clarification on college

Can I have a bit of clarification on this? I am assuming that going to college (or having kids doing so) does NOT disqualify an elder/ms. It is the publicly promoting it that does disqulaify one. Is this correct?

I guess so. Information on other threads simply can't be true since it would decimate the number of elders and MS. In my former KH all elders should get disqualified. Taking into account the recent shortage of brothers in charge, this seems incredible.

Not necessarily. If you feel its absolutely necessary to go then you won't be disqualified. However, if you have a good amount of money and decide to go to a 4 year college, then you'd probably be disqualified because its not "absolutely necessary". This can also depend on what type of body of elders you have also and whether they make a big deal about it or not. There's a lot of loopholes here so people can easily get away with it without being removed if they really wanted to...

These loopholes are really concerning since it's SO subjective. If they don't have enough to make a hard rule (and a hard rule is BS in itself) then they should make no rules at all. The WTS should just get out of people's affairs and let them just make a personal decision for once.

More confusion that they created in order to get the hounders to take the strictest course possible. If a hounder sees fit to send a child to college or allow them into college, and it's absolutely necessary in their eyes for survival, they might be spared. However, a change of hounder-hounder (remember, these are going to be more local and can check up more frequently now) or hounder-hounder-hounder could suddenly put that person in danger of losing that assignment.

Ultimately, they want to scare people. If some go too close, and lose "privileges", that will make everyone else take more of a hard line stand. I could see judicial committees set up for children going to college, even if the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger does not explicitly tell them to. The reason: Going against theocraptic arrangement.

This new letter was orally confirmed to me by another MS. I think this new letter would probably only be applied to any new elder or MS who advocated college...I don't know how hardcore the CO would have to be to remove someone whose kid quietly went to college. Also, I believe they would be shooting themselves in the foot to remove all currently college-educated elders and MS's.

Brothers I think I should seriously bring to your attention the article from the "Awake!" May 22nd.1969 p15

If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time

It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling… True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that soon will pass away? or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order?

Damn! just remembered a few years after this article, I got married had children and all are now working, youngest is planning to go University. Someone made a mistake there was it me or them ?

Unless things have changes there is nothing in writing that disqualifies a someone based upon college. It depends upon the congregation and the individual.

I was a MS and elder that also went to college. Many people know I was going, but I did not make a big deal about it. When asked, my answer always was that "my job requried it." That usually stopped the questioning.

That being said, there is no question that the society discourages education. I have seen direct comments made at conventions and in various meeting parts.

They seem to think that "position" is separate from "livelihood." We all need to be in financial positions to live.

Just posted this elsewhere so might as well here as well :

Many years ago, even before this diktat, I recall a brother and his wife practically being threatened with disfellowshipping if they allowed their son to go to university. They left a 2-3 years later when they discovered that one of the Elders who had a go at them, was going to let his daughter go to university.
