Last I heard at a circuit assembly in December from a CO was "Salvation to the new system is ONLY thru the Watchtower organization"!

Being told that "Not all people will die at Armageddon"
by Robert7 inmy wife, who while still (at least partially) in, is an open thinker, agrees with me for the most part, and has made a recent observation... .
she brings up with her friends how it's difficult to believe that all non-jws, over 6 billion will die at armageddon.
plus will die becuase they didn't accept some magazine.

So really how is the JW survival of Armageddon really any different than the Rapture, which is considered by the JWs as crazy?

Looking back, if I were asked the same question, I would have defended it too, that not all would die.
Interesting how we could believe both that all would die, and not all would die. -

She brings up with her friends how it's difficult to believe that all non-JWs, over 6 BILLION will die at Armageddon. Plus will die becuase they didn't accept some magazine. They all get into a defense mode and say "that is not true, not everyone will die".
Who are they trying to fool? You would say this to an ignorant bible study, but we hear this on stage all the time. We hear that the only road to salvation is thru the Watchtower Organization, and that all others will die. They are always very clear that most, if not all will die.
It's just weird, because even the 'spiritual' friends all have the instinctive to deny the belief. Either they personally don't believe it, or they do believe it and just don't want to sound so much like a cult. Could be cognitive dissonance...
Anyone else ever observe this? -

Pro sports is idolatry
by Robert7 inhere's another good one... heard this in yesterday's talk.
idolatry is everywhere in the world today.
soviets have the bear, u.s. has the eagle, etc.

My guess is that it's part of a standard outline, so it will make its rounds. The whole talk wasn't about pro sports, but a good 5 minutes was spent on it. No idea what the talk was titled. I didn't pay attention that much :)

before i woke up the main social activity among many of my witness friends was watching football and playing fantasy football
Watching sports is nothing more than a leisurely activity. The FDS is just trying to control our lives in every possible way, so we have more time in the 'field ministry'. God forbid we ever have fun...

Did Jehovah's Witnesses ever claim they were inspired?
by slimboyfat injehovah's witnesses insist they are not false prophets despite making false predictions because they never claimed inspiration.
but is that true?
well most of the time they seem to have been careful only to claim divine "guidance" or that they are "god's channel".

Here's the ultimate cognitive dissonance...
The Society IS:
- Guided by Holy Spirit
- Directed by Jehovah
- Following Jehovah's will
but given all that, it still is not inspired. -

What's funny is that the talk said that the animals were part of idolatry. But who ever gives any attention to the sports team name/mascot? No one ever gives special attention to the Bull, Ram, Bear, etc... it's just a NAME.
Talk about taking things too far... -

In the talk the speaker commented about how some football fans will go topless in the freezing cold and paint their bodies the team colors. Crazy? Yes. Having fun? Yes. Idolatry? No.
This really has nothing about pro sports, only about specific fans. But this conditions everyone's minds to avoid pro sports enjoyment. -

Idolatry is everywhere in the world today. Soviets have the bear, U.S. has the Eagle, etc. Sports teams have their own idols. Bears, Rams, most of them fierce animals. So being a sports fan is idolatry.
Of course there are the Mighty Ducks (which he made a joke about), Cubs, White Sox, so the theory isn't exactly consistent.
Crazy, eh? God forbid that you enjoy anything outside of the Organization!
