What Islam Did for Science - New TV AAAAH!
by hamsterbait inthis is a rehash of the series "genius of islam" form the 80's.. what makes me mad is that making and keeping ice in the desert for iced cream, air conditioned bazaars.
new mathematical methods, astronomical observations and new theories on optics is nothing to do with a religion.. all that happened was that clever people used their intelligence to solve problems,.
and they happened to have been raised as muslims.. can you imagine the outcry if we put on a tv show called "genius of christianity" or "what christianity did for science"?.

It's being done by theists. Look at Newton! He was a theist and he discovered gravity! Woow! There must be a God.

What was the most profound spiritual moment of your life?
by cluless inmine was simply the realisation that if a person had faith they wouldnt need a religon.. infact not associating with any religouse association is a bit like being on the oceon in a rowing boat.
but the thing is i dont care if the oceon gets rough.
it doesnt matter not having the answers.

Human Perspective
by hamilcarr ini remember jws asserting that ge 1 was written from a human perspective.
therefore, "the two great luminaries" (ge 1:16), referring to the sun and the moon, are only "great" when seen from the earth, but in fact they are pretty small when compared to stars.
other passages within ge 1, otoh, are written from a divine perspective (no literal days for instance, ps.

Looking at your posts one might be forgiven for thinking you are still interested. Someone who goes to the bother of using the term "post"-anything might not be so "over" it as they insist. Having said that I agree with what you say, I just think it is not so easy to live up to given our histories.
I'd even add: everyone who's conscious of his "post-" identity is not "over" "it", if you see what I mean.
I've been, like you, too JW to just get over it in one year.

However, who said there wasn't other universes before our own that have gone through big bang/big crunch cycles?
Maybe even our universe is eternal. It always strikes as very odd to what extent our perception of the origin of the universe is influenced by mythology.

Did You Know Any "Gay" Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus ini suspect a few witnesses were not "straight" but didn't act on their sexual preferences.. i knew one up and coming bethelite who was approached by the bethel heavies and talked to about his "effeminate mannerisms" and was pretty much told that he could become a more prominent menmber of the bethel family if he "became more masculine looking" and preferably found a bethel sister to marry.
he followed the counsel and was thereafter a regular designated bethel speaker at district conventions.
interestingly, all of his bethel buddies thought the whole scenario was a hoot, knowing that he was really an effeminate man suddenly now looking very hetero..

hamilcarr I just noticed you say on your profile you are an "ex-atheist". How remiss of me, I had no idea. Can you share how this happened?
I think the theist/atheist debate is typically Anglo-Saxon. It excited me eacht time I went to the US or UK, it leaves me cold at home. Both my theist and atheist past are remnants of (in)direct US influence. IMO, Contemporary continental Europe is posttheist. Like most of my peers, my interests have moved from the supranatural to the natural ;-).

Question about how long Jesus 1000 year reign is?
by jwfacts init appears that the watchtower teaches that the 1000 year reign starts after armageddon, which makes sense.
(revelation 20:6) .
.happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of god and of the christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.

The simple truth is of course that the 1,000 year period begins at the same time as Jesus receives kingship..they are simultaneous events, not split by a gap in time.
Leaving aside JW's flawed chronology, Jesus cast Satan to the earth when he seized power (Re 12). In Re 20, Satan is hurled into the abyss after the start of the 1,000 year reign. So, it's possible to claim these are two different events, with a gap in time in between.
