I think it is incredibly valuable for any journalist who is writing a story about the Watchtower Society to be able to consult and quote an organization that is obviously opposed to the methods of the Watchtower Society. We haven't had that until now and that has probably prevented certain news stories from getting the attention they deserve.

"I'm a firm believer that once a decision is voted on, we stick to it."
I think that is one of the things that can make this group effective. I have seen all sorts of great ideas on this board fail to get any traction because of bickering and disagreements about how to proceed. A small group can be far more effective in getting things started. Then others can choose to help if they wish.

There sure has been a lot of debate about the name. I think that is a sign that it is effective.
I think there is a need for a vocal anti Watchtower group as well as a need for other groups that are more moderate. Instead of asking if it's the right name for the group, maybe we should ask if it's the right group for the name. I think we have a winning combination. The group is willing to take a powerful stand, but it's clear that they are against the ruling structure, not the religion or the people.
If someone wants a different name, there isn't anything to stop them from forming a different group. In fact, the name of this group suggests that they are willing to coordinate their efforts with other groups and organizations.

I think the name is good. It is a little bit provocative and may capture the attention of the media in situations where a more subdued name would just be ignored.
I think it may require some explaining, but it is better to have to explain the goals of the association than to have it overlooked.
I definitely the Watchtower Corporation is evil enough to deserve an anti group.
I do think the name could be a liability for some forms of activism, but this association doesn't have to tackle everything. There is plenty of room for other groups to form with slightly different goals that could adopt more friendly names.
Although I also like Stonewall's suggestion of "Association Against Watchtower Abuse".

Ray makes a good point.
"Bibliophile" would be a good term for someone who loves his Bible a little too much.

AAWA could also stand for the Association for the Advancement of Watchtower Apostates.

Are The Governing Body Being Set Up To Take A Fall?
by DT inthe governing body's decision to declare themselves the faithful and discreet slave appears pretty arrogant and presumptuous.
since most of us regard the governing body as arrogant and presumptuous, it's easy to conclude that is the reason that they did this.. what if something else is going on?.
remember when steven unthank was able to get the faithful and discreet slave charged in australia for failing to comply with the working with children act?

I'm just bumping this because of the leak of the Watchtower articles about the new FDS understanding.

Memorial Invites from Door to Door?
by NeonMadman inis this the first year that the jws have been out aggressively handing out memorial invitations from door to door?
i've been out for about 12 years now, but as i recall, congregations used to receive a relatively limited number of memorial invitations, and they were pretty much reserved for bible studies, good rvs, inactive persons, and others who had some sort of connection to the organization.
they were not just randomly handed out from house to house - that was what the "special talk" invitations were for.. it occurs to me that this might be an attempt by the wts to pump up the memorial attendance so as to maintain the illusion of continued growth.

I think it's funny how they will limit you to one paper towl at a convention and then give millions of those invites away to people who don't even want them.

Suppose The Governing Body Hired You As A Consultant
by DT insuppose the governing body hired you as a consultant at a rate of $100,000 a year.
all you are required to do is meet with them four times a year and suggest ways to keep the organization growing at least a little bit.
as soon as there is a year of negative growth, you are out of a job.. assume that you don't care about the damage caused by the watchtower society.
