so many memories there.
the 5p lunch vouchers, the aroma of bacon rolls and hot doughnuts at twickenham, the smell of coffee as 50,000 odd opened their thermos flasks at lunchtime.
walking around endless laps of the perimeter of the stadium at break times, watching the airplanes flying low over twickenham stadium en route to heathrow.. cinema style seats at dorking assembly hall, the baptismal pool built into the stage, flapping my hands in the water and getting told off.
I think I went somewhere else when the streaker incident occurred. I remember others talking about it.
Do I remember Bob Emmett .....? "twas on the Monday morning the gas man came to call" - he sang in his best Bernard Cribbins' voice.

I remember most of these... I must've been rebellious! Avoided Hayesbridge though.... too many boat journeys in one year. (Originate from the I of W)
Bomb scare at Southampton? I remember coming out of the Dell sitting on some grass thinking I should go up the road and watch Hampshire playing cricket. THat is ONE vivid memory for me.
Assemblies on the Isle of Wight... we all thought that would be great, we'll show those 'overners' (name given to Mainlanders) that we can do it, we don't need any foreigner's help! That one act created a whole new breed of Nazi elders! Independent, power hungry egotists living on/within an isolated community. I'm convinced many 'mainland' elders came to escape their troubles and create some new ones on the Island.
Plymouth - we used that as a holiday too - got into trouble over that one. Never stopped me though. Missed the Air Display, must've gone to Norwich - LoL
Twickneham airshow was a great spectacular if you like commercial aircraft..... at least one every 70 seconds.
So glad I worked on the sound .... relieved all the enevitable boredom. Must've worked with cantleave.... bet you were introduced to it by Jim Burgess?

a few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.
i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.

Not in Bet-hell .... know the name though for some reason. Did he do substitute CO duties? My only time in Bet-hell was an indoctrination visit many years ago when I young and naive!
I did a lot of work on the PA systems at Twickenham, Wolverhampton and Plymouth over the years. Got to be aware of quite a few 'names' and how they made a name for themsleves! So glad to be out of it all - though there were some nice people as well. All trapped by a construct - Grrrr!
I know Peter Voisey very well though - I spoke to him only a couple of months ago. He's doing alright for himself. He just laughed whenever I mentioned Mill Hill. And one of the Mansbridge boys (Sean?) - can never remember which one went to Mill Hill.

hi all, i left the wts in the late `80s, i`ve not really given them a thought, until one sleepless night recently i was trawling the `tinterweb, and came across various videos on youtube.
anyway`s, the reasons i left were many and varied, and one day i`ll sit down and relate them, but two things have always stuck in my mind, once i was asked "if someone could convince you that without a doubt "the truth" was wrong, would you believe them?
", to which i answered "of course i would", - that was me marked.
I, too, always questioned this irrational stance on Charities.... the biggest irony being they themselves deem to be one!
Back in 1992, I got involved with a group in our office who went to Romania to take some relieve goods to an orphanage in North West Romania, Satu Mares. There were four of us who made the trip in two vehicles. We made appearances on local radio etc, - doing all sorts of things locally to collect together relief donations. In the end we had collected around 15 tons of aid. I pondered at the time whether I was doing the right thing after I receieved 'counsel' about what I was doing. I countered by saying, "just show me one thing that is wrong about helping those less fortunate than us?" As you can imagine, I was looked down upon but I still did it. Quite an experience in itself!
Anyway, my parents frowned upon my activity (I was 40 at the time with 3 kids) but nothing was going to deter me - I was feeiling good about what I was doing. After my return my mother said the strangest of things. "I'm glad you're back safe. Now, I can at least say to critics in FS when they moan about our lack of charitable works, that they are wrong. My son went to Romania with relief goods." She was proud of it too.
It's as if many JWs have a conscience about this but can't get themselves away from the controlled mindset. Surprise, surprise!
well-known amongst friends and acquaintances for my love of a shiraz, ive been given something new to try for christmas.
its a shiraz viognier, produced by the method of co-fermentation of red shiraz grapes mixed with white viognier grapes.
they are mixed before the wine is made when the addition of white grapes at this stage is thought to preserve the brightness of the red pigments during fermentation, as well as altering the development of some of the flavour compounds.. a typical shiraz viognier wine will contain between two and seven percent of the white variety.
Now, shiraz is tricky for me.
For some reason it reduces me to tears and acts like some sort of truth serum...... for these two reasons and the trouble it got me into I've not touched anything with the name "shiraz" attached to it. That would even include a lemon!
