clarification on college

can i have a bit of clarification on this?

i am assuming that going to college (or having kids doing so) does not disqualify an elder/ms.

it is the publicly promoting it that does disqulaify one.

If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time

It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling… True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that soon will pass away? or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order?

Damn! just remembered a few years after this article, I got married had children and all are now working, youngest is planning to go University. Someone made a mistake there was it me or them ?

My favourite is the very first one, " Surely you do not believe in the gods? What's your argument? Where's your proof? ". Placing the need for evidence and proof direct into the theist's lap.

But the same can be asked of the atheist "Prove to me that there is no God."

What is the proof and evidence that God does not exist? Atheists believe that there is no God. How do you prove that something you say doesn't exist, doesn't exist?

Are people who are atheists, atheist because they can't be bothered believing in a God. Or do they genuinely believe there is no God. Which in itself requires a belief.

Someone (can't recall who) once said that he had never come across a "real atheist" every atheist he has met, has always revealed that they have that small doubt in their minds that there just might be a God.

The other thing I find puzzling about those who I have met and say they are atheists. Then go on to talk either about spirits/ghosts, other dimensions, pararell worlds etc. Saying that all these things do exist.

Why the sudden worry by the WT about economy?

Never worried them in times past when we had recessions, and things like this happened.

Or are they now worried that this time it could effect money that may have come to them?

They seem only bothered about the Western world.

The JW in Africa can still walk and swim rivers to get to meetings.

Will they expect the money saved from not going to the book group to be put in the box at KH?

Elder in my old hall is DFed wow!

i ran into an old friend spontaneously over the weekend.

(one of the few jws i actually considered a friend back in the day).

we were briefly catching up and she mentioned an elder in my old hall is now dfed.

Also that the guy went to jail for while would not have been good in the eyes of the Elders.

Theres a chance that if he hadn't gone to jail he may have just been reproved and removed as an Elder.

Then probably reinstated a couple of years later.

Special Assembly day Warning: Gag Alert!!

i had the privilege of going to the special assembly day last saturday.

we had a bethel member giving the main speech.

Always amazes me how the WT can be its own worst enemy.

It comes out with stuff like this.

They must know it will be picked up on by sites like JWD.

Also that there must be JWs who now listen to this rubbish and are now thinking for themselves.

I'm sure that the senior members in Bethel must think its still the 1950's or the like.

Do they know that the world outside their little Bethelworld has changed and the people have as well.

the topic on assembly meals hot food at the dcs past...what was it like?

made me think of the days sat on the terraces at district conventions.

they were originally 4 day affairs but ended up just friday and the weekend (maybe they are just the weekend now?)..

I remember Hillsborough and Maine Road. Sitting on wooden benches or concrete steps.

Then luxury we moved to the MEN arena.

Same boring stuff, but in more comfortable seats. Easier to fall asleep on.

Hi Donald,

How you keeping these days?

I had a feeling this subject would be on here somewhere, but couldn't find it.

Once I heard the book group was to be done away with I wondered what else they could cut down on.

I thought Circuit Overseers could be one thing. One thought put forward is the cost of having CO's, car and flat etc, for them. But their costs are, if I recall, mainly borne by the Circuits they serve, and the congregations they visit. Are they finding Circuits are not contributing enough?

As to replacing them with "mature Elders" who would visit congregations. This has been done when a CO could not visit. We used to get a brother from another congregation visit instead. Also our Field Service overseer would sometimes go to other congregations as a stand-in CO. Or is it another case of brothers not wanting the job and there being a "shortage" of CO's.

I know as you say that if this had been announced when we were JWs then it would have been a shock. The CO's visit twice a year was a "highlight" especially if you had one who was good.

But is anything these days going to surprise them anymore? They seem to changing this and that every couple of months lately. Whether its teachings or organisational.

Still we will have to wait until it is much certain, an official announcement, that they are doing away with the CO. Unless someome knows for certain?

Lastest News! No More Circuit Overseers
Well the decision has been made. The position of Circuit Overseer is being done away with. No more Circuit Overseer! I don't know when this will be announced or take effect, but I will let you know as soon as I hear. So many things are changing it's really hard to keep up with it all. I believe the plan now is to have "mature" elders visiting congregations to make sure that everything is okay and to give their independent opinions as to the status of the congregation they are visiting.
